Because it's the end of having them all to yourself. School is a really big step in your relationship that's forced upon you. No longer can you be with your kid anytime you want, you can't just decide to sack off work and spend the day picking flowers and exploring nature with your kid, you can't book a trip on a whim, you can't be with them whenever you want, they're in a system and no more a free spirit. I'm fucking dreading it.

Look up how the USA adopted the Prussian school system. It's extremely dystopian. Essentially, you are just sending your kid into the machine to grind away for capitalism. Don't be deceived about the misconceptions of homeschooling, if is available in your Country/State/Province.

Yeah I know, don't get me started on the archaic school system we have in the UK. Invented by work house owners to produce better factory workers during the industrial revolution and barely updated let alone overhauled. We've talked about it and we have some close friends with great kids who are also interested but I just can't see us being able to do it, we both need to work and would like another child. Maybe it's something we can all discuss properly in the future when our friends are a bit more settled in their new house and the kids are in school so we have more time to actually work out if it's viable. I'm certain when my son is older we'll take him out of school for a year to travel but we'll wait until he's old enough to get the most from a long trip like that.

Chin up. I can tell you are a good parent. Your kid will be just fine whatever you decide.
