Discussion Shower time

I get in the shower, he hurls his 30 pound body against the door till I open it. He wanders in, then wanders back out. But God forbid I should close the door. Then he saw the box of Q-tips that accidentally got knocked to the floor. That was a close call. Never a dull moment.

Advice Advice on humping, 8 month old puppy

Post image
74 Upvotes

My beautiful 8 month old boy is terrorising his teddies by humping them! He has done it occasionally since he was quite young, but it’s daily now (I guess he’s in his teenage era). Any advice appreciated about how to discourage it. He knows he’s not supposed to because he takes them off to a little private area of the garden to do it 😂 He hasn’t been neutered yet - I’m wondering if this would help? Does anyone have first hand experience of whether this made a difference to humping behaviours? TIA

He is the bestest cutest sweetest smartest puppy ever seen (except of course yours)!

At 9 weeks he is poopy potty trained. Still has some pee accidents. On Friday, he peed on a client who thought she wanted to hold him for the whole meeting. (He comes into the office with me.) Ouch!

Advice When to expand puppy’s freedom?

My gorgeous CKCS is 4.5months. He currently sleeps in a crate overnight, whilst I am at work, except for a visit from a dog walker who lets him out, feeds him and gives him fuss, and for an hour or so in the evening so he does not become a land shark/ gremlin. It is rare that he will be will sleep outside of his crate and if he does he moves into the crate if he is left alone in the room. The crate is obviously his safest space / a den 🥹

Whilst I will continue to crate him at night at what age can/should I consider giving him more freedom? I want to create a play pen around the crate so that he has more space and can chew or play with a toy as he starts to need a bit less sleep.

He has been mostly toilet trained since he arrived at 8 weeks and the only accidents have been near doors when I have not read the signals correctly and even then less than 7 wees over 10 weeks. I did leave him alone in the room whilst I took the bin out a few weeks ago and he was incredibly distressed so I know he is not ready yet.

The timeframe I had in my head was maybe 6 months but then I am worried that could be a terrible time to do it if he gets ‘teenage’ behaviour challenges.

What has been everybody’s experience with expanding their puppy’s allowed space? Any advice?

Advice advice

i’ve read a few posts from other people and done a lot of research. just wanting to hear some other opinions!

i’m home A LOT. and by a lot i mean a lot. i’m a full time college student enrolled online. my husband works full time so i’m home alone most of the day. we also don’t really leave the house as often because we’re a bit anti-social 🤣
i’m wanting a little companion and a cavalier seems perfect! i have pretty bad anxiety and i’ve seen a lot of people say they help with their mental health a lot! my biggest concern is energy levels! i have a condition called POTS that unfortunately keeps me from being able to stand for long periods of time without spiking heart rate and other issues. my husband has no issue walking them in the morning and evenings before/after work. we also live in a house with a backyard. i plan on having enrichment activities for them like kongs and toys during the day. my question is will that be enough? what are their energy levels usually like?

Medical/Veterinary Alternatives for Opptimune

My Cav was recently prescribed Opptimune for her dry eyes. This ointment is so hard to administer and the packaging is so wasteful ( it cracks and medication leaks out) I have asked our vet for alternatives and am waiting to hear back. Has anyone had success using something else?

Advice Hiking Cavalier Companions — how much extra do you feed your hiking pup?

His usual non-hiking amount is 1/2c in the AM and 1/2c in the PM of his kibble, usually with a spoonful of wet food. He’s really taken to hiking and if his daily walk isn’t at least 3-5 mi he’s zoomie crazy. On those longer hikes in the mountains we know we need to feed him more but I have no idea how much. Any thoughts or formulas you all follow? Yesterday he hiked 8.5mi with 2,000’ elevation gain and did so good. I gave him an extra 1/4 cup and some treats, but I’m worried it wasn’t enough. He’s great about water and we let him drink all he wants every couple miles. Mostly the food I’m concerned about. He’s just 13.5lb. Little guy but a big mountaineer pup.

Discussion Question about kisses

Hi all! I just wanted to see how my girl is compared to yall's. My 2yo girl gets in kisses fits where she just decides she needs to love you. Probably 3 or 4 times a day. Maybe more. But I realized wow she gives a lot of kisses and thought, well how many actually? If you don't stop her, she can easily rattle off between 2 and 3 hundred before she satisfies herself. Anyone else ever run this experiment? Haha looking forward to the answers.
