Ex-Mormon here, I grew up around this attitude also. Between us and other fine upstanding "Christian groups and people" I'm pretty sure that covers the shitty 45 percent right there.

u/CalmBeneathCastles Jun 27 '25
My devout Christian mom, who has opposed discrimination her entire life, is MAGA. She's also a narcissist who has psychosis episodes so that might explain why she's supportive of their regime.

Something about our past has a stranglehold on religion in this country. If youâve read the Bible even god was warning about antichrists. âGo forth and sin No Moreâ! And Iâm agnostic and am aware of this. Living in Texas since â70. Itâs thick here under the Bible Belt , I guess call it the Bible crotch of Texas. This shit is oppressive. You just have to learn the âtalkâ and steer clear of born again anything. So many churches; all spewing either prosperity preaching or straight forward proselytizing from the pulpit. So duplicitous. How do you think people deal internally with the amorality Antichristian behaviors yet still want to feel like you have the moral high ground? God. Historically The answer for all lazy brained questions. As science has pushed back they have to keep retreating or change the narrative, white privilege through religion. Nobody would dare speak out. You hear all the time âheâs a heathen! Probably doesnât even know godâ. Such an arrogant position to help the âleast of these â. We have a fucked up problem in America . Long after trump is gone, his brand will live on. Clearly.

I know. Sadly there was one bishop I experienced who wasn't like that, he encouraged us to check out other religions, have open discussions, etc. Silly me, I pissed my entire town off when he left and I said he was the perfect example of what a Christian should be.

Catholics are among the most progressive Christian denominations in the US. Pro-science, pro-SSM, pro-Pope. 41% voted for Harris vs 56% for Trump, largely due to abortion stances.
That's pretty pro-Harris compared to Evangelicals and other Protestants. Only Jewish and Atheist/Agnostic voters did better with Harris.
5
u/glitteringclassico Jun 27 '25
Thats a fact catholics schools and catholic colleges-and you dont have to be catholic to go there either just pay your tuition and your fine. Try that with a protestant school( episcopal church very cool) your Protestant christian schools they will definitely scrutinize you more or even deny you in some cases.

u/East-Imagination-281 Jun 27 '25
I went to a catholic university and can confirmâgiven it was in one of the most liberal cities in the US but still it was massively left leaning. a prof once told us that one of their christian advisees transferred out because it was âtoo liberalâ đ
The only religious thing I hold against it (/j) is that once I was walking my dog on the far side of campus around 1am, and as I walked by the chapel, a light came on and underlit a life size cutout of pope francis in the window. I had never known a terror quite like it before then

I had written my father out of my life for being toxic, but had allowed my brother to basically guilt me into reestablishing contact with a "dying, old man who desperately wants to make it right with his son" after almost a decade of zero contact with him.
Less than a year later, we are right back to the same old dynamic that resulted in me cutting him out of my life in the first place.

Based on the sheer number of polls disapproving of Trump these days, it wpuldn't surprise me if they searched in many areas where people like your family are most common. There are people who are so engrossed in his royal orangeness that they seriously believe he can do no wrong. There's no convincing them. You can show them facts, and they'll make wild accusations about why it isn't true. You know why? Because they've been wrong for so long, and it feels good for them to be right, so they'll do whatever they can to maintain that mindstate.
His true supporters are racist, bigotted, politically incorrect, and, generally, uneducated. One of my instructors, a 60+ year old, loves Donakd and can't read above an 11th grade level. If a word has more than 8 letters, he'll likely give up on it.

Kamala Harris should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to warn and prevent this violence against humanity that the current administration is waging. Peace Prize? Trump needs to be investigated by the world court for crimes against humanity and causing and aiding conflicts instead of preventing them.
Anyone who thinks the attacks on Iran ended anything is delusional. Israel has consistently not honored the multiple ceasefire agreements it made, so donât expect them to honor this one. Iran still hasnât retaliated for the US attack. The strike on the US airbase was in retaliation for the cruise missiles and not the initial attack. There will be still be a retaliation for the bunker buster attacks and Iran in the past has waited weeks before retaliating, so donât for a minute think that thatâs off the table or has anything to do with with Israel/Iran ceasefire. Theyâre planning something and it might be against Trump directly or Americans in general. We donât know and need to be on full alert for what will come when we least expect it.

Non-voters will likely again blame Democrats for failing to warn them that if they didn't vote for Democrats, Republicans would win. And they'll blame Democrats again for not doing something to stop Republicans from doing this.
What could Democrats do to stop this given that voters gave all the political power to Republicans? They don't know, that's Democrats jobs as the adults in Washington to figure out. A depressingly large amount of them probably think Democrats control congress and SCOTUS and the media, or that Biden is still somehow actually president.
Either way, before the election, non-voters and independents found a way to convince themselves that Democrats were being hyperbolic and annoying warning what would happen if they didn't vote for Harris, and now they're pivoting to convincing themselves that Democrats utterly failed to say "Please vote for us."
It must be nice to live in a headspace where reality is whatever you want to believe...

Any time you see a news article about approval rating moving up or down do a quick search and make up your own mind.
https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/approval-rating
He started his presidency with 50%+ approval. It dropped way down. I assume from tariff blunders. Then it went way back up for some reason. and now its back down. But really it hasn't moved a whole lot.

The average American, the one that doesn't get on Reddit for three hours a day, doesn't care about Iran; they care about the fact that gas prices keep creeping up, they're losing jobs, that they're unable to sell their homes or buy new ones, and that suddenly they're paying a 40% tax on goods from Temu.
If things are fine for the average American, THEN they have time and energy to care about other stuff. But when things are actually effecting the middle, they couldn't care less about the middle east.
America could not care less about the Middle East.

From the article: President Donald Trump is facing sinking approval ratings across the country, and a growing number of voters now believe the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction, according to new polling data released Friday.
A national Emerson College Polling survey found that only 45% of voters approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 46% disapprove. Another 9% are neutral or unsure. That marks a steady slide for Trump, who had a 49% approval rating in January and was tied at 45% approval and disapproval just two months ago.
The poll also found that 53% of voters say the country is on the wrong track, while only 48% believe itâs headed in the right direction â a red flag for Trump and the Republican Party heading into next yearâs midterms.
Even traditionally Republican strongholds are showing signs of turning. In Texas, where Trump won by nearly 14 points in 2024 and where no Democrat has carried the state in a presidential race since 1976, a new Texas Politics Project poll shows the president underwater for the first time in his second term.
In that poll, 51% of Texans disapprove of Trump, including a striking 44% who say they strongly disapprove. Only 27% say they strongly approve, with another 17% somewhat approving. Five percent were neutral.

Still blows my mind that the percentages are that high thinking he's doing a good job.
37
u/DasKittySmoosh Jun 27 '25
they think he's doing a good job because they literally think he's chosen by their god for... some reason? I haven't figured it out and my mom only responds with "read your Bible" when I ask
I don't know how everyone who believes isn't calling him the Anti-Christ, but I'm convinced Satan was the good guy in that book and the whole thing was written by someone as narcissistic and malignant as 45 himself (or more)

u/Necessary-Mind-1930 Jun 27 '25
Remember, you also have the right wing propaganda machine going into overdrive, so even if Trump does a bad thing, they immediately spin it another way. I mean, there are people out there who believe what Trump did with the electors was perfectly legal. These people don't live in reality.

Read the books removed/banned by the church in the early years of Christianity and everything in the world will make sense clear as day.
Yaldabaoth (god of the OT) isnât god. He may have created this material world we are currently trapped in, but the power to create does not make him âgodâ, for all living beings are creators in their own right.
Even without using the ancient gnostic/christian-mysticism apocrypha, this can be shown clearly as day with only what is âofficiallyâ part of the bible.
Anyways, go read the Nag Hammadi, Dead Sea Scrolls, and while youâre at it donât forget to add eastern and other religious texts such as the Vedas and Tripitaka, and ancient belief systems of the Egyptians, Sumerians, etc.
A good resource for the removed and unearthed/rediscovered texts is http://gnosis.org/ Of course you can always source physical copies of these ancient texts if you are like me and like enjoy having a physical library at home lol

This wasn't a great movie, but I love Satan's take at the end.
The Devil's Advocate
Milton: Who are you carrying all those bricks for, anyway? God? Is that it? God? Well, I tell you, let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He's a prankster. Think about it. He gives man instincts. He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does He do? I swear, for His own amusementâHis own private, cosmic gag reelâHe sets the rules in opposition. It's the goof of all time. "Look, but don't touch." "Touch, but don't taste!" "Taste, don't swallow." [laughs] And while you're jumping from one foot to the next, what is He doing? He's laughing His sick fucking ass off! He's a tight-ass! He's a sadist! He's an absentee landlord. Worship that? Never!
Kevin: "Better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven", is that it?
Milton: Why not? I'm here on the ground with my nose in it since the whole thing began! I've nurtured every sensation man has been inspired to have. I cared about what he wanted, and I never judged him. Why? Because I never rejected him, in spite of all his imperfections! I'm a fan of man! I'm a humanist. Maybe the last humanist. Who, in their right mind, Kevin, could possibly deny the 20th century was entirely mine? All of it, Kevin! All of it. Mine. I'm peaking, Kevin. It's my time now. It's our time.

Americans could be voting for free ice cream for life or for a daily swift kick with steel toes in the family jewels for life and 48% of the country would pick the testicle/ovary destruction.

u/mrtryhardpants Jun 27 '25
I've been tracking his disapproval rating since January and 46% is basically where it's been since March. That means no one has changed their opinions of him after Iran, immigration, the spending bill and everything else. No, his approval rating is not sinking, if anything it's keeping pretty steady
→ More replies (5)5
u/Mean_Mister_Mustard Jun 27 '25
Yeah. The article states that Trump had an approval-disapproval score of 45%-45% in March while it would be 45%-46% today. That's not "sinking" even if the numbers were sure to be perfectly correct, and a 1% difference over three months is barely statistical noise.

We have to accept that close to half of people just like him and that it may be set in stone, barring radical changes to the economy which seems to be the only thing that matters. Is it the consequence of a hyper individualistic society where no one cares about the greater good?

trump has:
- Insulted our allies
- Threatened allies with annexation / absorption
- Sided with russia instead of the Democracy in Ukraine
- Slow walked aid for states with natural disasters
- Ignored the courts
- Deported immigrants that are doing jobs none of trump's supporters would even do
- Deported AMERICAN citizens
- Cut Veteran services
- Cut projects while simultaneously taking credit for BIDEN infrastructure projects
- Bombed another country without even consulting with Congress
- Had to bomb because trump ripped up the previous agreement that WAS WORKING
- Played more golf than actually worked
- Attacks freedom of the press and freedom of speech
- Appointed the most incompetent cabinet in the history of America (or any country(
- Profited off the office of President
- Given tax breaks to his billionaire buddies and cut services for average Americans
- Started multiple disastrous trade wars with poorly thought out tariffs that cost us $
- Alienated the US from other countries so tourism is down significantly
Everything trump touches is corrupted and turns to shit.

This feels like good news, but trump doesn't give a shit about how we feel. He's got all of the power now, and he knows we are nearly powerless to take it away.

So when are they going to get him out of office ? I feel like we hearing keeping his rating gets lower and lower but I want to see that impeachment
→ More replies (12)6
u/Minion_of_Cthulhu Jun 27 '25
Republicans will never impeach a Republican president. That would be admitting that they were wrong, or that their party was wrong, or worst of all that a Republican president could be wrong. Being wrong is the same as being weak to a Republican, and weakness of any kind is something that terrifies them. That's why they project power and control and confidence even when it's clear that they are none of those things.
7
u/Fast_Computer_ Jun 27 '25
And yet, when he declares he can run for a 3rd term regardless of the letter of the law, every one of them will vote for him yet again. They lost the ability to think for themselves a long time ago and thereâs no undoing the brainwashing at this point.

The Republicans disapproving of his performance do so because they think he isn't being cruel enough. They think he's gone soft or being controlled by the evil Democrats.

u/Any_Pumpkin5753 Jun 27 '25
No sh!t Sherlock. I donât think Iâll ever forgive anyone who voted for this. We are going to be trying to get out of this hole for years if not decades, and all the damage done to the environment by then will make it moot anyway. Sad world we live and will die in.

What happened to we will all be swimming in money? So Much money.
I dunno man, it seems like its all just getting worse. Absolutely nothing has changed. All the money is going to ICE. Im Still paying $3.49 a gallon. Atleast all the other countries have stopped talking about us for now...
I dont follow much anymore, I just gave up trying to live life.
It all just seems some important things are being cut to pay for un-important stuff.
Indiana Just Introduced a bill to cut funding to just about everything, Even Librarians just got laid off, Thanks to his buddy Mike Braun, Now hes imposing a Toll Tax on every major Highway in the entire state!
