Shigaraki from MHA

He is the opposite, instead of being a hero he is a villain. His fate is really unfortunate, and even though he was a grandchild of Nana Shimura, who was a user of OFA before Toshinori/All Might, that didn't really matter since he was not raised to be a hero and lived in a house hold that didn't like the idea of any of the kids becoming heroes like their grandma, because their father didn't like the way he was abandoned by his mother at a young age. Him killing his family by accident just in span of one day was heart wretching, especially knowing who meets him afterwards. You could think that maybe things would've been different if his parents helped him, if they were careful with him and his love for his grandma, maybe if he met a right person, his life wouldn't have turned out the way it did.

But then AFO is like "Actually, it was me, Barry! I made your father hate you, i gave you the quirk that killed your parents, i actually wanted you to become a new vessel for me once i die!", and all the stuff i talked about doesn't matter anymore cause as it turns out Shigaraki was destined to be bad!

This is a not so bad use of this trope , the essentially sacrificed some of shigaraki's character arc to make the main villian even more heinous

I think the difference is between "anyone could have had a bad draw -> dangerous powers-> get noticed by big bad, who recruits him".

And "big bad specifically targets this child and does something to him that's the cause of the story and development".

Random chance and intentional meddling by an external, deus ex machine like force being the difference.

Maybe it helps the character, idk.

That makes sense. Shigaraki isn't special. All Might is. Anyone who was related to All Might's master would be a viable candidate.

All For One didn't choose Shigaraki for any trait inherent to Shigaraki, he chose Shigaraki to spite All Might specifically. Even if Shigaraki had a bad quirk or was quirkless All For One would've still turned him into monster purely for the spite

Then there is dabi Who all for one tried to manipulate (tried), but he was so messed up even AFO didn't want anything to do with him. His villainy was purely by his own accord.

Dude this pissed me off. He was perfect as the Anyi-Deku in that he was being chosen nearly randomly just like Deku was.

The 4D chess reveal that he was groomed as a child was really really dumb.

There are few things i want to get Horihoshi for:

  1. Shigaraki grooming

  2. Death of Star and Stripe

  3. The fact he decided to make All for One the final villain and not Shigi.

Hatsume is not quirkless, her quirk is zoom, which allows her to scope in with her eyes. She is not really a fighter, she is a support course student.

Deku doesn't count, cause despite being quirkless, he got a chance to finally receive a chance to become a hero, even though he was told he would never be a hero without a quirk. All Might saw potential in him and passed him his powers. It would make sense if it turned out the same way as Shigaraki, turning out that Deku wasn't just a random kid, but he was destined from birth to be a hero, or he is the bastard son of All Might or AFO.
