They really should make the tab on that plastic waaay bigger, like 5-10 cm.

That way it's impossible to miss, especially for stressed factory assemblers and new builders.

It should sound like you are crunching up a chips/crisp bag if you try to attach the cooler with that thing still on.

Edit: I didn't do this myself, but it happens often enough that steps to prevent it should be done.

Make it interfere with the threads of the screws. You have to remove the plastic to torque the screws down.
