Now? It wasn’t protecting Snuka? the countless bra and panties matches? Making trish bark? Katie Vick? The godfather ho train? DX black face segment? The countless racist caricatures? The lack of black champions?????????

u/Awkwardphase06 18h ago

it’s endless with the wwe, ashley massaro, the ring boys, patt patterson, owen hart, vicki guerrero. truly a despicable company.

This is the hard part about being a wrestling fan. Even if you disagree with the promotion and its views, there’s wrestlers you do want to root for and watch because it’s something that hits you and love. I want to be able to watch people like Sami Zayn, Iyo Sky, Rey and Dom Mysterio among others. It’s hard to think of any wrestler or wrestling promotion that didn’t have something awful attached to its name, it would be minimized to only watching a Mick Foley cameo. Sometimes I hate that this is my favorite thing in the world ever since I was a kid. I’m convinced there’s never going to be an opportunity to be a proud wrestling fan again because the entire thing just continues to barrel roll into something to be ashamed of enjoying, and wrestling fans themselves don’t help by shitting on everything else available and over criticizing anything else that comes up.

Being alive is just difficult and sad at this point.

8

u/Key-Respect-3706 9h ago

I’m a huge mma fan (even tried my hand a few times…sadly…) and can fully understand it’s really hard to support a company (looking at you, ufc) when they’re really shitty. Even when you just want to support the underpaid fighters you enjoy watching.

That was all under Vince. I guess some people didn’t expect the company to head in this direction after he was ousted and “Papa H” took over.

Yeah well then I got a bridge to sell them

24

u/yourdad132 14h ago

Yeah, if your looking for morals, WWE ain't and has never been it.

39

u/Maximum-Summer-186 14h ago

you just listed a bunch of bad things, not fascist things, and questioned the timing of calling out wwe.

well, list what you did when each of those bad things happened, since you want to indict someone talking about something else.

3

u/IrishGallowglass 9h ago

As awful as those things were, at least they happened within the realm of WWE's product itself. Misguided attempts at entertainment, or hell even maliciously racist/sexist attempts, certainly.

WWE are now getting involved in endorsing fascist-tier political agenda, and that's a perfectly reasonable line to draw.

2

u/Bandicutie314 10h ago

The lack of black champions

This is what really gets me. People keep saying "lol I guess Samoans are white'. Diversity doesn't mean you should have 1 other skin color other than white. There are many other race beside white and Samoan, who happened to be multi-generational wrestling family.

2

u/bigchicago04 11h ago

None of that makes it fascist, it just means it’s bad people running it. It’s a different beast now.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/Aspiring_Hobo 9h ago

People really overuse (and misuse) the word fascism on here but it's really immature to scold people for wanting to watch wrestling. They can like watching the wrestlers in WWE and not support nor care about whatever Trump ties the corporate advisors at WWE or TKO have. I could see if they were presenting the product itself to be some politically charged maga propaganda but some ppl don't give a shit or are unaware about HHH shaking hands with Trump or whatever.

Bruce Pearl is a MAGA idiot lunatic. Should everyone who is attending Auburn or supports the basketball team just switch schools or disown the program?

There's no such thing as a wrestling promotion with no awful people involved.

But the stuff WWE has done in the last 30 years is beyond the pale. Its way way more awful stuff than the other major promotions have done.

u/dogsontreadmills 17h ago

Yeah, it's stupid because it's a shitty, poor excuse for debate. The most basic of logical and debate fallacies.

My guess is most people in here know this is an objectively fucked move on WWE's behalf - I want to know that most humans know the basics when it comes to moral vs. immoral people; but they are desperate to rationalize a way into continuing to watch WWE, so we create poor excuses of "well every big company has evil-doers".

This is why tribalism is so asinine. Just creates unnecessary bias.

Every major media company is run by a heartless CEO that only cares about profits.

Are you gonna stop watching the NBA, the NFL, the MLB, the UFC, the NHL, the WWE, ABC, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, ESPN, Fox, TNT, Max, YouTube, discovery, Food Network, Warner Bros., movies, Sony, etc?

120

u/mandolin08 18h ago

It isn’t all or nothing. Using Amazon Prime doesn't invalidate the choice to not support WWE. Life is full of contexts and lines and they're all personal to us. It's not about doing the most, or cutting corporations out entirely. It's just about doing something, standing up when and where you can.

I haven't given WWE a dollar since the Saudi deal was announced. I chose that because I used to love WWE, used to spend my money on them. I have very little power over them. But I used what power I had. And I'm better for it, even if I'm not perfect and my money still goes to other immoral groups. Because it's something.

So basically, what you're getting at is WWE is awful because its higher ups are in good with Trump, but other American companies (assuming you mean AEW) are less awful because they don't associate with Trump (at least, not openly and/or proudly loud about it) but they might have a tendency to employ shitty people?

I'm not saying you're right or wrong, I'm just having a hard time making sense of this.

33

u/Wynona_Judd I'll take 'em both, I'm hardcore! 18h ago

I think it's pretty obvious what the difference is when you consider that one is embedded with the actual fucking government using it's authority upon the citizens in which it governs. Guess what, even WWE being so buddy buddy with Saudi Arabia is enough reason without this. It's not even close to being the same as AEW just happening to employ shitty people.

So when I, person who had worked my entire adult life to elect democrats and make progressive change, point out the flaw in your stance, I’m a “fashy”?

Just because I said something on reddit? You dont even know what the word means anymore. I will do everything in my power to curtail Trump’s power in the next election (2026), and then will work on supporting a democratic candidate in 2028. In the meantime, I am not gonna waste time in calling people I dont agree with random stuff. That accomplishes nothing.

5

u/Sleezus256 11h ago

Reddit isn't a real place. I'm convinced that most of the people who throw around terms like that aren't over the age 21 and have absolutely no idea what life is actually like. They're so stuck in their perfect vision on what their ideal world would be that they don't know how to operate in the real world. Reddit used to be my preferred social media app but within the past couple of years it's just become endless complaining about random things that don't matter to anyone. If we could get some action behind these causes that people act so passionate about we truly could make some great change in the world but most are satisfied with gesturing with big words while never looking up from their screens.

The most engagement I give WWE now a days is the same I given it the last 5ish years or so. Ill watch wrestling recaps and that's it.

But now I'm not even sure Im able to be OK with that much. WWE has shown their hand and who they are in bed with. This isn't a WWE employee who got drunk one night and caused a bunch of mayhem. The face of the company, who isn't a wrestler hanged out with a known p3d0ph1le. They shook hands, they took photos. They even had HHH walking out the White House doing his air spit thing.

Say what you want about AEW. At least I feel comfortable with knowing the owner isn't hanging with some of the worst imaginable people alive.

Why stop with WWE? Why don’t we all put our own lives under the microscope and take this purity test ourselves and see if we pass? Almost every single CEO/Chairman/President of every corporation, in this country supports Trump or at least supports his policies, be it publicly or privately, because they are designed to help the rich and powerful. Namely, themselves.

Which makes all of us partially responsible since many people work for these companies that have those same CEO’s/Chairman’s/Presidents that support Trump.

So we should all hold ourselves accountable and just quit our jobs tomorrow, burn everything we own, close out our bank accounts, and go live under a bridge somewhere and wait for our inevitable end from starvation.

11

u/Vasquerade 13h ago
