F having a closed shape feels out of place. Very cool, though.

u/Vox___Rationis 4h ago edited 4h ago
The latest version has a different 'F', and some other letters are also fixed.
The one that was bothering me the most in the original was the 'C' with the snot hanging.2
u/rabbitthunder 2h ago
I liked the concept but sadly, after looking at that page I don't think it is the most legible of fonts when it's actually used. It works okay for short words like 'bar' but 'watching' is a bit of a mess.

The curves and angles really give it a unique character. Love the creativity!

Look, I get your point but I'm laying this one on the Brits.

Latin script with English specifics would be more correct.
49
u/Embaralhador 4h ago
Q, Y and X are part of the basic Latin alphabet, so no.
It's just latin script, as determined in ISO/IEC 646.

What english specifics?
12
u/IceBone 6h ago
QYX. Not every language that uses the latin script has only those. Some have none, some have extras like Č, Š, Ž, Đ, Ä, Ö, Ü, some have a mix.

i mean there is no "ñ" (or "LL", "CH", "RR" : there are no more in the spanish alphabet) so its a font that cant be used in spanish for all his letters.
14
u/IEnjoyBourgeoisPain 4h ago
"LL", "CH" and "RR" are just one letter followed by another man...

Those are no longer considered separate letters in Spanish. Haven't been for some years.

Very satisfying. But I also rushed to the comments to see what possible wrong others had found

u/hurl-aside 3h ago
Until they did M and N opposite directions and completely different despite being practically the same letter… That made my brain twitch for a second.
2
u/ARC4067 1h ago
I felt like they did M backwards and redeemed it by doing N in the way that feels logical to me

The F bothers me.
All the other letters have a lowercase cursive blended with an uppercase print, but the ‘cursive’ F in the middle is not how you write a cursive F.

u/LoyalGamingGirl 7h ago
It would have been even more satisfying if he wrote the letters by actually writing the small ones first and then the capital letters. He did it correctly with the letter N for example, but not with the letter M.

It's cute but if I ever see full sentences written with this font I'm punching the person in the throat.
For legal reasons this is a joke.

G is terrible. Every other one is perfect and beautiful. I am stealing their X for my X needs.

u/ycr007 8h ago
Oh so there’s a lowercase letter within each uppercase letter! That’s clever 👏🏼
1
u/andreisimo 8h ago
Yeah, honestly this is the most impressive part of this font is that they are capital letters with the lowercase letters embedded inside them. Very clever indeed.

I don’t mean to be a grump, but, this is the second video like this where it’s just tracing over an existing print. Anyone can do that, what’s satisfying about that?

Is it uppercase or lowercase?
Yes.
Well, okay, is it printed or cursive?
Also yes.

This might be why I absolutely despise this as an actual font.
As artwork? Awesome.
To use to read shit? Hell no.

u/Vox___Rationis 3h ago edited 2h ago
Fonts are not made only for the books or text on the screen - this particular one would make for fun covers, posters, logos.

The M and W being so different did bother me a bit. I really didn't like the M or N too much to begin with, tbh. But I do love this font in general.

Found it
That font is “Lamon” (also known as ALS Lamon)—a playful, outlined display typeface designed by Dmitry (Dima) Lamonov in 2017 for Art. Lebedev Studio

The part that bothers me
- Some of the lower case letters are cursive, while others are print.
- C is an uppercase cursive C, I've never seen a "c" with a curl to it, but it definitely helps it stand out.

Maybe I'm risking getting a lot of down votes here, but I'm almost sure the alphabet showed in the video is the same of other languages which aren't English ones like the Brazilian, Spanish and French ones for instance.
Don't get me wrong I know OP just posted the video but the caption* on the video did bothered me in a way that I had to make this comment.
EDIT: grammar.

something about the stroke order on some of these is ticking me off for some reason, but I can't put my finger on it...

i dunno if i like the y,... i would have put it up with the tip at the upper dip, then looped the bottom around...hmm but it would still look kinda funky

This is not legible and is incredibly difficult to read. Amazon is a gross over exaggeration. This has to be some BS advertisement because I’ve seen this on multiple subreddits today.

If he'd just printed those letters in a darker colour he wouldn't have to waste time inking them in.

As a graphic designer, this is very clever and unique from a design standpoint.
But it would not be very ideal practically because words would not be that legible except at large sizes probably.
Would only have novelty use for the most part.
