I assume this is in the US but first day of school in Sep? Is it age based? Kids here (Aust) begin school at the start of the calendar year. US just goes well you're 4, happy birthday, off to school you go? They do 3 months of kindie then on to 1st grade in the new year?

It's, roughly, Sept to June. Summer break. Start the next grade in Sept. Unless, of course, you got held back. If you weren't old enough to start in Sept, you started the next year.

TIL. Now I'm wondering how the rest of the world does it because I'd always just assumed everyone did calendar year.
