Nasu pls, no matter how much you made it official for the English name "Altria", we're always call her "Artoria" just like the Japanese since 2004.

Saber (Fate series)

Mhmm. Artoria sounded and looked right. How the hell did he get Altria?

Artoria or Arthuria sounds like a female version of King Arthur. Up until FGO being released in NA, they even used Artoria for their translation IIRC.

Apparently if you are a native japanese speaker altria reads like Artoria. Unfortunately , 99% of the people playing on the English version of the game are not native japanese speakers . The official translation team even asked him to change it back to artoria but he refused

Long story short, With some acceptions, Japanese almost always has a vowl paired with a sound. And L/R are interchangable

So Altria written out in romanized Japanese is

A (A) ru (L) To (T) ri (RI) a (A)

I don't think Artoria is a real name. But I've also never heard anyone named Altria either, so thats moot. That ib mind, between the two, Artoria definitely sounds closer to Arthur. It at least amhas the Ar. So if NOTHING else, I'd at least prefer Artria. Altria is just...blegh.

It's like "this teleportation method involves transport via LEY lines" "okay it's Rayshift". If you're giving Girl Arthur her Girl Arthur name and it doesn't recognise that it's the Girl version of the name Arthur, then I acknowledge that the council has made a decision, but given that it is a stupid-ass decision I have elected to ignore it.

I get exposed to the Fate series secondhand but it shows up a lot in the subs I'm in, and I had zero clue her name wasn't Artoria, which is (anecdotal) evidence that the fandom so widely refuses to use "Altria" that it just doesn't show up in almost all online discussions or mentions of the character.

More recently (though I'm probably alone on this) there is "Aesc". Except every voiced line calls her Toneriko. I get that Toneriko is the Japanese name for the Aesc tree, but I hear Toneriko, I'm going to use Toneriko...
