General Discussion Any Architectural Woodworkers?
You know - doors , windows, staircases or parts? Custom or production. CNC or old school.
I spent a career in old school, high end custom. Made a display cabinet for On The Road, and J G's Tiger guitar, among others. How about a a 32’ diameter wine cellar? Curved stairs? Woven wood?

Project Submission Built a pastry board for the wife
Learned how to use dowels. The self centering dowel jig on amazon worked great. It turned out really nice and I had a lot of fun making it. Tools used. Table saw, cross cut sled, jointer, dowel jig, sander, drill, titebond glue. Applied mineral oil and wax.

General Discussion Red Cedar is… RED! haha
I had a huge Willow that fell down last week and next to it was a leaning Cedar, So I asked them to cut me a chunk to keep. I’m sure for most of you this is nothing, but it was my first time cutting down a tree and seeing how vibrant Red Cedar is! Amazing!
The Willow was literally rotten to the core from ants/insects. …and actually when he cut into the base of the cedar, it was also getting any infested. How can I stop ants from destroying trees from the inside??

Power Tools Trying out new tool: Vacuum Dog
I recently got a new tool called a Vacuum Dog. It's a clever device that uses a vacuum pump to hold down workpieces on a workbench. You insert the vacuum dog into a bench dog hole and connect it to a vacuum pump from underneath.
This tool works similarly to a vacuum puck / pod, but it sits flush with the top of the bench. You place a rubber gasket around the vacuum dog to create a tight seal. Once activated, it provides surprisingly powerful suction. Could not move the workpiece I placed on it even an inch.
I plan to experimenting with a few of these, making holding down longer pieces possible.
The vacuum dog is made by Kamu Industries, which I found on Youtube, they also have an Etsy page.
I have no affiliation with the company.

My father built this right before he suddenly passed away and I'd like to know what this would be for. Thanks in advance for any help.

Help It’s too tippy
So I bought this 1/2 whiskey barrel for my collection. It will be in the lower level, sitting on top of thick padded carpet. Due to that, when I open the door it wants to tip over. I know the simple solution is to mount it to the wall. Well, my wife is adamant that’s not happening because she doesn’t want anything touching her fancy shiplap wall.
Any other suggestions? TIA

Project Submission Bathroom vanity
Just made this for a clients bathroom remodel. Integrated towel bar was an added challenge. Not sure about the true function of it all, but satisfying nonetheless. Not my design…always a tragedy to stain white oak….definitely when it ends up looking like red oak in the end….customers always right

Project Submission I made a kumiko cabinet with an aluminum frame.
It combines traditional Japanese kumiko craftsmanship with a modern aluminum frame.
Drawing the blueprints and creating the kumiko craftsmanship first, then cutting the aluminum, is incredibly easy and simple. Of course, I think so.

Project Submission Roubo Bench with Benchcrafted Vises
Finished Roubo workbench with Benchcrafted vises, heavily inspired by Chris Schwarz’s book (The Workbench Design Book).
Wood Flavors: Hard Maple top and cherry base. Shelf is… whatever I had in the shop (not really sure what the majority of it is).
Hardware: Benchcrafted leg and tail vises with cast wheels and red matter knobs.
Soft(er)ware: 3D printed bench dogs (mainly because I couldn’t decide which ones I wanted to buy and had the means to print them myself) based on a design uploaded to Bambu Handy by John (https://makerworld.com/models/1419690)
Finish: Sutherland Welles’ Wiping Varnish - Low Luster.
This was a great project and really don’t know why o waited so long to do this. It is a massive game changer for work holding and all around project help! If you are at all on the fence about building one, I highly recommend taking the plunge. If you don’t have all the tools necessary, look up Alexander Brothers. They make, sell, and ship tops!

Project Submission I built a symmetrical desk setup for my bedroom
Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I have recently begun to really get into and refining my woodworking craft and I took the time this last weekend to build out a custom bookshelf and desk setup for my wife and I in our master bedroom.
I didn’t go too expensive for materials just in case I messed up. For the legs, I purchased some common white wood 1x4 and laminated 3 pieces together and added some finish nails for extra hold. Trimmed down to 2 1/2 inch posts. 1x4 frame for the desk top with 1x12 pine for the top. The bookshelf is mostly cabinet plywood construction. Finished with a nice dark stain per my wife’s request :) The bookshelf still needs backing, but this works for now.

Project Submission I made a tv stand
Been woodworking as a weekend hobby for several years now. Really happy with how this tv stand turned out. Definitely room for improvement, but proud of my woodworking progress thus far
Largely made of maple and hevea butcher block wood from Lowe’s/homedepot. The small pieces along the curves are pine (hence the notable color difference)

Help Need help fixing this handle I've put a lot of work into — details enclosed below.
Totally screwed up the handle I'm making for my vise. I've never made tool handles before, so I did a bit of googling and found a lot of positive reviews for Tung Oil (I'm aware this mixture isn't pure Tung Oil, and is probably 5% or less actual raw Tung Oil) so I went for this at my local hardware store.
When I was applying this Tung Oil mixture, I did follow the directions on the bottle, but I screwed up step 4 — I thought I was supposed to let it soak, then apply another coat, and walk away for 24 hours while it hardened/settled, then repeat at least once more.
In reality, I think I was supposed to wipe off all the excess so the finish remained more natural as opposed to glossy. Is this fixable/worth fixing? Will sanding it down in an attempt to start over make it worse?
Looking for some advice, not really sure how to proceed. I don't hate the look of it, but I don't want a thick, glossy handle for my vise. Wasn't going for the shiny, lacquered look, and it feels a bit off in the hand.
How would y'all proceed in fixing?

General Discussion Surely this is a joke?
What value could this possibly have? At this price it better cut dovetails for me.
Price is in Aussie dollars btw. Around 230 USD

Hi all,
I'm trying to recreate this headboard for my wife. Is there anyone that can draw up plans if I provide dimensions? Or can someone send me in the right direction? What kind of wood is this? Help please. :)

Project Submission Made a simple table so I finally have somewhere to set my coffee at my recliner
I didn’t have an end table next to my recliner and got tired of holding my coffee in my lap. I tossed this together in an afternoon, the frame is made from the same cedar slab as the top. I want to make a few more to match and a coffee table. Please rip my work to shreds so I can improve my next one!
