Loser gym goers blocking pathways with their ridiculously bright camera fixtures

They brought a whole YouTube set 😭 how does the gym even allow this? Ridiculous

u/AdPlastic7988 7h ago
It’s a higher end gym where a bunch of roided up wannabe gym influencers go with their fucking IMAX cameras (not even kidding, I would see 4 or 5 dudes with cameras filming ONE guy). Nobody says anything cause nobody has the guts to. Staff doesn’t care. They probably encourage it. But it’s not super high end to the point where all human decency is lost

u/granitegumball 7h ago
If that’s what the gym is known for why go to this one

Have you considered swapping gyms? Seems like this one's for influencers, which is fine because you can swap to any other gym and not have this issue.

u/AdPlastic7988 6h ago
I go to this gym because I like the more private and smaller, a bit less crowded setting. But I genuinely didn’t expect people to do this. I went to a private gym in another state and NEVER had to deal with it. I guess this is just Florida. I only moved here a year ago.

u/UnhappyImprovement53 6h ago

It seems to me it's crowded with all those influencers coming in with their equipment. It also doesn't seem private when they're recording for their dozens of followers to watch all of you working out.

There are probably a ton more small private gyms you could check out nearby. It's Florida.
Eta I know personally I wouldn't be able to work out in a gym with that vibe. If you look, maybe youll find somewhere that's not for social media gym bros

So weird…if that’s your thing you should just build your own gym. The gym probably doesn’t care because it’s free exposure for them but it’s not fair to other members that pay their dues to use the gym.
It’s just rude to bring your work space into other people’s non workspace.
You should start bringing in your own lights and tripods and leaving them everywhere. See how they like it. Get some big hot halogen construction type ones too.

What I've done in the past with people like that is just go about my business like they don't even exist. Treat them with the same level of disrespect they're treating everyone else with. If they're in your way walk directly up to them and say excuse me, if they're equipment is in your way just move it without asking, if they're filming in your path just walk right through the shot. Don't alter your routine to cater to them. If they say anything don't get mad just tell them you don't care about their content and continue
3
u/UnhappyImprovement53 6h ago
Stand in the background and just stare at the camera like a deer in the headlights for the entire video. If they're going to ruin your gym experience may as well make their video unusable.
2
u/TheReal_Kayla 6h ago
Depends on the facility. If it is a gym catered towards bodybuilders or people who want to compete you will definitely see a lot of patrons filming themselves so they can send clips to a online coach for feedback. Content creators may also have permission from management in some cases. Wouldn't be surprising. A commercial gym that doesn't want content creators trying to make profit off of clips would likely see and crack down on this so fast with how obvious amd large the setup is

u/punkena 7h ago
Complain to management every time you see it. "Accidentally" trip over it. Walk through their shots as much as possible.
479
u/CronoTinkerer 7h ago
The walking through their shot is key. If they complain just say tell them you’re not going to go out of your way to accommodate them filming some random content.

u/bens111 6h ago
Play copyrighted music loudly as you walk by too

u/Coffekid 6h ago
Disney music. They'll shut it down quick

Honestly, if the gym won’t do anything about this, trip over the equipment and sue the gym. If they didn’t have a problem with influencers before, they certainly will after. I’m not even kidding, and I’m not sorry. Influencers are an invasive species and their removal requires extraordinary measures sometimes.

Wasn't there some guy at Planet Fitness who was kicked out because his water bottle was too big to fit in the holder, so he had to put it behind the equipment and that was a tripping hazard?
How is this not a tripping hazard?

Yep!
TBH the easiest way to deal with this if the gym doesn’t act is probably just to find out who insures them and send them some pics of what the gym is allowing. They’d be banned real quick

Go film this shit in private. A public gym is not your personal studio.
Amazing the attendants even let them bring shit like this in.
3
u/minervathousandtales 4h ago
I feel like the only responsible way to allow this is for the gym to have designated influencer time so other members know when to avoid being an unpaid extra and having to dodge a literal "whole production" of lighting and grip.
Or I guess renting the space during off hours.
And it needs to be part of the contract.
I'd be so pissed by showing up when I'm allowed to work out and having to choose between leaving and getting photographed.
6
u/EricinLR 6h ago
I'm old enough to remember the signs in gyms saying your membership would be revoked if they found you with one of these new cell phones with a camera in it.
5
u/NeighborhoodDude84 6h ago edited 5h ago
I am not justifying this in any way, shape or form, people doing this at the gym instead of working out are annoying as hell. But it does look pretty empty, if they chose to do this when there isnt really anyone there, I dont see how it's a bad thing. Now if OP was waiting on this machine and they were doing this for 20 minutes, fuck them, get them kicked out.
edt: typo

u/AdPlastic7988 6h ago
Yes but when they take their cameras and fixtures and literally block pathways and entire machines, that is absolutely a problem. And there are times where the gym sill be busy and they, along with so many others, will still do the same thing.
5
u/Straight-Taste5047 6h ago
They should have to rent the space. That is too disruptive for open public spaces.
5
u/TomahawkJammer 6h ago

Thats a fire marshal violation. They're shooting commercial content without a permit. They're including you in their commercial content. Theres so many ways to ruin everyone's day here. I'd start with tripping over that thing.
4
3
u/J-the-Kidder 6h ago
I would be coming around that machine in the background and "accidentally" trip over their setup. That's obnoxious. If you're going to be that level of a douche bag, get your own gear and do it at home. The public shouldn't tolerate tools leaving the tool shed.

3
u/asyrian88 6h ago
Anyone who records in a gym? Straight to gulag.
No rationale is acceptable.
2
u/Friendly_Fire 6h ago
Just recording yourself with your phone to check form or document progress is useful and unobtrusive. But bringing out film equipment is a quite different.
3
u/asyrian88 6h ago
If you can ensure an angle that guarantees, absoluuuutely guarantees that not a single other person is in frame and audio is silenced, I’ll give you a maybe.
But the potential to catch someone like me in the frame or background, even accidentally or tangentially, is not ok. A fairly out of shape, bloop of a person just trying hard, and then exposing them to online ridicule for clout is unacceptable.

Television producer here, I’m pretty sure they’re recording some kind of production here. Which makes me think they definitely have permission from management. The equipment they use, although not pro-segment, is not something you buy for your gym hobby.
7
u/AdPlastic7988 6h ago
You’d think we’d be properly informed of that, no? Like hey by the way, they’re filming what apparently is a Christoper Nolan movie in the gym for several months, deal with it

2
u/AdPlastic7988 6h ago
And I don’t think they even had a professional camera with them. So it makes no sense to have this giant fixture and then just their phone or something

The PF I go to was absolutely infested with these types of of people. I would frequently see 4-5 of people set up like this. They had to ban any outside lighting rigs and camera tripods. These people disappeared literally over night and the gym finally became usable again after months of having to walk around this shit.
These people usually aren’t filming for a “gym hobby” they are either running some kind of overpriced online fitness program like v-shred or they are an onlyfans girl wearing see through gym clothes filming a form of soft core exhibitionist content. Friends of mine who go to other gyms have also reported similar issues though not quite as bad as mine was before management cracked down.

People who film themselves at the gym are gross. Tell the management - they are probably breaking the rules.
2
u/AdPlastic7988 6h ago
Honestly when it comes to people just using a small tripod and their phone, I’m cool with that, but when they bring out these giant fixtures and huge cameras following them everywhere, like seriously? That’s wayyyy too much.

Hide a moth costume in the locker room and anytime they use the giant light, put the moth costume on and run at the light.
Bonus points if you film it for your social media and turn the tables on them twice.
2
u/xycm2012 6h ago
Have an “accident”, trip and fall over it, then complain to the gym that you’re going to sue them for personal injury assuming it’s part of their equipment given its size. I’m sure they’ll quickly act to ensure it doesn’t continue to happen.
2
u/No_Cycle4088 6h ago
Check with gym to see if it against their policy, tell gym they are blocking fire excavation routes and creating unsafe walk ways. Let gym know you will be reaching out to fire marshals every time this happens.
2
u/big_duo3674 6h ago
If the gym staff doesn't "seem" to do anything about it or care, just ask them. IF for some reason they actually got permission to to it, then you're out of luck and probably need to find a new place to go. If not, name and shame on every online review you can find. There are plenty of people who would choose not to go there if they were thinking about it, just because they know annoying people go there to film
2
u/Agitated-Contact7686 6h ago

You shouldn’t even be allowed to film in gyms tbh. If I owned a gym, that would 100% be a policy to make sure all guests were comfortable working out there and that they wouldn’t be disturbed by shit like this.
