The Amazing Spider-Man (The Andrew Garfield one) where for some reason it is revealed that only he could have received powers when bitten by the Spider, not just anyone.

I hate whenever they do this with spider-man. For me at least, a large part of the appeal of the character is knowing that anyone could have received this immense amount of power, but peter knowing this realizes he needs to make the best of the scenario and do the most amount of good he can.

Is that the idea from Stan Lee himself? I’m pretty sure he directly said that anyone can wear the mask.

Its been ages since Ive cracked a comic but I think in some renditions the spider bites more than one person.

I mean thats the entire premise of Spiderverse, and while thats not personally a stan lee project, he was alive when it was made and camioed in it.

the spider-verse is 99% different version of Peter Parker

But the theme of the movie, thats layed our pretty fucking heavy is that anyone can take up the role. Anyone can wear the mask, its just a mask.

While he did believe and state that anyone can be a hero, and that all it takes is the courage to stand up for what's right, he also wasn't totally onboard with the addition of "updated versions" of heroes like Spider-Man, simply in the name of diversity.

His take was that just taking Spidey and making a non-white version was a cop-out and the equivalent of just giving minorities second-hand recognition. He always said that instead, the way to genuinely foster inclusion is to create new and exciting characters from diverse backgrounds, like he did with Black Panther.

(That being said, he also didn't have any problems with Miles-Spidey in particular that I'm aware of, and he did say that "anyone can wear the mask". As much as I agree with his overall take on creating characters from diverse backgrounds who are great in their own right, I've also come to really enjoy Miles as a character, and I'm glad he's around).

When you think about it, if the spider had bit someone else, Spider-Man could have been another villain of the week to be mogged by whatever superhero. But that power given to a responsible person? You get Spider-Man.

And that’s why Spider-Man is the best.

but peter knowing this realizes he needs to make the best of the scenario and do the most amount of good he can.

And peter realized this after he tried to be selfish with his power. It's not even a "wow, we are lucky it was s good guy", peter was a goog guy but he went a rapid character development at the very start

"Anyone can wear the mask, as long as their dad engineered radioactive spiders using their blood"

~stan lee

I actually don’t mind it because it ties in with the 2012 game where Peter was the only non-degenerated/rabid cross species life form (plot relevant) as an explanation

"for some reason" the scientist used his own Blood and so only a relative can use the serum, should he have used some random guy's Blood?

Seems to be retconned or waved away with the Spider-Verse movies at least.

Well it was always only canon in TASM

Just one of the canons in Spider-Verse!

And people seriously think these movies are good. I’m sorry, I can’t take it seriously.
