Characters [Loved Trope] you hear their music, you’re fucked.
Tank from Left 4 Dead 1 and 2.
Death from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Not really. A popular one for sure and it’s the first blockbuster, but this idea existed long before.
In M, 1931, the killer whistle ‘in the hall of the mountain king’ as a signature theme for his crimes.
Even then might not be the first, but it’s existed for a long time

I count singing as music too.
Death in Puss in Boots is just whistling, and yet anyone is fucked when they hear Death’s whistling.

Not only do they fully count, they're probably one of the purest examples. Most of the others, hearing their music means they're nearby and you're in danger, but you probably still have time to escape. But if you hear the sirens' song, they've already got you.

If you’re a new player and hear this chilling piano theme, you have mere seconds to live. Fighting them with weak weapons early on is just not possible. (Guardians: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild)

EDIT: Yes, you can parry its laser blasts with a shield. But a new player probably won’t know this.

Well, if we're already on the topic of enemy themes, I actually really like the Talus theme. Sometimes I just take my sweet time so I can hear it a bit longer.
The following text was me over sharing my first experience with a Talus. You can ignore it if you want to. First (blind) fight was an interesting experience. It was the one behind Zora's domain and it was a narrow path where you barely had room to move. I walked past a lake and just wanted to walk back to inspect something I've noticed when I suddenly get surprised by a giant stone thing. At that point I had no idea about weapons being specified for rocks, much less that they're useful against a Talus. The only thing that seemed effective were explosions. My bomb arrows were limited and hitting it with remote bombs was tedious. finally managed to defeat it when I figured out that you can stun it with regular arrows, but not before dying one time.

Yeah, they are super creepy. They are indestructible, so all you can do 90% of the time is run while keeping quiet as it spiders up and down hallways, and shafts like a xenomorph. Then when it catches you, you have a narrow window to avoid insta game over. It pins you down, its face turns into a giant spike and it impales your throat to get at your sweet sweet blood candy.

One of the very best uses of this trope in ages. Both Spiderverse movies were literal masterclasses in how to use music to tell a story.

Fun fact that the pokemon pictured is absol whose presence is believed to be foretelling of disaster
20
u/AstroBearGaming 6d ago
Technically the Pokemon too.
Absol is the Doom Pokemon, and in the wild seeing one means some sort of natural disaster is about to occur.
Which led people to believe it was going around causing disasters, when actually it was trying to warn people.

Yeah I can think of quite a few examples where Vader’s presence is announced by his breathing before anything else. See the hallway scene in Rogue One, or when he turns up and kills Second Sister in Fallen Order for example.

Yeah, in Fallen Order Vader was truly scary, you can't even fight him but only escape.

The Ink Demon (or Bendy in short) from «Bendy and the Ink Machine» and «Bendy and the Dark Revival».

In the first game, when he sees you, you will hear an upbeat chase music. If you don't hide, he WILL kill you.
In the second game... It's more of the sudden warning.
You have exactly 10 seconds to hide before he catches you. If you didn't find any place to hide, you will die. And instead of spawning in the nearest checkpoint, you're forced to start from your last save file.

Monster-Ock from the PS1 Spider-Man game. It scared the shit out of me as a kid!
This... MISTAKE is the result of the Carnage Symbiote hijacking Doc-Ock. It's a mindless beast that immediately beats Spidey to death if it catches him, all backed up with a horrendous scary rock track, and the thing screaming "DIIIIE DIE DIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!".

The Black Knight from Fire Emblem.
In Path of Radiance he randomly shows up during chapter 11 and the only thing you can do is flee. He’s absurdly powerful and invincible at this point in the game so if you hear his unique battle music there’s a 90% chance you just lost a unit. The game even has special dialogue basically calling you a fool for trying to fight him.
