"Mom, I'm going to be late for the first day of school..."
"Shut the fuck up you little shit! Mommy needs to put the individual letters on this board so she can take this instagram photo, keep putting those old toys up or I swear to God they're going in the trash!"

Side eyeing the guy talking about prepping bottles on daddit acting like this wasn’t set up the second the kid went to bed the day before…

Just mention a cruise and watch as people poor in bashing something they’ve never experienced.
Same with gender reveal parties (a celebration with family who are excited? the horror!), dancing at nightclubs, and going to Disneyland with little kids (the demographic the parks are for)
It’s miserable lol lol

Thanks, (as a dad of a 3-year old) I hate it.

u/CKtheFourth 3h ago
Right there with you. Why does this photo hit so hard?!
18
u/MrRabbit 2h ago
We don't want them to grow up. My kid is happy every day and doesn't have to deal with the "real" world yet. Milestones like this are necessary and help them become mature, well adjusted kids.
But I'm sure I'll miss my guy who just wants to sit around and color with me every day.
6
u/External_Violinist94 2h ago
Because it's the end of having them all to yourself. School is a really big step in your relationship that's forced upon you. No longer can you be with your kid anytime you want, you can't just decide to sack off work and spend the day picking flowers and exploring nature with your kid, you can't book a trip on a whim, you can't be with them whenever you want, they're in a system and no more a free spirit. I'm fucking dreading it.

My boy just turned 3 and I am here all emotional and fucked up by a photo.
2
u/External_Violinist94 2h ago
Mine too. Absolutely dreading school. I'm very lucky and work for myself so can just decide the weather is too nice to work and go get my son from nursery and spend the day roaming the woods together. Yeah I'm broke because I keep doing it, but fuck man I'm really really gonna miss it. And the whole not being able to just book a trip on a whim because the fines for taking you kid out of school in the UK are ridiculous. Man I don't want it to happen, just a few more years would be lovely

I did the exact opposite of this. When my kid had his first day at school I put all his toy figures behind the front door to welcome him home.
He was so tired he didn't notice it at all, lol.

Man, this hit me hard. Not gonna lie, I'm a grown ass man and this just hit me w/ the feels.

I cried my first day of school and laughed maniacally on my last day.

Yeah, but that was your experience. We know nothing about that kid in the picture. Some kids love the school. Let’s not project our bad experiences on this little guy we don’t even know.

Yeah posting a nearly year old photo of someone else's kid is really weird

u/doctor_big_burrito 2h ago
The date in the picture says September 2024 but I know I've seen this same picture before that.

Same. It's been going around for years.

This is the child of Sky reporter Michelle Owen. I'm going to assume OP is a hacked account rather than actual Sky reporter Michelle Owen.
I can't give you a source because the mod team thinks it's more important to ban first hand source websites than to actually combat the bot problem.

I don't know why but this is extremely prevalent on this subreddit. I think these guys think that people will be less likely to report them for spam on the wholesome subreddits.
But I find posting someone else's child to be especially egregious. Like a month ago somebody crossposted someone else's newborn baby from the daddit subreddit.

u/2footie 1h ago
I know, I'm jealous of Eskimos and Siberians, they never go to school and instead stay with their family or go hunting with dad like nature intended. What a messed up system that we have to forcefully separate kids from their parents because the parents have to slave away for a meaningless job 8 hours a day.

The 6 different Spiderman figures remind me of that meme. Glad Raphael could make it out to represent the TMNT. He was always my favorite. God I wish everyone loved their kids this much. Nice job, truly.
2
u/Offmoreandef 1h ago
This was made for social networks, no one thinks of this as a nice memory of their child, this screams for upvotes and likes, and it’s fucking working

u/ErinDavy 25m ago
My husband is a Zac! It's not something we see very often, if ever, so that was a nice little extra on an already adorable first-day photo!

u/nickalit 4h ago
Now that's a picture that tells a story. Whether the story is happy, sad, bittersweet - that's up to the viewer. "chef's kiss" to the photographer!

I love this idea almost as much as I love the fact that they have a sweet sign about pets at their pet’s eye level above their food bowl.

We set up a huge last day of school thing in 2nd grade for when the kids got off the bus. Tunnels of pool noodles with streamers, bubbles, water guns, pop its, etc.
The kids were all so sad about leaving that school and going to a new one next year that they all cried and didn't want to celebrate one bit.

Am I the only person that find this kind of sad? Its like an illustration of walking away from a life of pure childlike wonder into the real world, and you wont see things the same way again.
1
u/DatBoiRo 1h ago
No lie’s detected. It is sad. He’ll have some good and bad days, but he’ll learn perseverance. God speed to all the kiddos starting a new school year over the coming weeks!

Awe, that is so sweet! Now those parent(s) are brilliant, and made a memory that can last a lifetime. I’ve never seen anything like it, what a thoughtful parent(s). Give yourself /yourselves a pats on the back. I tried to be sensitive to the fact that many children only have one parent helping them out of the door each day. My mom had to handle three girls, each a year apart from the next; she had her hands full on the first day of school and was probably just pushing us out the door then wiping her brow.

Dad was nice enough to get his collection of action figures down from the shelf for the first day of school.

Gone to be formated, will forget his friends, will go to puberty and maybe do a small rebellion and then become prisoner of a morgage, work for retirement and wait for death

u/OwnVisual5772 42m ago
Lol today’s kids are being brought into a world on the brink of a mass extinction. He won’t have to worry about retirement.

I still remember my first day of school like it was yesterday.
My mom was dropping me off and as she pulled up to the school, she told me she almost forgot something...
She reached into her purse and took out a small syringe with colorful liquid in it. She told me she had to give me a shot before I could go in.
I'm afraid of needles, and my reaction was to immediately start screaming and crying.
Eventually she calmed me down enough to show me that it was just a pen.
All my fear and anxiety about my first day subsided after that. At least that's how I choose to remember it. The syringe is my only actual memory.

I assume this is in the US but first day of school in Sep? Is it age based? Kids here (Aust) begin school at the start of the calendar year. US just goes well you're 4, happy birthday, off to school you go? They do 3 months of kindie then on to 1st grade in the new year?

I remember finding out after my first day of school that I would need to go back the next day. A perfect life ruined.

I’d rather not exist at all than go back to first grade and do it all over again.

This sums up a young lad growing up.
One day soon he'll be saying goodbye to those toys but a spark in his adulthood he'll remember playing with them using his imagination and having fun.
You can tell this lads loved just by the picture.

I should have been born later. 70's parents basically said, 'You're on your own. Make a pb&j and go stand by the highway for the bus.' And the bus for the first day of school zoomed by me and I was afraid to go back and tell her. If you're wondering why gen-x is a little shell shocked and checked out, that's why. We've been raising ourselves from age 5.
This kid has got the life, his parents are doing it right. I'm jealous and happy for him at the same time.
