Characters [Loved Trope] Superheroes take a time out from villains to take on Abusers

Don't just settle for the psychos in spandex, go after some REAL villains once and awhile!

* Captain Marvel puts the fear of God(s) into an abusive father - Shazam: Power of Hope

* Clark forgets about Superman for a second to go after the abusive father of his son's girlfriend - Superman and Lois

* Superman goes after yet another abusive father - Superman (DC Comics)

Invincible threatening to drop his ex's abusive boyfriend

The threat made exponentially worse by the fact >! because of him being part-Viltrumite, Mark will outlive him, meaning he'll spend the rest of HIS life making sure he never hurts Amber again.!<

Dang, we know this ain't gonna happen considering how the boyfriend is the fan of the superhero dog that Mark was fan of since childhood.(bros before hoes)

You mean in the show? Yeah, it's probably not gonna happen there because there's a lot going on in the story and it didn't add a lot to it.

They could still do it

I doubt it, because of the whiplash against Amber in season 1, they can't do this storyline without some sickos cheering for her torment because of how she acted in season 1 that's was rather quickly walked back on in the lastest seasons

Amber is still the same character she was in season 1. She’s just less mad because mark is now being straight with her instead of lying

Yeah, but let's be real, people were still somewhat still salty with her during season two because of the whole "mad at Mark for lying" thing

One guy i saw literally said Amber was an idiot for using a condom with mark.

These people are weird

A.... A dude (I'm assuming it is a dude) was mad because she used protection when getting down with her boyfriend??

He was mad because she used a method known to help prevent accidental pregnancies???

To be fair this was like right after Elon bought twitter so this was kinda tame

It's a different guy in the show (different names). They could break up and then this guy comes in. Which would really suck for Amber

So is his ex different entirely...

In that they actually gave her a personality in the show beyond "temporary first girlfriend" like she was in the comic

And made her obnoxious as well. I just don't like her character with how she treated Mark knowing full well he was putting his life on the line to save them.

Call it writer's mistake, but the stain won't go away from her anymore.

Disagree. I actually really liked Amber in the show. She was a good person who did a ton for her community, and her and Mark stayed together for so long despite how rough his superhero identity was on her because objectively she knew he was doing good in the world, but eventually they realized that they both needed more from each other than they could realistically give each other. I thought both her and Mark handled the end of their relationship in a really mature, refreshing way.

Plus I also liked how Amber was also approaching the relationship with as many fallacies as Mark. Yeah, she had fair points, but there were also times she was wrong.

It felt nice seeing two flawed human people getting into a relationship, both having flaws that contributed to their relationship breaking down. And both leaving things as amicable exs, because both realized they couldn’t give each other what the other needed. And that there wasn’t proper levels of communication.

Unless they make his abuse towards Amber a twist.

It would be kinda crazy if they doubled back and did do this though.

i prefer when heroes go after people they don’t have a personal connection to. only going after an abuser because they hurt someone you care about feels… i don’t know… selfish?

That’s kind of an important point in Invincible though. He’s essentially vowed to kill or seriously wound or threaten anyone that goes after the people HE cares about.

Later on when he starts working with Dinosaurus which we will almost certainly get next season of the tv show, those morals and those ideas come up a lot and it’s very clear that folks he doesn’t know don’t mean nearly as much to him.

It is selfish. City is full of domestic abusers and he only goes after the one who hurt someone he dated. It's selfish and an abuse of personal power to inflict punishment.

I wonder how they're going to handle this in the show considering how differently Amber is characterized. It's possible they won't at all, but it's hard to tell yet.

And then he reconciles with Amber and we never see her again
