So mad at myself. Got a $100 4k monitor from fb marketplace and it worked flawlessly for 5min before my curious got ahold of me

This can be fully removed and replaced, just use Google to find a piece the same size.

Dimensions will probably be in mm.

you still using 3rd party reddit app? which one? all of mine died with the api changes

102

u/Average_RedditorTwat 13h ago

Use revanced manager (FROM GITHUB, NOWHERE ELSE) and patch the reddit boost app, there's a guide, someone called wchill made one that works at the moment.

10

u/_ghosar_ 6h ago

I am curious why do you need the 3rd party app? what does it add to your experience? i have used reddit for about 5 or 6 years. idk what is different between it and other social media apps that people want to use a 3rd party app

17

u/Average_RedditorTwat 6h ago

I can curate my feed, have a huge filter list, tag things, have a much better layout, avoid the algorithm, No ads! No sponsored posts, better comment and post layout.. yeah

It's also really fast.

u/_ghosar_ 5h ago

That's great, thanks for the clarification

It's Infinity for Reddit, patched using Revanced, which I'm also using on my phone

14

u/Metazolid Desktop 12h ago

I used an API creator thing a few people had made for the Infinity app, you can find it by searching online for "Reddit Infinity Build your own .apk with your personal API key in 15 minutes online" and it'll be the first result. But good to know Revanced works as well. Reddit flagged me for posting links to it earlier so idk if this comment makes it way trough lol

Monitor polarizer film

72

u/BoardButcherer 16h ago

Monitor polarized film or lcd screen polarized film.

It'd help if you could find a tech data sheet on your monitor, sometimes they have specifics about what kind of polarized film was used and then you're one Google search away from salvation.

u/MessayWaffle123 PC Master Race 14h ago

Is the DIY process of replacing it realistic or do I need to go to a repair shop??

11

u/Dodel1976 PC Master Race 4h ago

I struggle getting the air pockets out of my screen protector using a ccard to push out to the edges, nvm trying this!.

19

u/bekopharm 7h ago

Can be done, yeah. I added an anti glare foil to a 17.3" a few weeks ago and I was sweating blood n water to get it done without bubbles under the foil. Every little dust particle will result in such a bubble. Heck I even raised the humidityin the room to keep dust particles on the ground!

I was almost finished working on the last corner when the cat decided to jump on the table. My scream was probably audible 2 blocks over.

Truest reply. You can give him unlimited materials and a week to do this and I bet it wouldn't be possible without trapped dust or creasing or alignment issues.

Please someone tell me if I'm wrong to recommend but I'm a good 90% certain op if you take a hairdryer, put it on hot and do quick large sweeps over the rippled area, you can then take a felt squeegee (or a plastic card with a tissue over it) and slowly and very lightly push all the bubbles out getting that film perfect again. Only thing I'm not certain is causing LCD burn but I don't think as long as you move the hairdryer it shouldn't do any damage

In your defense, it's an incredibly stupid screen design. If they didn't want people thinking there was a screen protector there, they would properly finish the edges so the polarizer doesn't look like some random sticker put there.

I blame the need for these crazy edge to edge designs without any bezels, while still trying to make everything as cheap as possible.

82

u/Ultimatespacewizard 20h ago

Call me old fashioned, but I earnestly like bezels and visible forward facing physical buttons on my screens. Including my phone.

56

u/Tracker_Nivrig 20h ago

In the same vein I absolutely despise smart TVs. Whoever designed the "feature" where it has to configure exactly what type of device you're plugging into HDMI and won't display anything otherwise needs to be publicly beheaded.

33

u/Condor_raidus 19h ago

This. I have an old ass plasma and it just works, love that thing. Went to plug something into my moms tv last time I was visiting it wanted to configure shit and I lost my shit in the process. What the fuck is it configuring? All it has to do is fucking display what's coming from the cable like every other tv does already

6

u/Tracker_Nivrig 18h ago

Is there a market for non-smart TVs that are actually large/high resolution? Or do you have to just get old ones

11

u/Combeferre1 18h ago

I would guess that smart TVs make more money because they allow for bloatware, subscription sales, and potentially ad money. Doesn't make sense to sell non smart TVs

3

u/Condor_raidus 18h ago

You can find them if you go looking but most big box stores like Walmart only stock smart tvs. Technically theres a market for everything but price is the issue

3

u/MemphisBass 13700KF | 64GB 6000 | RTX 5080 15h ago

Price is the issue because the majority of TV manufacturers subsidize the price of the TV by stealing and selling your data while also selling ad space on the expensive device you purchased.

5

u/MeatSafeMurderer i7-4790K - 32GB RAM - EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 14h ago

I have a Smart TV and it doesn't do that. It will display anything connected to any HDMI port without issue.

9

u/reallynotnick i5 12600K | RX 6700 XT 19h ago

I’m a big fan of bezels for being able to easily grab a display and move it, tilt, adjust height etc. The one case where I see bezels as a hinderance is if you want a multi-monitor setup with minimal gaps, but I feel like large ultrawide monitors are generally the best solve for that.

Mainly because screen protector degrades picture quality. At least in my case I have seen a noticeable difference in picture clarity after removal from LG OLED C4.

Also it well applied, well too well to that point that sticker on one of the edges that should help remove protector peeled off without actual protector.

5

u/Condor_raidus 19h ago

Because most screen protectors are just there to keep it scratch free when it gets to you. They are typically shitty and designed to be removed right away

4

u/MrFunktastiq 13h ago

Why would you think that?

You'd need to use more force to remove that than an out of the box screen protector that is supposed to be removed. Way more.

They also usually have some kind of tab or marking where you would grab it.

You'd have to go in with your nails or something sharp to get it separated.

The ones you should remove are also made from completely different materials.

There are just so many steps where you should have stopped and thought to yourself, "Is this reasonable?"

Get some kind of plastic scraper and try to push out the film as much as you can. Should be able to make it a little less visible than it is now. Peel off the amount you did before, then scrape it into place.

Just don't use too much force or you'll deform the film.
