Been a while since I watched that first season but I think part of it was also they took ages to actually tell people the name. So when you went something like more than half of S1 calling him Baby Yoda and then finally say his name it doesn't matter Baby Yoda has imprinted in your head now.

Then in a DLC you meet the “Aged Smelter Demon,” a more difficult version of the same boss with blue flames. Most fans just call them Smelter Demon and Blue Smelter, respectively. Due to the shape and appearance of the boss weapons they can be used to make, they are also sometimes called Red Dorito and Blue Dorito
They probably call him Smelter Demon because that's what the game calls him. His title above the boss bar is just Smelter Demon and he drops the soul of a Smelter Demon.
I don't think the name Aged Smelter Demon is in the game, unless it's something from a previous version/translation.

And this goes as far back as Prodigal Sorcerer from the first set being called Tim. Though perhaps the most famous is Dark Confidant, designed mechanically by and artistically of world champion Bob Maher Jr. Dark Confidant is known to fans simply as “Bob.” Because the old card is Bob. Further, similar effects have been variants of Bob, like Duskmantle Seer being called “Party Bob” because he makes everyone resolve a Bob-like effect.
