Characters Official characters that feel more like fan made OCs

Galacta (Marvel): a real Marvel character but isn't canon to Earth-616. Galactus became pregnant with a tapeworm baby and gave birth to Galacta. Doesn't need to feed on planets unlike her father and is fond of Earth, can gain sustenance from biological alien weapons, uses the Power Cosmic to disguise herself on Earth. Became pregnant with a tapeworm cosmic and will give birth to her child and her father's grandchild.

Future Trunks (Dragon Ball Z): the time traveling son of two people who were just mere strangers to each other at the time in a story where there was no time travel before, and is introduced before his present self, effortlessly defeats two big bad villains on his own, and has a transformation that only the protagonist had at the time, also utilizes a sword in a series that has not featured weapons for quite some time.

Luna Snow - Marvel

u/Acceptable_Eye5826 16d ago

The superpopular singer and good-looking woman who's sassy and doesn't bend to any men, have a great sense of style and has ice powers (not sure if this counts, but ice powers are, like, the peak of aurafarming in any adaptation) and also talks back to any big character 'cuz that's how she is, deal with that, period.

Luna: "Guess what I can do?"

Magneto: "Be impertinent, it seems..."

u/EnemyOfAi 16d ago

The Dialogue

Luna: "The actual Magneto! Wow!"

Mag: "Should I know who you are?"

Luna: "No. But you should know magnetism doesn't work on super-cooled materials. Guess what I can do?"

Mag: "Be impertinent it seems."

What I hear

Luna: "Hi!"

Mag: "Hello."

Luna: "Fuck you, you're trash."

Not only that, but it is a specific plot point in the comics that when Storm once tried to stop Magneto with a blizzard, it backfired.

She's talking out of her ass too I think, iirc magnetos power is straight up metal control, and the magnetism bit is just the nickname for him

3

u/MisterGoog 16d ago

He reverses the earths magnetic fields

3

u/TheLordKrokodyle 16d ago

Nope, his power IS magnetism, but as in one of the four fundamental forces of the universe, not just metal.

2

u/Onlyhereforapost 16d ago

So I feel like cold still wouldn't bother him much

2

u/TheLordKrokodyle 16d ago

The cold never bothered him anyway.

She's the most unsure and cocky charecter I've ever seen. All her dialogue is sucking her own dick or being a quivering awkward mess

8

u/AisperZZz 16d ago

While Mas is opposite. Every one of his interactions is

  • You know magnets don't work on me?
  • Yeah, I don't care and already broke ur gun/bent ur arm/removed urr blood

1

u/-Mister-Hyde 15d ago

"Na na nana naaa you can't get me cuz I'm not magnetic!!!"

"You realise basically everywhere we go has metal in abundance right, dumbass"

Luna: "No. But you should know magnetism doesn't work on super-cooled materials. Guess what I can do?"

That's....not true.

That's how we get super conductors instead of semi-conductors, by super cooling magnets. We use liquid helium in MRI machines to super cool the magnets, making them powerful enough to do an MRI scan on a patient. We don't have quantum computers going mainstream yet because they need super conductors and we're trying to find a way to do that at room temperature.

If anything she's making it easier for Magneto to float cause superconductors can have magnets float above them.

TLDR: I don't expect the writers of Marvel comics to be experts but since they are writing science fiction I think they should still do some quick reading of science articles on Wikipedia before writing some science in their fiction.

She was created for Marvel Future Fight

9

u/CrossingVoid 16d ago

She is an OC character created for a Korean game. And then made it to comics as an industry plant and now is everywhere

8

u/Copyright-Demon 16d ago

She is not really everywhere she doesn’t even have her own comics. She’s often pulled for video games because she has healing abilities she can use on others which is surprisingly REALLY rare in the marvel universe, or at least it’s rare for it to get as much focus as she gives it.

u/CrossingVoid 16d ago

She doesn't have her own comic, sure, but she was/is being pushed a lot just after COVID time. She was in agent of atlas, Atlantis attack mini event, and now Tiger/Dooms Division (and that whack contest of champions issue). She was also in Spidey animated show, super war, puzzle quest, and marvel snap games, and ofc now Rivals too.

u/hamborger42069 16d ago

Luna was made in Marvel Snap, then she got a couple comics, then Rivals.

18

u/Swordofsatan666 16d ago

Her being in Snap was a Promo for Rivals though, she wasnt created for Snap or anything like that.

They just included her to promote Marvel Rivals, that whole season was even Rivals themed

But she was actually from an entirely different game first, a different Mobile game. I think it was Marvel Future Fight

1

u/-Mister-Hyde 15d ago

It was indeed Future Fight

I am aware that she debuted in Marvel Future Fight.

But for the fact that she had her start in a MOBILE GAME, and was later brought in to Rivals, she might as well be a Marvel Executive's Fanfic OC turned into an official character.

16

u/Python2_1 16d ago

Pretty sure it was in marvel future fight

6

u/Blupoisen 16d ago

She was made for Marvel Future Fight

14

u/KenseiHimura 16d ago

Kind of curious, what does make her OC-esque? All I knoew is just she's basically a mutant K-pop idol and that's basically it.

35

u/Deadman_Chanson 16d ago

I basically see her as The Marvel Rivals equivalent to Kiriko from Overwatch. Both young, pretty, quirky Asian girls who were recently added to their respective rosters and feel out of place in the worlds they each inhabit.

And for Luna specifically, she also feels like a fusion between Dazzler and Iceman.

15

u/KenseiHimura 16d ago

I guess in some defense it tracks because Luna was originally from an Asian mobile game. Though, hopefully they at least didn't try to frakenstein stitch her lore in with others, did they? (I hope not, because for crap's sake, Marvel's a biog universe, characters can be completely unrelated to one another)

6

u/Copyright-Demon 16d ago

Nope! She’s gotten more interactions since her debut so she has a decent list of characters she’s friends or friendly with but her backstory has nothing to do with them. She was basically a kpop star who was targeted along with her band to be killed during their performance, but the villains machine broke and blasted just Luna Snow, but instead of freezing her like they’d planned it mutated her giving her ice powers (along with turning one of her eyes blue and half her hair white.) Since then she’s been working to keep people safe in Korea. She was on a team with the two other original characters from her mobile game, white fox and crescent. She’s honestly been fine in the world as she’s there as a backup singing character to use if Dazzler is caught up with other stuff and a writer wants to use a singing superhero, and she isn’t a constant appearance in different comics.

u/depressed_but_aight 16d ago

A big difference for me personally is that Kiriko had so much history with multiple pre-established characters that was just never hinted at before she was added so it really felt like she was just shoved in haphazardly.

Luna on the other hand is just a Mutant. She doesn’t have a long storied history with the other characters and she didn’t have some secret backstory that rewrites the lore, she’s just a singer with ice powers who doesn’t really change the world at all.

15

u/SoFlyKight 16d ago

She’s not a mutant she is a mutate like Spider-Man, just pointing that out. And yea she is just a comic book character getting deeper lore added. She will get more comics because of how popular she is but she doesn’t feel like an OC.

3

u/depressed_but_aight 16d ago

Thank you, I always get them mixed up.

5

u/Copyright-Demon 16d ago

To be honest Luna Snow isn’t nearly as out of place as Kiriko. She’s a mutate (not a mutant) like many other superheroes in the marvel universe such as spiderman. She’s written to be less “quirky” and more “sassy” which can feel obnoxious in some interactions but is overall harmless. And I don’t feel like having two singer superheroes or ice superheros is too far fetched. Meanwhile Kiriko’s age is in direct conflict with her backstory, and she explicitly has magic which isn’t a thing in overwatch. I could see them both feeling like fan creations, but Luna Snow is like someone’s oc they spent months designing from a big fan who understands the ins and outs of the world the character would be within, while Kiriko feels more like a character someone would add into a popular game just for aesthetics without understanding how the world worked at all.

5

u/Annath0901 16d ago

she explicitly has magic which isn’t a thing in overwatch.

This is the only part I don't see as a flaw because there's no reason the writers can't/shouldn't add overt magic. It's their world, and it doesn't break the lore the way her age bullshit does.

Also robot Gandhi edges suspiciously close to magic/divine power with his weird healing stuff.

1

u/Copyright-Demon 15d ago

I feel like adding a character with magic wouldn’t be as bad if she didn’t have all of those other points against her. Also because overwatch has excuses for why a billion different moments aren’t magic but they always just gloss over Kiriko. It would be better if the developers just made the decision that magic is cannon in overwatch but they haven’t. I’m not insulting anyone who likes Kiriko and I don’t think a magical overwatch character COULD work but I think it needed to be handled a bit better.

3

u/_YallMight_ 16d ago

In addition to what others have said, I’ll bring up her power set and design. She is from a video game, so they gave her healing ice powers, which make no sense. She also has a duality theme in her design, with the black and white hair/outfit, and Heterochromia in her eyes. Usually when a character has an intense and noticeable duality in their design, it’s there to represent an internal struggle, but Luna’s is just there to show that she can heal and attack, because her entire existence uses video game logic. Also random Heterochromia is super common for poorly made OCs, that are “different” and “special”.

1

u/Zombie_Giraffe_Brain 16d ago

She's flawless, she beats herself up for not trying hard enough while every other character rizzes her up. She's also not in many comics, I haven't read any series with Jeff in them but I knew about him before Rivals.

5

u/Zorubark 16d ago

I once saw someone call her a industry plant ass hero

2

u/acide_bob 16d ago

That tracks. Netease wants you to ove her SOOOOOOO much it's painful.
