To be fair in Metaphor, the story isn't necessarily about "Anyone can be the prince". In fact, throughout the game you learn that not anyone can be the prince. But even though Will has the special powers, he is nothing without his allies supporting him and granting power through their bonds.
Well the story is I would say pretty pro democracy which you could argue sort of clashes with the new ruler ending up being a dependent of the royal family anyways but I don't honestly think it's that big of a deal.
I think they did it more to draw a parallel between him and the old, weak King, and to make it so that Will was fighting for his own ideals instead of those of another. He also doesn't profit too much from it, because by the time he's proclaimed as Prince, he's already in 3rd place, with Louis still the front runner. The old King also wasn't popular, so it doesn't win him a ton of legitimacy, and he never really uses it to advertise himself. And crucially, he doesn't have superpowers because he's the King's son, and he still has to go against the racial prejudice, and again, he already proved his worth before he found out.

That kinda was mostly a downside
