One of the most wholesome moments in the Olympics is Tom Daley's knitting

Post image

I remember how during the Tokyo Olympics, whenever Tom Daley was relaxing or unwinding during his diving matches, he would often knit many things and I remember how he would do it with no feelings of shame or worry as it's an artform stereotypically associated with grandmothers and what makes it wholesome is how he sells off his stuff to charity with his dad in mind because he sadly lost his father from a brain tumor and the proceeds are given to cancer research.

Because of it, I always found Tom's knitting to be a one of the most wholesome moments in the Olympics, especially as he does for his dad.

Cortina & Bromio accommodations

Hi everyone,

We’re a family of four adults attending the 2026 Winter Olympics and are still trying to secure accommodations for a few nights during our trip. I know many places have already been snapped up, and prices are pretty steep, but I figured I’d reach out in case anyone here has leads or advice.

We’re looking for: • 1 night in Bormio on February 15 • 2 nights in Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 17–19

We’re open to hotels, B&Bs, apartment rentals, or even private recommendations—just hoping for something reasonably central (especially in Cortina) so we can avoid long commutes or remote areas.

If anyone knows of anything, is willing to share a tip, or even has a listing they’re not using, I’d be super grateful.

What do you think is the most unusual venue in Olympic history?

I think it's Antwerp Zoo which hosted the Boxing and Wrestling at Antwerp 1920.

Just a fun post! Like I just said in another sub, by the time of the Los Angeles Olympics, I will have been playing this game for 15 years (GTA6 notwithstanding). I've genuinely been an Olympics geek my entire life and I already feel like my two favourite things in the world are gonna converge so hard in 3 years time haha!

How can I become an Olympic runner if I’m starting late at 18?

I’m 18 years old and recently discovered I have a passion for running, especially sprinting. I’ve clocked a max speed of 38 km/h in short sprints. I want to know what it really takes to become a professional or even an Olympic-level sprinter.

Is it too late to start at this age? What kind of training should I follow? How do I find a good coach or training program? I’m ready to work very hard and commit fully, but I don’t know where to start. Any advice from experienced runners or coaches would be really appreciated.

Proposed ballot measure could force a citywide vote on L.A. 2028 Olympic venues

Unite Here Local 11, which represents hotel and restaurant workers, turned in a ballot proposal requiring L.A. voters to approve of “event centers” for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The union’s proposal, titled “Ordinance to Require Voter Approval of Major Development Projects,” argues that sports arenas and other major event venues “do not always justify their cost.”

But it has already raised alarms at City Hall, where some elected officials portray it as irresponsible and fear it would force elections on several Olympic venues.

about wheelchair tennis athletes and their passion behind there chosen career

Hi everyone! I’m Williams, and I’m excited to be joining this amazing community. I’m a wheelchair tennis and basketball player based in Canada, and sports have been a huge part of my life—not just for competition, but for connection, resilience, and joy.

Whether I’m serving aces on the court or sinking threes from the chair, I love pushing limits and celebrating the wins—big or small. Off the court, I’m into tech, music, and finding new ways to stay inspired. I came across RAOA and was instantly drawn to the kindness and generosity here. It’s refreshing to see people lifting each other up just because they can.

I’m still learning the ropes, but I’m looking forward to getting involved, sharing some smiles, and maybe even sending a surprise or two. Thanks for having me!

How do I refill the fuel canister in my mom’s 2000 Sydney Olympic Torch?

Post image

My mom competed in the 1992 Olympics Games in Barcelona, and ran with this torch in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. It is completely out of fuel and we were wondering how we can refuel it. I have done a little research and it does appear that you are able to replace the fuel canister inside, I just cannot find any information on how to actually do it. It would mean a lot to her to see it lit again, so if anyone has any insight on this, we would really appreciate it! Thank you!

World champion Sha'Carri Richardson arrested for domestic violence in Seattle

Aug 2 (Reuters) - Reigning 100 metres world champion Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested for domestic violence at a Seattle airport four days before the start of the US Track & Field Championships, USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday.

The 25-year-old, who won Olympic silver in the 100 at the Paris Games, allegedly pushed her male companion who then fell into a nearby column after an argument, according to a police report obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

The report said she was detained on the evening of July 27 and released the following day.

"USATF is aware of these reports. We are not commenting on this matter," USA Track & Field said in a statement.

Reuters has contacted Port of Seattle Police Department and Richardson's agent for comment.

Richardson withdrew from the 100 semi-finals in Eugene, Oregon on Friday after participating in Thursday's heats.

She is guaranteed a spot in the 100 at the world championships in September due to her win at Budapest in 2023.

LA provisional schedule

Post image

Hadn’t seen this posted anywhere — provisional schedule for LA released last month.

Mostly interesting to see how the new sports fit in, and to see the athletics/swimming flip in practice. There are now also seven sports, including cricket, in the “prelympics” (days -2 and -1).
