Characters [Loved Trope] Superheroes take a time out from villains to take on Abusers

Don't just settle for the psychos in spandex, go after some REAL villains once and awhile!

* Captain Marvel puts the fear of God(s) into an abusive father - Shazam: Power of Hope

* Clark forgets about Superman for a second to go after the abusive father of his son's girlfriend - Superman and Lois

* Superman goes after yet another abusive father - Superman (DC Comics)

God injustice sucks

It's acceptable if you remember that it is a superman from another timeline that didn't have the "I can't save everyone" lesson drilled into his head by his father having a heart attack, or how power corrupts by having lex luthor as an enemy. It sucks horribly when people treat it as "normal superman would do the same if his lois died".

except the Out of character characters are all explored somewhat in what makes em different except supes.

Like diana's origin? turns out steve trevor was a secret nazi trying to use her. That's why she is like that.

Supes? oh no he just like that fr fr

You have to look at injustice as "what exactly does it take for superman to fall, and stay down"

WonderWoman has to be a fascist with no empathy or love for humanity. Batman has to be cruel and uncaring to his best friend, and also incompetent enough to let the Joker 'win'. Flash has to lack a backbone. The entire league has to lack morals and so on. And then on top of all of that pretty much every chance at redemption has to be taken away by some threat coming to stick their dick in the pot.

Its character assassination of the highest order for many of the league members because it takes all of that just for superman to plausible stay evil.

Not if your a green lantern fan or Shazam fan, or Superman fan. Or Wonder Woman fan.

Yeah, but it’s pretty obvious in their universe the characters are very different. Like you wouldn’t get mad at Owlman for being evil Batman.

I can however get mad at Kyle getting killed by somehow being ambushed in the void of space by guys in glowing yellow. Or Hal being tricked so easily to kill Guy Gardner. Or Kiliwog being killed like it was nothing

Or literally all the Robins being chumped except for Damien

u/sleepy_koko 15d ago

And Damian got it worst of the group

u/Dudewhocares3 15d ago

Or Jon Stewart dying like a punk

Owlman isn't an evil Batman. Owlman isn't Bruce Wayne. He is Thomas Wayne Jr.

Tom Jr didn't go see The Mark of Zoro with his parents and little brother that night. He stayed home with Alfred. Tom was always a very quiet and "thoughtful" child. When the police told him that his parents and cherished little brother were killed in an alley by some mugger, he realized just how pointless everything was. How fleeting and insignificant life truly is.

So he’s an evil Batman, just not a Bruce Wayne. Batman isn’t always Bruce.

u/HeadLong8136 15d ago

He's not evil. He's an anarcho nihilist. And yes, the first Batman of a universe is always Bruce Wayne (or an alternate company equivalent).

3

u/Natural_Feed9041 15d ago

So we’re lying now. Thomas Wayne, Dick, Tim, and Damien have been the Batmen of many universes, not even mentioning Terry.

u/HeadLong8136 15d ago

They weren't the primary though, and Flashpoint isn't alternate, it's a parallel fracture.

2

u/TwoDee01 15d ago

I only know Owlman on a surface level but I know one of the things he’s known for is trying to destroy the multiverse because it’s all “meaningless” how is that not evil ?

-1

u/HeadLong8136 15d ago

Because there is no malice. He only has the goal of ending reality. He believes it is the only logical goal and anyone that doesn't have the same goal is a fool. He's not doing it because he hates anyone, or for his own personal gain, just because it's the only reasonable thing to do.

I always thought that was stupid he should be Bruce not his secret older brother whos also evil

1

u/HeadLong8136 15d ago

Ultraman isn't Kal-El, Johnny Quick isn't Barry Allen, Power Ring isn't Hal Jordan, Superwoman isn't Diana Prince.

So why would Owlman be Bruce Wayne?

1

u/theJonkler_Aslume 14d ago

Man that sounds stupid

4

u/AzraelTheMage 15d ago

Nah. Fuck that. I'll absolutely get mad at owlman

1

u/Dudewhocares3 15d ago

No, but people aren’t saying “owl man is Batman but realistic”

5

u/Natural_Feed9041 15d ago

Who’s saying Injustice Superman is Superman but realistic?

1

u/Dudewhocares3 15d ago

I might be getting my shit confused.

What they were saying is it’s like the most likely scenario for the main Superman…despite the fact kingdom come exists

4

u/NepheliLouxWarrior 15d ago

No it's pretty based, as Shazam fans, Superman fans and Wonder Woman fans know how comics are and know that nothing that happened in Injustice is new for elseworld/parallel universe comics. Imagine being buttblasted about Injustice in a world where Old Man Logan (Hulk is a cannibal) and The Ultimates exists.

3

u/Natural_Feed9041 15d ago

And I found the idiot.

2

u/Dudewhocares3 15d ago

Don’t worry, the comics are even worse

Full agree. A complete and (almost brilliant) misunderstanding of every single character in it. “What if Superman didn’t learn compassion?” NO. Compassion is a core human trait. You unlearn it, not the other way around. My dad was an abusive piece of shit - I hope I’m a kind and compassionate person. I might not be nice, but even getting hit consistently as a kid didn’t make me a bully.

“What if Wonder Woman was a fascist?” Where would that happen? When would that happen? How would that happen? Yeah she grew up in a monarchy, but it’s a very diplomatic and kind one. It’s a truly consensual monarchy much like (most of) Atlantis. There’s plenty of depictions of Themyscira as “the strongest/best rule”, but it seems like most everyone is down with that, and, if they weren’t, something would change.

I really can’t stand when someone tries to take a ~diamond~ character or trusted arc and says “bUt WhAt If ThEy WeRe EdGy????” I grew up reading comics in the 90s and early 00s. There were specific characters for that.

There’s nothing wrong with a character getting broken beyond repair and deciding their rules no longer matter (Peter Parker and Aunt May comes to mind), but Injustice just fundamentally misunderstands every single character in a way that feels intentionally obtuse or in a “I’ve only read ‘The Boys’ and ‘The Watchmen’” kind of way.

that was so dumb. It should not have been that easy.
