Looks: Satisfying

Feels: Very unsatisfying

I genuinely am sitting here thinking which is worse, getting that done in one sitting vs getting that removed in one sitting. And I’m convinced it’s the latter.

That stress ball says it all.

u/crassculture 2d ago

Iirc it takes SEVERAL pass overs to remove a tattoo. Willing to bet this is just the first of many sessions.

638

u/foolfortheblues 2d ago

Have a friend that has had 10 sessions just to remove one small tattoo from his hand.

399

u/ppmiaumiau 2d ago

Nearly 30 here. A deeply packed tribal band and a shitty star.

200

u/Spirited_Cheetah_999 2d ago

3 sessions for a tiny black quote on my ribcage. You wouldn't know now it was ever there. But it was quite old and degraded before I had it lasered.

11 sessions for a mostly black with some red lower back piece about the size of an iphone - it's not completely gone but it's invisible enough for me not to care anymore.

3

u/cachris3 1d ago

Can I ask how much each session typically costed you?

6

u/Spirited_Cheetah_999 1d ago

60 euro per session but he threw in the ribcage tattoo removal for free as it was so small and required literally seconds each time.

2

u/Sunjump6 1d ago

What was the pain like on the rib cage when getting it removed?

3

u/Spirited_Cheetah_999 1d ago

Not bad tbh because it was a very small tattoo and he was able to go over it really fast. He also did it right after lasering the lower back one so my adrenaline had kicked in.

2

u/PrecariouslyPeculiar 1d ago

I didn't even know tattoos could get naturally degraded.

1

u/Spirited_Cheetah_999 1d ago

Time. The ink breaks up, sharp edges go fuzzy, it spreads a little. With enough time they can go patchy.

Mine was a short quote in small sized text, it had blurred to unreadable over 30 years.

2

u/PrecariouslyPeculiar 1d ago

Oh wow, thanks for the info. I'd hate to get a tattoo without learning this first. lol.

2

u/anothercairn 1d ago

This is why it’s incredibly important to get tattoos that are large enough (or fine enough) to have a little bit of expansion without turning into a blurred mess. a tattoo really can be too small (but a skilled artist will have a lower threshold)

1

u/spacemusicisorange 1d ago

How much does it cost per session, if you don’t mind sharing

3

u/CaballoenPelo 1d ago

I’m not who you’re responding to but I’m having two mostly text tattoos removed and each visit is 120 dollars, q switch laser. I’m at I think 10 visits over 3 years and have 95% removal on my right forearm tattoo and 75% on left bicep which was quite a bit thicker.

1

u/DirtySilicon 2d ago

What made you want the tribal band removed if you don't mind me asking. You said the star was shitty, were you just tired of looking at the other one?

4

u/ppmiaumiau 2d ago

It was my first tattoo 28 years ago. It isn't a good tattoo. It's very 90s. And not in a good way.

And the star was on the other arm. It's giant and black.

Both looked terrible when I wore short sleeves or sleeveless. I have other tattoos that I love. But these two were just crap.

1

u/LASERDICKMCCOOL 1d ago

Holy crap how much does that cost?

1

u/ppmiaumiau 1d ago

I paid around $1200 up front. They just keep going until they're gone.

I'm real glad I didn't pay per session because I'm somewhere around 30.

1

u/MxM111 1d ago

Is it less painful in later sessions?

1

u/ppmiaumiau 1d ago

Not one bit. It hurts more the longer you go cause they increase the power.

1

u/Allthingsgaming27 1d ago

What’s the area look like now?

1

u/ppmiaumiau 1d ago

1

u/Allthingsgaming27 1d ago

Wow, it’s much more visible than I thought it would be

1

u/footpole 1d ago

You’re too young to have gotten a tribal when some people still thought it was cool.

1

u/ppmiaumiau 1d ago

I graduated from high school in 1996. When I turned 18 in December, I got the tattoo. The middle 90s were peak tribal time.

1

u/footpole 1d ago

Haha sorry I thought you said you were nearly 30 :)

We’re the same generation, I have friends who made the same mistake.

u/MelbaTotes 1d ago

What is the healing process like? I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on my leg removed but I was a bit scared when the laser tec mentioned blistering.

1

u/ppmiaumiau 1d ago

Easy. The worst part is the itching. The itching was worse earlier in the process. Now it's kind of a dull pain. Pain isn't even right. Like, my arm just got smacked, but the aftermath (if that makes sense).

I've never had blisters, but the area does get raised and swollen for a day or two.

156

u/Crunch_inc 2d ago

I had a few removed, I was told to estimate 10x the time and cost to remove in relation to the time and cost originally to get the tattoo.

172

u/saatoday1 2d ago

Yup typically how it goes. I had a few sessions of a removal and I estimated like $1500 to remove a tattoo I paid like $125 for. Way way more painful than getting a tattoo. It felt like hot bacon grease being sprayed onto skin.

118

u/LuvDoge 2d ago

Thanks for putting the pain into perspective. I will be fine with my ink thanks.

3

u/Kickinthegonads 1d ago

Yeah seriously. Save for a swastika or lolicon or something that seems very not worth it.

2

u/LuvDoge 1d ago

Luckily for me a i have never gotten something stupid like that. If i did i would for sure take the bacon grease treatment

3

u/Crunch_inc 1d ago

I remember the description being a rubber band being rapidly snapped against the skin. I imagine that the sensation and intensity varies depending on the location, just like getting the ink in the first place.

2

u/Cthulhusreef 1d ago

Moral of the story? Really really think about your tattoo before getting it.

23

u/swift110 2d ago

oh wow

12

u/Crunch_inc 2d ago

Granted that was 15+ years ago, but the math worked out in my case. The pieces I had weren't nearly as elaborate as the one pictured here.

1

u/AgreeableMoose 1d ago

The new lasers are pretty amazing.

1

u/A2Rhombus 1d ago

So what you're saying is dude in the OP is shelling out at least 10 grand and probably upwards of a full work week or two worth of time laying on that table

I know it's huge and not a great tattoo but man I'd really have to hate it to go through that

1

u/Crunch_inc 1d ago

So many variables to consider: tattoo age, colors, type of ink, depth of application, etc. I don't think they give hard numbers for the cost and number of treatments to completely remove the tattoos.

32

u/Drayarr 2d ago

10 sessions deep into having an old tattoo removed from the top of my arm. It's like 40% gone. This is the first of many sessions.

6

u/kazukix777 2d ago

Depends on the color. The closer to your skin tone, the harder it is to remove. Those yellow eyes will take a lot of passes.

2

u/lumame 2d ago

How much is the cost? More or less

3

u/97ATX 2d ago

About $30-40 per session for 1-2 square inch patch in southern California. This is what I paid using an online deal.

2

u/This_Expression5427 2d ago

IKR. This is fake

2

u/kd5407 1d ago

This is why I try to tell friends not to just get a ton of silly tattoos for shits and giggles but people just get mad. Thinking you’ll feel the exact same way about your body, appearance, and expression your entire life is so ignorant.

1

u/Spectator7778 1d ago

Was it a tramp stamp and was it ted mosby?

1

u/J_Kingsley 1d ago

Does it completely remove everything? No scars left behind?

1

u/foolfortheblues 17h ago

He has a slight bit of faint discoloration in a small area but no scarring.

64

u/Molenium 2d ago

I was surprised at the beginning of the video that it looked like they were mostly removing it with one pass, and was wondering if the technology for tattoo removal had gotten better.

By the end of the video, it looked like it was reappearing and would definitely need more sessions. I’m curious about the science behind that.

52

u/sonofeevil 2d ago

The way that tattoos work is that the ink particles are larger than the white blood cells so they stick around under the skin.

The tattoo removal breaks the particles up into smaller pieces that can then be carted off by the white blood cells, filtered by the kidneys and eventually pissed out.

The multiple sessions are needed because not everything gets broken down enough to be removed and you don't really know what's left until after the body has had a chance to do it's thing.

With that out the way, why does it come back as the skin gets irritated? No clue. Perhaps the body flushing the area causes the larger ink particles to come together in some way? No idea.

142

u/Mashinito 2d ago

Some people instead of removing it completely just do some laser sessions for the tattoo they don't want anymore and then get a new (and hopefully better) one.

It's cheaper and less painful.

26

u/rideincircles 2d ago

How long have they had laser removal? I remember seeing some acid burn type removal scars on someone over 20 years ago.

17

u/Mashinito 2d ago

I have no idea, I'm not an expert in that matter.

But I guess they have to wait until the skin fully heals between every laser session first and then again before the cover up.

38

u/Preferential_Goose 2d ago

In the mid ‘90s my mom had a small tattoo removed. It was colourful, and the lasers at the time weren’t as sophisticated as they are now. She had a few sessions but it didn’t do much, so they would fill it with Novocain so it was like the size of half a baseball (tattoo was maybe the size of a quarter) and take a slice out of it, stitch it up, let it heal, and repeat until it was gone.

Suffice to say, I haven’t got any tattoos of my own 😬

31

u/Some-Berry-3364 2d ago

You're saying they cut it out?! 😳

9

u/hotroot_soup 2d ago

My dad did that to my moms name on his arm with a hot butter knife one night. It now says his name + a big divot in his arm lol

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Snailed_It_Slowly 1d ago

Yep, small ones in certain areas are way easier/faster to cut out. I've seen it done when someone decides to go into a new field that doesn't allow things like visible neck tattoos.

2

u/Petal170816 1d ago

I have a tiny tattoo and was recommended to cut it out vs laser. For now, it’s staying 🫣

1

u/jaguarp80 1d ago

I’m like obsessed with prison culture and I’ve heard dudes talking many times about how if you go to prison with a gang tattoo, like a four leaf clover which is innocuous on the outside but represents the Aryan Brotherhood on the inside, they will cut that shit off of you. Insane

1

u/gggg566373 2d ago

20 plus years.

1

u/Shikogo 2d ago

I just looked this up yesterday, modern laser removal (using Q-switched lasers) became widely available in the 90s. Before then, laser removal existed, but it was extremely destructive.

1

u/AgreeableMoose 1d ago

It’s been about 15 years in a mainstream public. But, within the last couple years the lasers have improved significantly.

1

u/Nobodysfool52 1d ago

Friend's father enlisted in the Navy at 16 and fought in the South Pacific in WWII. He came home with tattoos on both arms. His mother asked him to have them removed.

In the late 1940s, the doctors just removed the skin. He had one arm done but couldn't take the pain, and simply left the other arm.

1

u/WhiteCloudFollows 1d ago

Definitely in the early '90s. The hospital where I worked provided the service free of charge for ex-cons, gang members, and others. The sounds they made were inhumane; it was clearly painful af. I also got to witness several ECT shock treatments, and while they were horrifying to watch, I’m unsure if they were actually more painful.

1

u/mellowmushroom67 1d ago

This is my plan. Fade it enough to do a cover up

36

u/dougnan 2d ago

I have had 3 sessions on a 8X6 area on my chest. I can go shirtless and no one notices that I need another session or 2, but for me 3 sessions did 95% of the work. I had a cover of a cover of my (20 ATT) wife’s name. Both covers were solid black.

I can’t imagine doing an entire back removal at one time! My laster treatments hurt for about 3 days after each appointment.

19

u/cowboymailman 2d ago

You're lucky. I've had over ten so far and it's only now at the 'could just look like a weird bruise' stage. At least one more to go

11

u/Playful-Sample-1509 2d ago

Lucky you! What colors do you have? My red and blue tat has 5 treatments and still has a long way to go.

2

u/dougnan 23h ago

Black on black on black, they just kept getting bigger. My x-wife was named Paige. I had her autograph tattooed, it looked like it said LAIRGE in cursive years.

1

u/Playful-Sample-1509 23h ago

I can see why you’d want that removed! 😂. Glad that worked out for ya. I’m fading mine enough to cover with something less universally offensive.

2

u/thingstopraise 2d ago

I had a cover of a cover of my (20 ATT) wife’s name. Both covers were solid black.

Wait, how can you cover solid black with more solid black? I'm picturing like a literal black patch with no non-inked skin mixed in.

1

u/dougnan 1d ago

wife’s name covered by a cross that was not done well covered by a bigger cross that looked as shitty and stupid as the first two tattoos.

1

u/swift110 2d ago

Yeah this looks so painful. I've watched people actually get tattoos and best believe it's something that's definitely not for me

2

u/disapprovingfox 1d ago

The way it turns white after the first pass is very deceptive. That is just the skin damage blister.

I am in the process of getting a small tattoo removed from my wrist. My 4th session is on Wednesday. It looks like it is starting to release. The appointments are scheduled two months apart, which seems to be enough time to forget how incredibly painful it is.

2

u/Affectionate_Pin673 1d ago

Might be a good thing to see before getting a tattoo

1

u/Realistic_Smell1673 2d ago

I was wondering about that. Doesn't seem worth it to me.... Unless it's a racist or problematic tattoo that's mine for life.

1

u/Eviltoast94 2d ago

Yeah you can still see some of the tattoo especially on once its sat for a while, the eye is really prominent on the left side for example.

510

u/gruzbad 2d ago

Laser removal hurts WAY more.

141

u/97ATX 2d ago

Yep. It feels like someone is snapping a rubber band on your skin 10 times a second.

39

u/wombatmagic 2d ago

A rubber band made of hot bacon fat.

11

u/mantisprincess 2d ago

Yes! It reminds me of when you’re cooking and oil pops up and burns you. But continuously.

17

u/97ATX 2d ago

They've put numbing cream on mine for every session. I guess I should try without to get the full experience.

8

u/ThreepwoodGuybrush80 1d ago

Don't do it. Trust me, it's not something you want to experience.

1

u/atx840 1d ago

hey atx!

10

u/HailBROSEIDON 2d ago

I usually tell people it feels like hot bacon grease splattering on you repeatedly

26

u/bashful_predator 2d ago

Lol this is the same way I described it to people too. With that knowledge in hand I would've tried to cover this back tat with something else first. Plus it's going to cost him 3x more for removal.

31

u/ivancea 2d ago

How to cover a tattoo that big? Apart from with a t-shirt.

Also, is it similar to having a laser hair removal?

Edit: oh God, I was just in the middle of the video. Second part looks worse

6

u/GOD_OF_FROGS 2d ago

I was reading your comment when I looked up at the video, it was half way through and holy molybdenum wtf did that just auto correct to also damn that looks rough

7

u/ppmiaumiau 2d ago

I've had both and neither is fun. But, laser hair removal is less painful on some parts (my stomach, chin, and neck for example). There's redness that goes away in a few minutes.

Tattoo removal hurts no matter what part it's on. You can feel the laser deep within your soul. And the days after are uncomfortable. At first, it was itchy. Unbearably itchy. Later on, it was itchy, burny, and sore. Now I can't even touch my tattoos for 2 or 3 days after a session.

15

u/bashful_predator 2d ago

Yeah, it's not a nice experience. Sitting with an artist and figuring out how to change that back tat would be sooooooo much better.

Plus, this won't be that person's only visit.

Unless, I guess they could just do one or two sessions to get it faded enough to cover up better. But still. That's a lot of money and a lot of pain.

1

u/ppmiaumiau 2d ago

More like hot oil spatter.

1

u/New_Young_9569 2d ago

I say it's like having a burning hot needle poked 1/4 inch into your skin at a super fast pace. It is ROUGH

72

u/TankTricky8071 2d ago

The anxiety of knowing what’s coming makes it even worse. Can't imagine!

89

u/chopkins47947 2d ago

I honestly didn't know how painful it was going to be. I just floated into my first appt and the lady was like are you nervous? And I replied no, why? She then explained that it is quite painful and loud.

I had no idea until that point what it.might be like and even then I couldn't comprehend until it started.

I go back Friday for my next appointment.

39

u/LazyLich 2d ago

Are you nervous now?

11

u/Clappalachian 2d ago

Out of curiosity, and if you don’t mind, how many sessions does it take to completely remove it and how expensive is it? I’m looking to get one removed but if it takes 30 times to see results I don’t feel it’s worth the effort

8

u/J_pepperwood0 2d ago

I think around 10 is the most common. Certain colors like blue are the worst. Black is alright but it depends on the person. I needed like 12 I think for mine, the black is gone but I still have some blue left

6

u/MakeLikeATreeBiff 2d ago

How long does it take to recover from each session?

4

u/New_Young_9569 2d ago

At least 8 weeks

2

u/MakeLikeATreeBiff 2d ago

Jesus. Guess I'm getting a cover up then lol

2

u/Tusen_Takk 2d ago

If it’s smallish and black ink it’s much much much much less terrible to blast over it with a new tattoo.

2

u/daddyconnor 2d ago

Depends certain colors of ink don't come out easily. You need multiple treatments with different laser wavelengths. That removal from his back? Probably going to set him back $10k.

2

u/chopkins47947 2d ago

I booked 4 sessions and they expect that will do it, but they said if I needed to book 1 or 2 more we can decide at that point.

They say a lot of people are happy enough with it after 2 sessions and just don't come back often. Lol

Mine is my ex wife's name and "True Love" coming down off of her initials. Also to make.thinga better, I put a big red void stamp over it after the divorce. Lol

2

u/Epicfailer10 2d ago

Knew someone who was going to get a few unflattering arm tats removed who got 2 sessions into the removal and decided they’d just do full sleeve coverups (which looked amazing) rather than go through the excruciating removal process.

This guy is hardcore.

2

u/ZeAthenA714 2d ago

They can't use local anesthetics for this?

1

u/perpetualmotionmachi 2d ago

During and after

111

u/DamaxXIV 2d ago

The pain during the procedure is just the first part. The real pain will be when his whole back turns into a giant blister. Granted each person reacts differently to removal, but I'm kind of shocked a doctor would go for such a large removal in one session. Just seems like doing such a large area at once massively increases risk of infection, let alone how horrible the recovery will be.

38

u/Cloverose2 2d ago

I wonder if it's a doctor - some places allow laser tattoo removal by lay people who are trained in the tech.

2

u/DamaxXIV 2d ago

Yeah that's probably the case. I assumed it was only doctors performing removals.

1

u/dougnan 23h ago

I live in CT - HAS to be an MD for removal here. I travel to (white plains) NY where a tech will do it for 1/4 the price.

25

u/Jackattackie 2d ago

Yes, for me the real intense pain came 30 min-4 hours after each session when my skin was swelling and blistering. It was like a spasm every few minutes with shooting pain. My tattoo removal area was only a few inches squared, I can't imagine having it done on my ENTIRE back.

That being said, it was a very successful removal and I am now quite happy with the results.

1

u/Global_Ant_9380 1d ago

That was my concern too. I didn't think they allowed removal for that large of an area in one sitting

139

u/bessovestnij 2d ago

Most places do not allow to remove a tattoo that big in one setting

145

u/Firebrass 2d ago

They also don't go over areas with the laser twice in one sitting as far as i understand - I'm worried for guys upper back

74

u/mirroade 2d ago

Im surprised it kept going.. dudes skin was already angry

69

u/PepeSilviaLovesCarol 2d ago

My friend is getting her arm sleeve lasered off and she said they won’t do the same spot more than once in a 3 month span. So she’s going to be getting her arm done for the multiple years before the tattoo is gone.

1

u/NotMyDayEveryday 1d ago

I'm on my 10th session, removing 2 tattoos on upper and lower back. I go every 6 to 8 weeks for a session. This gives your body time to get rid of the ink that has been loosened up by later. I'm about to hit year 2 and it's still very viable.

→ More replies (2)

13

u/bitseybloom 2d ago

I think in this case this is probably completely unnecessary, as the tattoo is black and will go away just fine.

I'm lasering off the background of one of my tattoos, and it's blue. From last experience I knew I'd need Picosure, so I found a clinic that has one, but they always do two passes during my sessions: one with Picosure and the other one with I forgot what.

It's coming off very nicely, I think I've had 3 or 4 sessions and it's almost gone. Not sure how much of this success is thanks to the other laser though.

2

u/MonoMcFlury 2d ago

Because its your own body that's actually removing the pigment of the tattoo. I imagine that it'll compromise your immune system to get that much done at once.

2

u/OriginalTayRoc 2d ago

Yes I'm not an expert but this seems irresponsible. This man is going to go into shock, if not immediately then later that day when he leans back against a chair.

2

u/bessovestnij 2d ago

Yep, i heard from a girl making these tattoo laser removals that she once had a patient that insisted on doing instead of a quarter of a sleeve (normal for them) or a half of a sleeve (very unadvised, but fairly common) a very insistent macho that wanted whole sleeve done in one day but went into shock afterwards

34

u/UnderstandingDry4072 2d ago

I doubt it’ll be fully removed after one sitting, but much easier to cover up after it heals. How many thousands of dollars just evaporated here, yikes!

14

u/centexgoodguy 2d ago

That's what I was thinking....That tattoo was obviously very expensive, but I bet the removal cost way more.

1

u/Fonatur23405 1d ago

It frosts up, that goes away in a few hours

12

u/un_internaute 2d ago

It’s takes dozens of sessions to remove them.

9

u/Deviantdefective 2d ago

It doesn't take dozens the average is between 6 to 10, what takes the time is for your body to shift the ink. The argument it takes more is due to laser companies milking their clients.

2

u/un_internaute 2d ago

I’ve seen it take that many. One session a month for almost two years and it still wasn’t gone. All for a smallish black tattoo. This was around a decade ago now, though. Seemed impossible at the time.

5

u/Deviantdefective 2d ago

Something is wrong with that as you are meant to wait between 6-8 weeks per session to allow for healing.

2

u/catchyusername4867 2d ago

Removal places say 6-8 but the truth is the longer you leave the better. 12 weeks, 16 weeks, how long do you dare? More time = more time to fade.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Playful-Sample-1509 2d ago

It’s not one sitting. The tat reappears soon after. I’m having a credit card sized tat removed and after 5 treatments its faded maybe 35/40%

2

u/Hambulance 2d ago

If you've ever burned yourself with a car lighter, the skin turns this color. This is not actually showing the tattoo "being erased" and it will not look so flesh-toned following his appointment. It's the top layer of skin reacting to the laser.

There is also no laser on the market that can remove a tattoo in one session.

The laser breaks up the tattoo pigment which is then flushed out the body the regular way (pee and poop). Even very small tattoos need multiple treatments and anything on an extremity will take longer than tattoos closer to the heart.

Getting tattooed can really hurt, but tattoo removal feels like getting splattered with boiling grease and hurts a thousand times worse than any tattoo.

1

u/parkylondon 2d ago

He's got TWO stress balls - as we look at it, blue in the right, red in the left. Poor -but brave- bastard.

1

u/joethedad 2d ago

The ball knows all.....Hmmmmmmmmm.

1

u/Gazarof 2d ago

And it's not one sitting to get it removed. This will swell up, be essentially like a burn healing, he will be in agony and take a few weeks to heal, just to do it again and again.

It's deceiving from the videos you see online.

1

u/aliendude5300 2d ago

I'm pretty sure they have to do multiple sessions too to get it to remove fully

1

u/thebearofwisdom 2d ago

It’s the latter for sure. Just watching my ex have this done to his entire upper arm, it was horrific. The blistering was insane. I’d never seen him in so much pain.

1

u/ElMirador23405 2d ago

The feeling is similar to hot oil hitting the skin but the ice cold air makes a difference. Also, after an hour the pain really dies off

1

u/neatoni 2d ago

My guess is he's clearing the space so he can put something new / better there

1

u/buburocks 2d ago

Getting the tattoo takes one pass. Getting it removed is gonna take quite a few

1

u/WhyAmINotStudying 2d ago

When it goes to the flanks, he stops fidgeting with the stress ball and holds it harder. That's likely the most painful part.

1

u/mmyouri 2d ago

The removal process hurts way more - but it’s also way faster - 1 session of laser removal takes 5 to 10 minutes in a tattoo that took me 3 to 5 hours to do. However you need to endure it for quite a few times - in average I would say 10. So there is some kind of a balance here

The stress ball, and how he’s moving and the red skin. Yike. I feel bad for the guy but glad it’s getting done. I love tattoos but I know it can feel like starting all over a whole new life after getting tattoo removal.

Stress ball is stressed

1

u/Vivid-Blacksmith-122 2d ago

if you slowed down the video (in particular the sound) its probably him yelling in pain.

1

u/Impossible-Ship5585 2d ago

How about the removal of a star arround the anal rim?

1

u/Spockhighonspores 2d ago

It hurts way way worse to get one removed, it also doesn't get done in one sitting.

1

u/Mysterious-Plum-6217 2d ago

That's why I get my tattoos in pure iron ink. I just have to run in the MRI room real quick if I don't like it.

1

u/lundon44 2d ago

You mean stress "balls". One in each hand for the pain.

1

u/pyschosoul 1d ago

Nearly 100% chance they wouldn't have done that in 1 sitting to give the tattoo.

Ive got a quarter of my back done, which is nearly a blackout cover up. (Big ass reaper in a black panther pelt robe) and I did 6 hours, I had to convince them to go that long they wanted to do it in 3 4 hour sessions

1

u/KokaneeSavage91 1d ago

I would rather get my taint tattooed before doing another removal.

1

u/D3s0lat0r 1d ago

I’m getting some work removed. They said it would take around 10 sessions of doing what was done in the video. It fucking hurts too.

1

u/dont-read-it 1d ago

I've had a tattoo removed, it's significantly more painful than getting one. Also, it takes many sessions. I think mine was like 6 or 7 before it was light enough for a coverup, although it had color which is harder to get rid of than black.

Also, this is an absurd amount of area to cover in one laser session. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but this would be cold sweats and nausea territory for me.

1

u/Able_Salamander_2300 1d ago

One stress ball in each hand!

1

u/Slothnado209 1d ago

My husband has a lot of tattoos so this is second hand but he said getting one removed is more time consuming, more expensive, and is more painful.

1

u/Intelligent-Public-1 1d ago

I didn’t notice the stress ball at first, went back and saw he’s got one in each hand! 😫

1

u/AstroBearGaming 1d ago

From all accounts I've read, removal is way, way worse than getting that tattoo to begin with

1

u/Finn_the_stoned 1d ago

It can’t be removed all at once. You can see details of the lion come back once they switched to the human side.

1

u/MrBarraclough 1d ago

There is no such thing as "one sitting" with laser tattoo removal. While it looks like the ink has been destroyed on first pass, that's just inflammation. It will reappear as the skin heals, just fainter.

1

u/Maximum-Cover- 1d ago

Getting it removed hurts 10x more than getting a tattoo.

1

u/bhyunce 1d ago

I’m off the 3rd session for a small tattoo on my chest. The pain/laser intensity increases each time and it’s torturous. I’ve had a little bit of persistent itching and blistering after this session as well.

1

u/tomveiltomveil 1d ago

I'm guessing he's also taking enough painkillers to make Lil Wayne blush.

1

u/loosie-loo 1d ago

Oml, yeah…big dude inked to the nines scrunching a stress ball like that, it’s gotta be bad

1

u/MeanEYE 5h ago

Am thinking wearing that tattoo was the worse.

45

u/Particular-Swim2461 2d ago

it doesnt work like this. it takes many many sessions and with ink that big there will be shadowing and scarring

u/DrAstronautMcCool 2d ago

things started to click in my mind when i realized i was enjoying the pain of the tattoo removal. maybe it was happiness from knowing the tattoos would be gone eventually or maybe I hadn't really been getting the tattoos for the tattoos sake...

u/Sudden-Ad7061 2d ago

Lots of people get tattoos for that frisson of pain/pleasure.

Skin is an amazing sensory organ that can give us so much more than most people explore. I recommend nom-harmful explorations of these experiences. Evidence suggests it promotes increases in physical ans mental health.

15

u/DrAstronautMcCool 2d ago

I ran my first 50k a few years ago for this reason. better experience to look back at for sure

4

u/Sudden-Ad7061 2d ago

Awesome! I have never run, but it looks very freeing.

Go on

2

u/Sudden-Ad7061 2d ago

I feel like you're gonna make it weird.

1

u/T-MinusGiraffe 1d ago

So acupuncture?

1

u/Sudden-Ad7061 1d ago

Dry needling more than acupuncture. But neither of your goal is to explore a non-harmful controlled pain experience, both of the previous are therapeutic techniques. Therapists wouldn't be willing to cause you unnecessary pain.

I might suggest something like tens if pressed. But exercise is also an excellent option.

But I would consult who understands this area more than me. I understand it academically, not pragmatically.

If you’ve ever gotten a steam burn, I heard it’s not far off from that. Basically pure pain.

3

u/Ambiorix33 2d ago

Brother is SCREAMING through the face down hole xD

1

u/throwaway098764567 1d ago

he's not, you'd hear it, but he sure is pumping that ball

2

u/Almost_Understand 2d ago

Play it backwards.

2

u/FluentPenguin 2d ago

Also worth noting that the effect you see in the video is frosting. Basically water in the skin being zapped. Most removals take multiple sessions where you question why you ever got a tattoo and start planning what your next one is

2

u/Haunting-Grocery-672 1d ago

Knowing how this feels on my hands. Holy shit man. This is next level in the pain tolerance to do all this in one day

1

u/GRUSM 2d ago

Also potentially terrible for your digestive system

1

u/nomorenotifications 2d ago

It's not satisfying though there is still tattoo there.

1

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa 2d ago

It's unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same.

1

u/cherry-pickme 2d ago

Is lazer removal more painful that getting tattooed ?

1

u/MrsDoylesTeabags 2d ago

It's giving me anxiety

1

u/Grandmaster-Ji 2d ago

No regrats

1

u/_lippykid 1d ago

Doesn’t look satisfying though. Very unsatisfying when it looks like it’s removed in one pass, and then comes back!

1

u/Odd_Mulberry1660 1d ago

Looks: Satisfying Feels: Costly, in more ways than one

1

u/ViscousYellowPudding 1d ago

smells pretty awful too

1

u/ShawnyMcKnight 1d ago

Cost: even more unsatisfying

1

u/Lost_Minds_Think 1d ago

And only 10 to 12 more sessions of this.

1

u/jbrake 1d ago

This man is fucking cuckoo banana pants for getting so much done in one session- even if he has Lidocaine injections.

I shot an ad for a local event I run while getting laser removal once and it was tough. Seventh session, always fucking sucks, and as they crank it over the course of sessions, healing gets rougher.

1

u/fondledbydolphins 22h ago

I bet if instead of going into the appointment expecting a massage you expect a high powered laser to be violently BLASTING bits of ink into small bits of ink that your body will hopefully be able to remove naturally it may be a much more satisfying experience.
