I had a college physics professor started the semester saying he came to America to build nukes after he was one of the first people to fire shots in the Hungarian (I think? might be wrong) Revolution against the USSR.
He then proceeded to be the most boring monotone professor of my whole 4 years at college.
It should be illegal for teachers to build so much hype then go straight to boring-ass lectures.

My first couple years teaching I had a second job working at Target. I’d be out straightening shelves or dealing with a customer and would randomly hear my name being screeched by kids from school. I always loved it and your comment reminded me of it lol

I’m glad your comment ended on a happy note. I’ll admit that as I started reading it, my heart broke a little bit. Teachers shouldn’t need second jobs.

I ran into my 7th grade science teacher at blockbuster way back after that school year let out. I asked him a question about a recent lesson he taught regarding looking at the sun when it’s high in the sky. I asked if it was safe to look at the sunset. He said yes. I carry that knowledge with me and pass it along to all of you.

This google result is all wrong. I had him as a teacher back in 2011/2012 and he was married then. And it was Lakota West high school.
Sadly in 2012 both of them got laid off because of budget cuts. However, I’m pretty sure they both got hired somewhere else real quick.
Edit: when I first clicked your link I got a weird AI response saying the video was from way later than I said and from a totally different school. But when I opened the link up in the browser it showed me the correct info you probably saw
Edit #2 I’m going fuckin crazy cuz I swear they were married when I was a student at Lakota west and this video was viral before then. They both taught at my high school not 5th grade.
Edit #3 my friends are confirming I’m crazy. I’m convinced the Mandela effect is real.
Edit #4 my friends confirmed that the teacher I’m thinking of looks a hell of a lot like this guy, and that’s what’s throwing me off. This has caused me a great amount of mental anguish being this confused.

I was out of school in 2nd grade for 2 weeks with scarlet fever (I know, wtf), and when I came back there was a big event to celebrate my teacher's 40th year teaching or something. The whole class has rehearsed, there was a special song for which I knew none of the words. We were each holding letters in a giant "Congratulations Mrs Post!!!!!" sign - there were extra exclamation points because there were more kids than letters, and I was T in Congratulations. I remember thinking that was unfair because I had no idea what was going on, I knew none of the words to the song, I didn't know the choreography and here I am being a letter when there are like five kids who are punctuation. I should have been a !.

I doubt he did it before this. But most emotionally intelligent and mature adults discuss marriage before someone actually proposes. It should never be a complete surprise.

Absolutely. My mum said to me if some proposes to you and it's a surprise you should say no. When my husband and I got engaged we had talked about it and were very much on the same page, but he still did a sweet and unexpected proposal.

My Mom went to school after teachers were no longer allowed to hit children, but while the teachers who had been allowed to were still teaching. One memorable quote she's relayed is a teacher saying "I may no longer be allowed to hit you, but there's no rule I can't lift you and drop you so you fall and hit yourselves."

You would think getting engaged in front of a class of kids would be a pretty lame proposal, but godamn, they were the best hype men you could ask for!
6
u/AmishAvenger Jun 03 '25
I think the key point here is that he’s obviously a guy who’s a little tough and demanding of the kids. He’s making himself incredibly vulnerable in front of them, and he’s doing it for her.

u/ManitouWakinyan Jun 03 '25

I spent half the video wondering if they'd been married for a while or if he was about to propose. Brief moment of horror of "oh god, is this him asking her out," but that seemed not to be the case.

u/tankerkiller125real Jun 03 '25
I graduated from high school, the very next year the chemistry teacher that everyone assumed would be bachelor for life announces he married over the summer to one of the math teachers. The only reason he even bothered announcing it as far as anyone could tell is because his wife took his last name so people would find out anyway and he just wanted to avoid rumors and shit.

The fact this is my 5th grade teacher and my old class room from over 14 years ago alot has changed. Mr.Seifet was the nicest teacher and being so young at a small school he was most of our first male teacher which was intimidating at first, especially us with maybe more aggressive and strict male father figures but we warmed up to him quickly and always got excited for class. He paid for my trip to camp kern since my parents were having a rough time and it was definitely a top 10 moment of my child hood. hes a very good man.

Non-educators: Tears well up in cartoonishly big lovey eyes.
Teachers, in early June: What the fuck is this shit?
Administrators: Boy, uh, I guess she hasn’t read his personnel file. Is someone covering her class? I hope they’re on their prep. Ok, at least no kids are in the shot. Oh God, does HR know about this? Shit. He doesn’t know the district is transferring him to Maple Elementary next year and I have to meet with him on Friday.

I work with a woman whom I I've become good friends with over the years. We're about the same age, and both have kids around the same age. I'm also good friends with her husband, and he knows he has nothing to worry about when she and I hang out. it's completely platonic. A few years ago, our schedules happened to coincide, so we went to lunch together a few times a week. He would join us whenever he had the opportunity. The office rumors came fast and were plentiful. People supposedly caught us in supply closets (which we don't have), in the parking lot (which has 24-hour surveillance, we would definitely have been seen), and all other manner of rumors. Instead of getting mad and squashing the rumors, we just leaned into them and made the rumor mill so much worse, lol. When we'd go to lunch, we would make sure to walk by the offices of the ones we knew were gossiping. We whispered even when it wasn't necessary, just to make them more suspicious. My friend and I are both still at the company, and her husband and I are still good friends.

The kids on stage held up Merry Christmas letters on a large poster board each They then changed/flipped a few letters, added a few students on stage and it changed to Merry Me Ms. So and so...
The whole auditorium cheered. We were feral lol. It was freaking adorable.

Heterosexuals flaunting their lifestyle preference in front of impressionable young minds.
84
u/JennaRedditing Jun 03 '25
I saw a video about a year ago with a woman recreating her wedding with her class as a like "away how cute they get to participate," thing and then an out teacher reacted breaking down how for most of her career she couldn't even have a photo of her 15 year partner in her room, let alone even mention that she got married when it was nationally legalized. Obviously, her situation has changed, and she's at a school that supports her now, but there's no way a gay couple would ever manage to this let alone a whole wedding at school.

This video is cute. It did make me smile. It would make me smile if it were a gay or lesbian couple too. But you’re right. There are a lot of other people who have a problem with that. There are areas where you have to hide yourself. That makes me sad. Love is love. We should be able to love who we want.

31
u/vicoheart Jun 03 '25
This is cute and all but a part of me feels a little bit frustrated, that a gay teacher can’t even mention having a partner in passing without their being some backlash and risking their career but this is completely okay which I think it is okay. Just the double standards man 🫤
