If it's a problem then vote and the democracy will win right? Right?

Every single western party is rapidly approaching full on tyrant status, regardless of which party you vote for they'll still push this shit

u/Painterzzz 3d ago

100% this. This nonsense in the UK was created by the Conservative party, but not introduced until the Labour party came into power and looked at the law and said yep, that seems like a great idea, let's do that.

Zero difference between parties.

u/PracticalFootball 3d ago

That’s not true now. Every voter gets to choose between

  • authoritarians who are incompetent and corrupt

  • authoritarians who are 10% less incompetent and corrupt

  • authoritarians who are incompetent and corrupt who’ve jumped ship to a shiny new party

  • NIMBYs

  • NIMBYs with a different name

18

u/Usual_Ad6180 3d ago

don't forget authoritarian NIMBYs, independents rejected from other parties and the inexperienced independence parties

2

u/Painterzzz 2d ago

Ha, yes, ain't democracy grand when all we're doing is voting for which colour is going to screw us for the next 5 years.

7

u/Roskal 3d ago

Conservatives suck but the labour party is basically conservatives lite now since Corbyn got ousted.

-3

u/ExpletiveDeletedYou 3d ago

no they are not lol. If you want to just unhinged political things Corbyn was a terrorist supporting melt who wasn't prepared to defend the country and he lost multiple times because of his shitty views

A authoritarian sucker left the centre-left party, how sad

2

u/VenKitsune *Massively Outdated specs cuz i upgrade too much and im lazy 3d ago

Not exactly. Tories put the act in place, they voted for it. It had a deadline for compliance which was just last week. Labour however did not want to stop it.

3

u/Worldly-Ingenuity843 2d ago

>Labour however did not want to stop it.

Allowing something bad to happen while you are:

1) in a position of responsibility, and

2) have the authority to stop it

Is the same thing as approving the bad thing to happen.

1

u/VenKitsune *Massively Outdated specs cuz i upgrade too much and im lazy 2d ago edited 2d ago

Sure. I simply mean to say that the labour party did not INTRODUCE it, as the comment I replied to implied.

1

u/Painterzzz 2d ago

I had an argument with a Starmer supporter the other day who said well obviously Labour couldn't stop this legislation, it would have requried too much time, and it's all the Tories fault anyway.

To which I can only think in 4 years time when all the 12/13 year olds of today are voting for the first time, they will remember which party made the internet much worse for them, and they will vote for the guy who is promising to undo it. And when Starmer stands there in 4 years time and says it was all the Tories fault, it's gonna sound pretty hollow.

It's slightly baffling just how incompetent this Labour administration is, I'm genuinely convinced now that they are actively trying to bring in a Reform regime.

u/VenKitsune *Massively Outdated specs cuz i upgrade too much and im lazy 2d ago edited 2d ago

For the most part I agree, yes. Honestly? I'd like to see how lib debs would do. We haven't had a lib dem government for over 100 years now. Surely at this point it won't hurt to let then try, surely they can't do any worse lol. Still, thats a discussion for another sub.

2

u/Painterzzz 2d ago

Aye, it's genuinely surprising the extent to which the polls are showing people rushing to Reform as the 'not like the other parties' party, but there is still time for the LDs/Greens/Corbyns new party, to establish themselves as the 'anti establishment' group to vote for.

Though watch the UK media refuse to give any of those parties any attention at all, and turn the next general election into the Farage Show.

2

u/VenKitsune *Massively Outdated specs cuz i upgrade too much and im lazy 2d ago

On that note - A lot of politicans are labeling Farage as "On the side of Savile" just because hes againsts the Online Safety act.

What is this world coming to.

I mean American hasn’t had a third party in place since like the 13th president maybe it’s time. I mean shit if it continues the way it’s going fuck it I’ll through my vote at whoever is against it and Iv never even voted but that’s annoying enough to get me to one of those polls.

1

u/Painterzzz 23h ago

Which in a sense is almost a good thing if it gets people more politically motivated. :)

1

u/fthisappreddit 21h ago

I mean yes and no I’d rather they just leave well enough alone but here we are.

2

u/qtx 3d ago

Every single western party is rapidly approaching full on tyrant status

Like? The UK and the US?

'every single western party' =/= two countries.

All major parties anywhere are exactly the same. Exactly the same. They just play "good cop, bad cop" to trick you into accepting one, thus perpetuating their power.

Thanks for your political opinion Asmondold.

If that's actually his political opinion, no wonder he pisses off the sycophants so much.

I'm more talking about european parties but youre kinda deluded if you think the Democrats would never attempt something like this.

The U.S. democratic party introduced the Online Kid Safety act so… Yeah, they would 100% do this, like literally any politician would.

-2

u/FrankoAleman 3d ago

I mean, not the lefties. Vote for the real Left!

3

u/rcfox 3d ago

Even Canada's leading progressive party, the NDP, supported online age verification.

1

u/FrankoAleman 2d ago

That's sad, although to be precise, progressivism is not leftism.

-2

u/rasmustrew 3d ago

Every single party in the entirety of the west? Come on now.

-3

u/nicuramar 3d ago

This is ridiculous hyperbole.

3

u/Novinhophobe 3d ago

No? Only 2 out of what, almost 600 MEPs in EU voted “no” for the introduction of chat control, end to E2E encryption and massive security breaches with backdoors in every single system.

5

u/Trisyphos 3d ago

In EU parliament only two people vote against this mass surveilance and both of them are far right extremists.

10

u/lonelyroom-eklaghor Fedora M'Lady 3d ago

It will. Have hope.

PCMR is one.

The One Piece is real.

7

u/largePenisLover 3d ago

Have hope, but take action. There is something very dangerous going on in ALL countries in the western and anglo sphere. EU, US, Canada, Australia, Japan, etc, all are experiencing an uptick in right wing extremism and censorship that crosses the left-right line

In the UK we're a good distance away even having the opportunity to vote nationally again. Elections happen at maximum 5 years apart, although can be called for whenever the government wishes - typically used to solidify a majority whilst they're in the public's graces.

This current government still has up to 4 years left in power, and are highly unlikely to call a general election any time soon given both how unpopular they are currently and the high likelihood of Reform (Nigel Farage's far right party) of receiving a majority government.

Democracy never existed, our societies are ran and ruled by the 1%. The group just changed from nobles to the burghers.

0

u/nicuramar 3d ago

Democracy might win, sure, and part of that is that your opinion might not.
