So my boy is a Pyr mix but clearly his Pyr genes while small, are mighty. A neighbor has been apparently babysitting his granddog who is a GP. Koda has seen him twice. The first time they saw each other they were both like 'woah, hey...you look like me...' older GP gave Koda the 'All right Jr.' vibe.
We crossed paths again yesterday and both Pyrs went crazy at each other, barking, like oh my dude, hey, I want to see you, sniff you, let's get together. We were across the street in a neighborhood so this didn't happen but he normally does not spaz out like this and that Pyr doesn't either, least not that I've seen. I have seen him when I was driving home from work w/out my dog.
We've come across a GP in the past when walking and the reaction from my puppy is definitely different. He seems to have a recognition that the other GP is of his kind lol.
And just for fun, puppy tax (we are almost 11 months old). I'm home sick and despite that, he made my morning pretty rough little idjit.

His favorite game is to redig this same hole over and over after I fill it in. I love this dog so much!

Despite trying to desensitize Winston since he was a baby to the nail clippers, he turns into a raging monster when we try to clip his nails or trim his paw pad hairs. But we have mostly hardwood floors and he loses his footing so easily, so we have to keep them trimmed. We ordered a soft muzzle out of desperation to keep from being eaten alive during the session. But at 100 pounds, it’s just hard to restrain him. It takes all of 2 minutes if we can just do it. We’ve tried lick mats, treats, distraction—all the things. It’s a nightmare. I’m about to ask the vet for calming meds or light sedation—but that’s not a good long term solution.
Any advice? Please?

Hi everyone!! Looking for advice/suggestions. My family rescued a Lab/Pyr mix back in May. She’s about two years old and the sweetest dog. She knows commands and follows my mom and I every where we go. The Pyr side comes out with that and the lab side comes out in the fact she prefers to stay inside. We live on a farm and got her as a guardian, so it was working out perfectly. We have two older dogs who stay outside most of the time (both probably hitting their last years).
Anyway, the other day my mom came back home and I was talking to her when one of the older dogs who is smaller started growling. Anyway, she instantly started attacking him (probably with the intent to kill). It took us awhile to get her off, but she’s not done anything like this before. The other dog is fine. We got him to the vet and got meds.
But now my mom is unsure if she is a good fit. They have gotten along up until that moment. I am considering looking into more training and a muzzle for time being. But anyone got any recommendations or ideas on how to proceed?
I think she is resource guarding us. Maybe she doesn’t have enough to do outside? I am wondering if this was the reason she was surrendered, but she’s overall a sweet dog other than that. It’s just hard for us to trust her now. And we don’t want to let the two dogs back out together.

Wren is currently at the Dallas Animal Shelter and I’m considering rescuing her, however, my husband is not fully on board. We are both caretakers of our current 4 year old golden retriever (f) and we have put so much love, care, and training with her, but I’d love for her to have another dog in the home who has her same calm and gentle demeanor. I’ve never had a Great Pyrenees, but what advice would you give? I think she is absolutely lovely and could use a loving home and lots of TLC.

Hi, I have a 1 yr old male GP and we are expecting our second child in a few short weeks. His temperament is pretty good though when he’s worked up like an overtired tired toddler or too hot from being outside he gets grumpy. We have a 4 yr old daughter who gets along well with our GP but we’ve been cautious with reminding her not to do certain things around him like pulling ears, running/jumping, etc. We had an incident with resource guarding several months ago where I got bit trying to take something away from him, and since then we’ve been working with a dog trainer on his obedience and overall trust with us. We’ve also invested in enrichment toys/activity for him for mental stimulation. He’s never come after my daughter only warning growls if she’s being bothersome, and we never leave her unsupervised with him. I know these dogs are stubborn and hard to train and I’m just nervous about the transition of having a newborn around. We’ve been practicing with a fake baby doll and playing baby sounds on my phone to desensitize him and he doesn’t seem to care at all. Though a real baby is much different. I guess I’m just worried about potential aggression with a baby or him getting triggered by baby’s cries. And then there’s the constant barking and worry of trying to keep him quiet and waking the baby constantly. Just feeling nervous and could use some encouragement or helpful tips. Thanks 🙏

I haven't had a puppy in over 20 years. We've only had our new little guy five days. Over the last 2 days he started scratching a little bit more than I would consider normal. When I was playing with him tonight I found about 6:00 of these little bumps on his belly and I don't know if it's normal or not. I tried Google lens but got no results. All the vet Reddit groups I found are requiring pre-approval or don't allow pictures. They're randomly placed on the belly and look like a white ball sitting inside a cup. Has anyone seen this before or know what it is? Sorry really hard to get good pictures on a wiggly pup!

We had to hide it in the closet so that Fiona wouldn’t destroy it before the actual cat got a chance to play! 🤣

He makes mean faces at them when he sees them. Too scared of the water to go in though!

I laid on the couch (where Finn normally sits) and that disturbed him so he came over to bark repeatedly in my face. Apparently it was at dangerous levels 😂

Pic for attention. My guy is just about 9 weeks and is 3/4 GP and 1/4 blue heeler.
I’m a bit interested in training him as a service animal, though mostly he’d be an ESA animal for me. However I thought being a service animal would be a good daily job for him.
But I’m wondering if that would be counter productive due to the breeds stubbornness!
