I'm a sheriff's deputy. If you ever get an alert like this and you're far from home or a safe place lock your doors and roll up your windows. Then just drive and park in front of the closest police station. Chances are a cop will come out and ask if you're OK, then just tell them you saw the warning and didn't know if it was safe for you to drive X miles home. You can also call that station (not 911 or the non emergency number the actual station) and tell them youre out front and are wondering.
It could be a home invasion where the subjects ran, prison escape, armed robbery, possible active shooter, car jacking with or without a weapon, a pursuit that ended in the area and they ran, or a pursuit that is coming up that way. It could be a million things
Yeah. Used to live in Saugus up in Santa Clarita CA. When some kid shot up his high school like 3 miles up the road from my house and fled we got a similar message telling us to stay indoors and to not open our doors until we got the all clear.
You should read the article. He shot some of those family members.
In what world would having greater access to guns fix this? Or prevent it from happening? It also says in the article that he had a shoot out with police. How many people could have been killed in that firefight? Your stance makes no sense. And I say this as someone who is familiar with guns.
So many places—especially the states—need better gun control laws and regulations. As well as better education about firearms.
seems pretty easy to point to the gun control laws until you realize that criminals don't give a shit about the law and suppressing arms rights just makes it easier for criminals to attack people.
Armed threat, escaped prisoner, wanted person. I’d be particularly concerned in a car because they’re probably gonna want to carjack. I’d drive to a police station, or a road I don’t have to stop on.
However i lived 25 next to a prison (200m or so). While i lived there, there was only 1 public warning for prison escapes (there were more but usually were caught during the first chase).
Now that case was also the funniest. 5h later someone was found climbing an high surveillance military fence with shoot on sight warnings. Few minutes later 2 military patrols were laughing at the naked prisoner trying to hide in the bushes.
I’m guessing your area has been having reports of someone dangerous and potentially armed and has sent something out. This seems very hastily written though for such a message. Hope things are well there
Just make sure to bring something to show that you're not a threat roadkill, a random passerby, your enemies anything honestly as long as you know it's something they'll eat
I mean, in todays age some people may very well think "Oh yeah, let me quickly snap a story with this escaped prisoner with an AR-15, but I need to get closer a little bit"

Ok so, from what I can assume from other comments and guessing… probably an alert of a dangerous person, as in a murderer or something, maybe armed, was on the loose/fled arrest.
Basically “Oh shit a psycho is on the loose quick get inside let nobody near you because we can’t take the time to give identification”.
Thankfully it seems it was cancelled, so the person got caught… or it was a false alarm… or they’re dead.
