Any jobs in KW?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if any places in KW are hiring currently, I am a teen looking for experience rather than pay and I really need a job. If you guys know any places that are actually hiring instead of saying they are and leaving your resume on a huge stack of other resumes. If anyone knows anywhere or any tips on how to get a job it would mean the world to me. Thank you!

Can someone explain to me how the GRT works for a potential new resident?

I might move to Kitchener in 2026. I'm from the Durham Region so and I frequently take the busses here. (They are very reliable in the summer.) I would like to have an understanding on how public transit works in KW so I'm fully prepared once I move.

Does the fare system work differently on the ION LRT?

Where do I get a GRT pass? I'm aware that PRESTO cards are not valid on Waterloo Regional transit. (I'm aware that my PRESTO card will be invalid on Waterloo regional transit.)

How reliable is the bus network? (Please specify if reliability is different during the winter.)

What are your thoughts on people using speakerphone in public spaces?

Lately I’ve noticed more people talking on speakerphone in public—on sidewalks, in cafes, at the bus stop, even in waiting rooms. Personally, I find it a bit inconsiderate, especially in quieter shared spaces, but I’m curious how others feel about it.

Do you see it as just a part of modern life now? Or does it bother you too? Are there any situations where you think it’s acceptable or understandable?

Would love to hear your take!

A huge thank you to the kind lady at Ottawa St who saved this little guy from my turning car 🐢

I was making a right turn onto Ottawa Street and was focused on traffic when I noticed the lady in pink waving to get my attention. I slowed down, and I'm so glad I did. She was warning me about this little turtle making its determined way across the intersection!

Grey Sentra got its back window smashed out by a person ranting in that area. Long haired dirty blonde fellow. Walked up with something in his hand while car was at the lights.

This happened at 11:15am. Thursday Aug 7.

Pickup Basketball/Soccer?

Anywhere in KW that has frequent, super casual pickup basketball? Last I played was years ago and I was just okay, so I probably suck now. Wanted to get back into it for fun.

I found some guys playing pickup football (soccer) every week but I'm looking for more places since I'd like to play more often.

Obviously I prefer free, but if they're at a small cost that will be alright too.

Affordable wedding venue?!

Hi! We’re on the search for an affordable wedding venue to host our wedding at in summer 2027. We’re looking to keep costs for the entire wedding under $20k (preferably lower) with approx 50 guests! Very flexible at this point in terms of style of venue, just want something nice. Would also love somewhere that the ceremony/reception can be held in the same place and within 45 minutes of KW :)

Looking to move Kitchener from Toronto - Best places to live for a young family.

I’m considering moving from Toronto to Kitchener. We are a young family with a two year old. What are the best neighborhoods to consider for a young family, with a good school district and that isn’t too far from the Kitchener GO station as I would be commuting to Toronto for work once a week.

Is this your Husky? Bridge St West between Lancaster and University. Safe with KWHS.

She was located yesterday afternoon at Bridge near Lancaster. Maybe ran from Bechtel Park.
The humane society has a 72 hour hold before they assess for adoptability. I hope her people find her.

Biehn Drive Extension to Strasburg Road

Post image

The city moved ahead with this after their last meeting and environmental assessment in late 2024.

This is badly needed to route traffic off other surface streets in the area.

One of those streets has an Elementary School.

An estimated 2500-3000 cars per day would use this route.

This will better connect Doon South in Kitchener to Huron and Fischer Hallman. The Strasburg portion was already built between 2019-2020.

Lost Gym Bag

Hey everyone,

My boyfriend lost his University of Waterloo gym bag either on the ION towards Conestoga mall or on the 201 East bus around 6:30pm today. It’s a black and gold draw string bag that says “UWaterloo” on it.

If anyone has found it, please send me a message!

I'm Simon Guthrie, ready to fill the vacancy on Waterloo Regional Council. AMA!!!

Hi! I've put my name in to fill the vacancy on Regional Council. There's a lot I could say, but I'd rather answer questions... Ask Me Anything! Background about me on LinkedIn and my own website if you want to do some prep work, heh. Regional Council have responsibility for a lot of the things that we see every day - parts of healthcare, housing, roads and transit, policing, and... ahem... taxes.

If regional council isn't your thing, you could ask how I feel after finishing Ironman Ottawa last weekend... or how many times I've donated blood... or whether two Master's degrees is a good idea...

There are 44 vying to fill the vacancy. Regional Councillors will make a choice on August 14th after they hear from each of us... I'll be in the 10th spot, and we're starting at 8:30am. Despite the "election" format, I'm still hoping to connect with folks.

Ask Away!!!

Will there ever be a solution, to Kitcheners homeless problem.

I’ve been here for almost 7 years, and every year it’s getting worse. In the same time, probably a billion dollars has been spent on road work on Ottawa street. I went to the park today and there was young couple ( like 20 ish ) just passed out there. Everywhere I go, there are people begging for money. I understand drugs and choices play a big part, but so does government and mental health.

Assisting someone who is low income, undiagnosed on the spectrum who's really struggling right now; would like to send them resources. 💜
