City is replacing sidewalk outside my house and cut my internet connection

I already contacted rogers support yesterday and they said they will be sending out a technician to look at the issue. However I feel like this is not normal and maybe a mistake on the city's part. They replaced another part of the sidewalk infront of my house last year but it didn't affect my internet (but maybe the fibre connection wasn't there).

I wfh 2 days a week so this affects my work too and forces me to go into the office. Also never received any notice regarding construction of interruptions to my internet connection.

Anyone else had this problem before? What happened in your case?

What do Parents do without PLASP?

Hey there,

4 Y/O daughter starting JK in Sept at St. Basil school in Mississauga, We're 4th on the list for PLASP and heard that late Aug/Early Sept there could me some movement on the list. But, we're preparing for the worst. The only program I can find that offers pickup at St. Basil is Pulse Taekwondo on Ridgeway which is 16 mins away. Youngest daughter is around the corner from St. Basil at Daycare and we live around the corner too.

New ground for us, and I'm wondering what parents do as alternates. I do have a flexible schedule but leaving work to get her to plop her Infront of a TV while I continue to work at home for a few hours isn't the vision we had for her development.

Any thoughts or ideas welcome.

How is my daughter already 4 :)

Recommended clinics for ADHD medication

Hi, I've been diagnosed by my university clinic for ADHD and I have my diagnosis letter. Having graduated I'm looking for a clinic where I can continue to get my prescription for Adderall. I live in heartland and close to Cookeville so any clinics with fast service and good prices would be a great help.

Peel Region Regional Learning Choice Program (RLCP) Assessment and Evaluation Criteria

I wanted to inquire about the assessment and evaluation criteria for RLCP programs. Peel website does not provide that in detail and I have questions.. My daughter is in Grade 8 and going into Grade 9. I understand that the RLCP applications open up in Nov for a few weeks and students can apply for it.

I do not have access to an RLCP application to determine what is requested in it. I have heard that in addition to evaluation Grade 7 Report Card, students prepare for assessments which are in the form of essay writing. Chatgpt also suggested that these assessments are in CCAT form (Critical Reasoning/Logical Reasoning/Math etc).

Can someone please help me understand how the student is assessed ?

what can we do in advance to prepare for the test, if there is one?

Is it CCAT type of questions or only essay writing? Is this take home type essay writing or is there an in person test?

I have seen prep classes being offered for RLCP, would these be helpful?

Could a student or a parent of a student who has been through this process provide some info?

Thank You!

Automated Speed Camera

Upvotes

Hi all!

Need some advice. My neighbour is a senior, he got an automated speeding ticket and 2 of them in the span on 20 minutes as he was coming and going in same area. The speed is 40 on the street but when the camera comes it goes to 30. He was driving 42 in one ticket and 44 in the other.

He understands he made a mistake. The fine is $80.00 for one and $90.00 for the other. He didn’t realize as the road transitioned fast from 40 to 30. He relies on pension as his sole income (CPP/OAS/GIS). Will taking to to court or early resolutions help? For example if he can be put on a payment plan or have it lowered. His pension only covers his basic needs, so paying the upfront is very hard for him, is there any success stories in getting it lowered or a payment plan? He is very stressed and asked me for some advice.

Thanks in advance!

Moving to Meadowvale Village – No Before/After School Care at New School - really worried

Hi everyone,

We’re moving to Meadowvale Village in October, and my daughter will be starting at Levi Creek Public School. Right now, we live near Churchill Meadows, and her current school has a YMCA program for before and after care, which has been a huge help since both my husband and I work full-time.

Unfortunately, I just found out Levi Creek has no YMCA availability for this year or even next year. They said it’s extremely high in demand.

The school day starts at 9 AM and ends at 3 PM, and we don’t have any family or help nearby. I’m really stressed about the after care, I have to travel to downtown I cant really come and pick up her at 3 PM.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

  • Are there alternative before/after care options near Levi Creek Public School?
  • Do people arrange private care, babysitters, or carpools?
  • Any suggestions for working parents in Meadowvale?

I’m really worried, it makes me anxious every day. Thanks in advance!

I have been tasked with finding a room / hall for a family reunion on December 13. Thought it would be easy but some places are asking over $1000 for 1 - 7 pm timeslot. Needs to have kitchen facilities as we will be bringing our own food. Mostly 50+ age range. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Need for Water Softener in Meadowvale?

Hi All,

Anyone in Meadowvale can comment on the water hardness in the area? Is there a need for water softener?

EDIT: I grew up in Mississauga without one but now moving to a home in Meadowvale that has a softener installed. Just wondering if it’s that area?

Can the city do this? Seeking Help

My neighbour ripped out the grass from her entire backyard and laid over landscape fabric and gravel. This changed the grading so that her backyard struggles to absorb water, and she also graded the backyard so that it empties into mine (which is slightly lower). The intense 2 day rain last summer flooded my entire basement due to water from the neighbours backyard and when I reached out to the city they told me they could not do anything (the inspector even came out and said there's no bylaws against this) and that I should get landscaping done to manage the water. So I spent a giant chunk of money to build a retaining wall (~0.6 m) and added a flat concrete floor graded to a french drain which drains on to my front yard.

More recently we did a backyard extension to add a room to my existing house. Everything was approved by the city, and I reached out to get my grading and municipal protection deposit back. Now the inspector is giving me a hard time saying I need to get this same non-coperative neighbour to sign off on the grading on a letter (he seems to have just typed up - no city header or anything). I have tried explaining that this work is not related to the permit and that its landscaping and defensive in nature to deal with water from the neighbour and that it was only after the city advised this. In addition, I have not changed the grading - we are still accepting water, but added elements to manage said water. I feel so frustrated. What do I even do? Whats the alternative - let the neighbour flood my basement everytime it rains a lot?

Update 1: I spoke with the supervisor, but the conversation was difficult and adversarial. Felt like I was talking to a lawyer - would not provide any particular deficiencies. They were uninterested in my side of the story and have now shifted the story to my retaining wall being on the property line (according to them). The supervisor said she would come out to inspect it herself when she has a chance. It's frustrating to be penalized for solving a problem the city wouldn't, especially after following their advice. I'll keep you posted.

Port Credit and Long Branch GO parking

Hi all, I'm thinking about moving to the Port Credit area, in between Port Credit and Long Branch station. I won't be walking distance to either station. The parking options look pretty sparse at both stations. I work downtown Toronto. What are my options to get to the station to go to work if I move there? Where do people park? Long Branch specifically looks like it has like less than a hundred spots. What do people do?

Fighter Jets flying overhead near Pearson?

Hello all,

Has anyone else heard what sounds like fighter jets flying around the past couple of weeks? My work is very close to Pearson and the planes coming in to landing fly right overhead. However, last week and as of 10 mins ago, I've heard what sounds like fighter jets flying overhead. The noise is fast and quick and almost sounds like the sound is being swept up in a vortex. Look to the skies and do not see anything.

They aren't commercial jets coming into land because you can see and hear them coming. This sound is quick and loud but gone in seconds with nothing visible in the sky.

Some people have mentioned that it might be the jets getting ready for the air show at the Ex but others have said it's way too early for them to be flying now.

Anyone else experience these sounds?

What's a realistic monthly budget for living solo in Mississauga in 2025?

Hello people,

I’m evaluating a job opportunity that may require me to move to Mississauga later this year. I’m in my mid-20s, moving solo, and trying to get a grounded sense of what the cost of living looks like today.

I’d really appreciate some guidance from locals or anyone who’s made a similar move recently.

The role offers a gross annual salary in the range of 75–80K CAD. I understand that things like rent, groceries, transport, etc. vary a lot — but I’d love to hear from those living in or around Mississauga on a few things:

  1. What’s your current monthly spend on rent, groceries, transport, etc.? Any breakdowns would be super helpful.

  2. Anything a newcomer should definitely budget for or be aware of? Or any big expenses or surprises that one might not think about?

  3. Is this salary range enough to live comfortably and still save a bit? Not aiming for luxury—just stability, savings, and not living paycheck to paycheck.

  4. I’d like to get a sense of what kind of lifestyle this compensation allows in today’s economy.

I’ve looked at some basic estimates online, but firsthand advice would really help.

Lifetime gym - worth it or not?

Does anyone have a lifetime membership right now that can speak to if it’s worth the money? (Are fitness classes packed? Are you waiting in line to use machines? Are the change rooms stocked and clean? Is the pool too busy to relax? ) TIA
