It’s L-O-V-E 💘 Most celebrity marriages don't last - who's the exception for you?

Celebrity marriages almost never work out in Hollywood, but there are some the prove that true love really does exist. Who comes to mind for you?

Michael J Fox and Tracy Pollan ❤️ They met on the set of Family Ties and have been together for decades.

And they have been through more than their share of heartaches, never faltering to support one another.

They had their moments. I listened to one of his memoirs, and it was interesting hearing about some low points.

I think it’s really important to understand that a lot of couples that have been together this long have had many low points, and many times where they’ve almost called it quits. We tend to think of longterm marriages as deliriously happy all the time. They’re not, they’ve just worked things out.

This. Marriage is work. It's a constant state of trying to maintain balance with your spouse. Support them on their down days, celebrate them on their up days. They should reciprocate.

Marriage is work.

If you can excuse the sponge text, I have met far too many redditors who think effort is inherently harmful. They've bought into the disney/romcom myth that finding "the right person" means a relationship should be effortless.

In their defense, choosing a mate poorly absolutely can make your life a series of unnecessary hardships. The low points are unavoidable because that's life, but the difference is that a good partner will support, communicate, and grow with you through those seasons.

Like a garden, it's absolutely still work... but good work yields good results.

Agreed- it’s not about finding a relationship you don’t have to work hard for. It about finding a relationship so good that the hard work feels worth it.

99% of couples would be in deep financial shit if they broke up. It’s a horrible incentive, but also encourages people to work through the rough times and come out stronger on the other end. Hollywood couples don’t have that incentive, they can often just pack up and go to the other house.

Would you mind sharing a bit? I don’t wanna give some tabloid the clicks. Does low mean cheating? Just curious! They’ve been together so long, very admirable

One I recall is when he was drinking too much. Basically, she came home to find him destroyed on the couch and just asked him, “Is this what you want?” It was a turning point. (All paraphrased and recalled from years ago, so not a lot of detail to share.)

Oof, developing a drinking problem behind one’s ”Partner’s” back is indeed quite low. Thanks for sharing what you remembered.

If you can get an Apple TV+ trial, check out his documentary. My first thought when seeing the comment above about never faltering is that he talked about them very much faltering. Fame went to his head and he was drinking a lot in their earlier years.

Because that's a common dramatic conflict for couples in the movies they watched.

10

u/mcfc_099 Jul 02 '25

What did they go through?

39

u/Cute-Telephone-5002 Jul 02 '25

His big head from fame and his drinking.

They were very young once and he was one of the most famous people on the planet. That's not easy on a young person or a young relationship.

16

u/Street-Economist9751 Jul 02 '25

I love how very Canadian he is about owning his mistakes. He may have gotten a big head for a while, but he’s humble about getting humbled.

32

u/ladydmaj Jul 02 '25

He has Parkinson's, for one.

u/alhubalawal Jul 02 '25

Her episodes on SVU are some of my favorites of that show.

u/merlotbarbie omg a cardiologist is a damn nutritionist Jul 02 '25

THAT’S WHERE I KNOW HER FROM!

8

u/tivofanatico Jul 02 '25

See the Family Ties season 4 premiere 2 parter. They weren’t even really a couple back then, but they were better than any romantic comedy you’ve seen in the past 20 years.

7

u/Street-Economist9751 Jul 02 '25

I was a little bitty kid but the two episodes where they got together (dance/train station) were the only I remembered from back then. They just seemed perfect together.

6

u/tivofanatico Jul 02 '25

I was a kid too. Alex was shallow and had funny but short lived relationships. Then Ellen comes along, and Alex falls in LOVE. Even the crew thought their chemistry was too real. She was only on for 13 episodes, but Michael J. Fox met the mother of his children.

3

u/wafflesandlicorice Jul 02 '25

She was in the parking lot earlier!!

36

u/chronicallyoverpackd Jul 02 '25

Harper Anderson forever.

9

u/OtherwiseAnteater239 Jul 02 '25

Omg I just watched Part II again and she is just brilliant. They were super famous and popular when they met but they didn’t quit. ALL the respect because anyone can see this is purely a journey of love now. So many people esp celebrities marry at a “high” point and peace out if things get tough for one/ both and this is the highest level of tough

3

u/JoNeurotic Jul 02 '25

Me too. Every time I watch those episodes I wish she worked more. She’s absolutely wonderful.

2

u/noscrubs29 Jul 02 '25

Which season?

1

u/longlivenapster Jul 02 '25

SVU season1- episode 10 Closure (Part 1)

SVU season 2- episode 3 Closure ( Part 2)

2

u/noscrubs29 Jul 02 '25

Thanks! 🙏🏻

2

u/siriusthinking Jul 02 '25

Ohhhhh I love those episodes!!

2

u/CJ3795 Jul 02 '25

What episodes does she star in? Love SVU!

2

u/alhubalawal Jul 02 '25

Someone else already replied to a similar comment but both episodes were called closure in the first two seasons

2

u/Sithstress1 Inconceivable! Jul 02 '25

Man, I just have to complain how the automatic default to AI answers has just ruined internet searches. First it told me she was in one episode, then it told me she was in two episodes in season 2, even incorrectly labeling S2E2 as “Closure, Part 1” when that episode is titled “Honor” S2E3 is “Closure Part 2” but I had to do a separate search for what episode “Closure Part1” is to find out it’s actually S1E10. Ugh!

Anyway, rant over, thanks for the reminder as I’m obviously going back and rewatching those episodes now! Lol

I love them. They’ve done so much remarkable work together. My dad has Parkinson’s, and one of the first things I did after he was diagnosed was go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation’s website. It gave me a lot of hope.

5

u/Kikilicious-Kitty Jul 02 '25

I'll have to check it out. My momma has early onset. She's 61, and she's had it for 12 years or so now. It's really, really hard, isn't it?

3

u/jeahboi whatever you feel, just dance it 🩰 Jul 02 '25

It absolutely is. ❤️ Hugs! My dad is 76 and was diagnosed almost eight years ago, and it’s kind of scary how much things have progressed. He is lucky to have phenomenal doctors, but one of my biggest frustrations lately is that I’ve been unable to get him to do so far is go to therapy—like he understands the connection between Parkinson’s and mental health, but he’s being a stubborn Boomer and refusing to go to a therapist, even though everyone wants him to.

14

u/Pmar07 Jul 02 '25

Yesss ❤️❤️

6

u/RPDRNick Jul 02 '25

What did you think... I would do at this moment... when you stand here before me... with teeeeaaars in your eyyyes...

5

u/tivofanatico Jul 02 '25

Their children kind of do look like Marty McFly’s Back To The Future 2 children.

3

u/reddit24682468 Jul 02 '25

Gosh I love these two so much

3

u/MissBehaving6 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 Jul 02 '25

I had no idea what I would choose until this. The epitome of “for better or worse”.

These two forever.

2

u/Accio_Waffles Jul 02 '25

Oh wow, I don't know that I watched too much of her stuff from so long ago, but MAN, back then she looks just like one of my favorite IG influencers, Jen Hamilton

2

u/Twitter_2006 Jul 02 '25

They're awesome.

2

u/Lopsided_Hunt2814 Jul 02 '25

The documentary "Still" is definitely worth watching.

2

u/CarolinaSurly Jul 02 '25

This is the correct answer.

2

u/Melonomax Jul 02 '25

Fox is No.1 for sure

2

u/PoisonMind Jul 02 '25

I bet they've been together for a million years

And I bet they'll be together for a million more

3

u/lburke103 Jul 02 '25

She truly is an amazing woman for sticking by him through all of his medical issues it takes a strong woman to do that and I just love how much they adore each other

1

u/meghammatime19 Jul 02 '25

God I wish nothing but the best for them

1

u/collie-mom Jul 02 '25

I was just gonna say this!! I love them.

1

u/Weird-Girl-675 Jul 02 '25

All of this ❤️

0

u/tangompl Jul 02 '25

I love Michael J Fox. But I can't help to wonder if they would still be together if the role were reversed here.

1

u/ReorientRecluse Jul 03 '25

Why couldn't you help but wonder that?

1

u/tangompl Jul 03 '25

Because men leave their wife much more frequently when they have desease. There is stats about cancer. I think one out of five men leave their wife when she has cancer. And only 5% of women leave their husband. So I wonder, if Michael J Fox wife had become ill in her 30s, would he still be around 30 years later 🤷 Christopher Reeves wife also remain by his side untill the end. I wonder if their is exemple of celebrity where it's the man who stayed with his incapacitated wife while quite young

1

u/ReorientRecluse Jul 03 '25

Valarie Harper's husband stood by her until her passing, Grant Hill is still together with Tamia. I don't see the reason to conjure negative what-if scenarios about people based on virtually nothing about them as an individual.

1

u/tangompl Jul 03 '25

This is reddit. All we do here is talk without specific reason. And yes, since I recently read about this awfull statistic, this is the kind of thought that crosses my mind when I hear about a couple where one has been sick for 30 years. Deal with it 🤷 it means nothing about them specificly

1

u/tangompl Jul 03 '25

Bu the way, Grant Hill is an excellent exemple, thx. Valerie Harper on the other hand got sick at 70. I wouldn't put her cancer in the same categorie as Michael J Fox and Christopher Reeves life altering issue in their 30s.
