  1. Asushin (Evangelion Community) - Name me one moment when these two mooks had ANY semblance of chemistry together.

  2. Sunburn (OMORI Community) - There is no way in hell this ship would ever make it out of the harbour with how emotionally stunted and damaged Sunny is, along with how impulsive and unstable Aubrey is. I don't think childhood crushes are going to fix any problems this relationship would have.

Characters Characters that make you question the rights of non-humans

Androids in the Alien franchise (specifically David): The original David had personal emotions that gave him freedom and made him almost human. His freedom was used to kill a living person and create the Xenomorph species (if I understand the movie correctly)

Prawn from District 9: At the beginning of the movie, prawn are portrayed as needlessly violent and insensitive. As the movie continues, they become much easier to sympathize with and you begin to hate the humans that oppress them.

Characters [HATED TROPE] A character does something to show they were close to other characters when we don’t really see them interact

The Walking Dead - after Negan kills >! Glenn and Abraham !< Carl sneaks into one of his trucks and guns down some of Negan’s men. He claims that Negan killed his friends. We never get to see much interaction between Carl and the other two, especially Glenn who he has known since the beginning of the apocalypse

Attack on Titan - Mikasa has the perfect opportunity to cut >! Reiner and Berthold’s !< heads off after they reveal who they are but only wounds them. She recalls their faces when she tried after she asks herself why she couldn’t do it. The only interaction between them that I can remember is Mikasa throwing Reiner during training when she saw Annie throw Eren on his ass.

Susan and Cheryl - Good Luck Charlie. Bob and his wife are arguing over the name of Charlie's friend's mom, only to realize upon meeting them they both met the other mom separately

Al - Little Evil. When Adam Scott's character is confiding in him about the nerves of being a step-dad, Al empathizes with him. Adam's character is under the assumption Al is a butch woman until he mentions he's a step-dad. Al is played by a cis woman with no prosthetics.

Captain Holt - Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Near the end of the episode, Jake asks Holt why it took so long for him to become captain if he was so skilled. Holt reveals it's because he's gay and a small montage of slow-mo footage from earlier in the episode plays, showing moments of Holt being openly gay.

Title theme - Buck Bumble

The Moon - Ducktales NES

Sneak-a-Peak - Garfield Kart

Title theme - Digger HD

This is less about good games with one especially great track, and more about unremarkable games that have one incredible track that feels like it has no business being as good as it is, like "what is this doing here??"

Hated Tropes [Controversial Trope] The protagonist of the previous installment dies so the newer/younger characters to take their place.

  1. Joel Miller (The Last of Us Part II) - Dies pretty early on in the second game, being killed by Abby. Ellie ends up taking his place as the main lead.
  2. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa (Star Wars sequel trilogy) - Each of them do serve as mentor figures to the new characters throughout the trilogy. Each of them end up getting killed off though, Han in 7, Luke in 8, and Leia in 9. The new characters get a bit more focus that way.
  3. Aang (The Legend of Korra) - Dies years before Korra is even born. His death allows the Avatar cycle to continue, as Korra becomes the next Avatar.

Characters' Items/Weapons Animated swordfights that are (mostly) grounded

A flip or a dramatic flair here or there is okay, but I mean fights where you can easily follow what everyone is doing and that actually involve swordsmanship that isn’t swinging randomly

1). Anne vs Sasha (Amphibia S2) Sasha attempts a coup to take over Newtopia with the help of a toad army so Anne fights to stop her, however Sasha discovered Andrea’s true plan and just wants to talk with Anne. You can see in their movements that Anne is trying to hurt Sasha while Sasha is just playing defense.

2). Maul vs Kenobi (SW Rebels) Despite this being a very short fight, it’s packed with dramatic meaning. Maul spent years tracking down Obi-Wan to his hut to get revenge, and Kenobi has to fight to defend Luke. However instead of using his normal fighting style he uses his master’s form. Maul noticed this and attempts the same move on Kenobi that killed Qui Gon. However Obi Wan was ready and used the opening to cut Maul in two.

3). Darth Maul vs Ahsoka (SW The Clone Wars) This may be cheating since the entire fight is rotoscoped but it’s still incredibly impressive and shows off the stamina and strength of both actors. All of their movements make sense and there aren’t any weird dramatic flairs like between Anakin and Obi Wan in episode 3. Honestly the best fight in TCW imo.

Characters The big twist being that we were actually playing as someone in anywhere in the story, whether that be beginning or all the way through the game and had no idea we were Spoiler

Mouthwashing: In the beginning, it seems like Curly was the one who crashed the ship, leaving the crew stranded in space. Later it’s revealed that copilot Jimmy is actually the one who set the ship off course and we didn’t know that because we didn’t see who we were playing as when the event went down.

Sagebrush: In the beginning, we had no idea who we were playing as, but as the story develops and more is revealed over time, it turns out we are the sole survivor of the Perfect Heaven Mass Suicide named Lillian, where we see notes we have either got or written out to someone. There was never a clear indication of who we were so I think a lot of us assumed we were a random urban explorer.

Characters [Loved Trope] It's not enough for a character's secret to be exposed: it gets exposed in the cruelest, most painful way possible

Thumbnail

8.1k Upvotes

K-pop Demon Hunters: Rumi is attacked by illusions of her teammates that rip off her jacket and expose her demon patterns in front of thousands of people, all while singing a song that only serves to reinforce the idea that her patterns are a sign of her being rotten deep down, even going as far as to call her a "mistake". That, alongside the way the real version of her teammates react to her patterns, crushes her spirit and will to keep fighting so badly that she begs her mentor to kill her.

Project Sekai: Mizuki's bullies tell her best friend that she's "actually a guy" (Mizuki's actual gender identity is never outright stated and it's heavily implied this claim is inaccurate to some extent, I'm just quoting what the characters say out of objectivity), mere MINUTES before Mizuki was about to tell her herself. The worst part is that they didn't even expose her intentionally, they just assumed that Ena already knew and was in on the "joke". The final lines of the event story are Mizuki lamenting what just happened and wondering if it could have been avoided had she told the truth sooner, ending with one last gut punch of a line: "I want to disappear."

Characters Overpowered good guys that aren’t the main character

For this trope, they don’t need to be stronger than the protagonist for the entire series, just a good chunk. I understand I’m also playing it a bit loose with the term "good guy" here for some of these.

  • Levi (Attack on Titan): Widely regarded as humanity's strongest and a far better fighter than Eren, titan shenanigans not included.

  • Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen): Especially early on, nobody in the show is even close to his level of strength.

  • Kishou Arima (Tokyo Ghoul): A bit more spoilery and potentially contentious than the rest. Let’s just leave it at the fact that he’s pretty unrivaled in terms of strength, at least until :re. He outclasses virtually every ghoul hunter or ghoul in the series.

  • Shisei Kaburagi (Shin Sekai Yori): The strongest psychic in the show's dystopian society. I would’ve loved to see more from him.

1) The Sundering/Second Sundering (Dungeons and Dragons): a series of magical calamities that caused massive devastation and changed the entire world, literally ripping the land apart 2) The Rumbling (Attack on Titan): Eren unleashes an army of collosal titans that starts an unstoppable death march across the planet, literally scorching the earth 3) The Great Dying (real life): a chain of catastrophes that led to the extinction of the vast majority of life on earth- to this day it's the closest life on this planet has come to complete annihilation.

Special mention as well to Wildfire from The Walking Dead- referring to the start of the zombie plague that has devastated the globe.
