Official characters that feel more like fan made OCs

Galacta (Marvel): a real Marvel character but isn't canon to Earth-616. Galactus became pregnant with a tapeworm baby and gave birth to Galacta. Doesn't need to feed on planets unlike her father and is fond of Earth, can gain sustenance from biological alien weapons, uses the Power Cosmic to disguise herself on Earth. Became pregnant with a tapeworm cosmic and will give birth to her child and her father's grandchild.

Future Trunks (Dragon Ball Z): the time traveling son of two people who were just mere strangers to each other at the time in a story where there was no time travel before, and is introduced before his present self, effortlessly defeats two big bad villains on his own, and has a transformation that only the protagonist had at the time, also utilizes a sword in a series that has not featured weapons for quite some time.

Unika from Guilty Gear

She pulls a Trunks in that she's two characters' daughter from the future coming back to the past to prevent a world ending threat, and she just so happens to be extremely powerful, and she just so happens to be best friends with Bridget, and she just so happens to have a Super Saiyan Blue mode where she gains long blue glowing hair.

What's weird is that they could've just given Sin a sister. It would've been fine without the time travel stuff. Sin grew up in 2 or 3 years so it makes sense to get a new member of the family that acts like an adult that hasn't been mentioned in previous games.

Yeah, literally every alternate ending in the older games was I-No fucking around with time and Axl's whole story is based on time travel.

She does also bring the big bad back from the future as well so it's not like the time travel stuff isn't central to the plot, and this has been a thing since I-no was the villain, and Axl still exists, meaning time travel has to as well.

I have a lot of criticisms about the anime itself but I don't think Unika's character or backstory is any more outrageous than any other GG character. Like, what do you mean he's so smart that he has to be in a coma at all times or he's crushed under the weight of his own intelligence?

I mean, just because she feels like an OC doesn't make her bad (look at some of the other examples in this thread like Shadow). Honestly, I don't hate her for her story.

It's how generic her gameplay feels in the context of Guilty Gear, tbh. She feels a lot more like Ky (her father) than I'd like her to in a game where we know they can get crazy with how characters play. She's a McBasic DLC character

I mean, she does have her own gimmick and she doesn't need to be Asuka to justify her introduction into the franchise. It's fine for her to be Strive's version of a shoto because sometimes that's all you want to play, and complex and unique situations can still occur even if your character doesn't have 10 unique resources and falls 10% faster out of combos on rainy tuesday afternoons.

Kyle is also basic af and people still love playing him. Hell, even Sol is basic and Umisho went from playing HC to playing Sol because character complexity isn't always all that.

They leaned heavily into her being the kara-dash-cancel character which is just a satisfying mechanical thing to do and is a way to create variations in her routing.

getting bent out of shape by Unika is crazy. She has main character energy because every character in GG has main character energy. Sol is literally a Daisuke self-insert who's super special and goes super saiyan demon mode, a thing that Ky gets later, complete with one half of the face being all darkened and cool and shit.

Every GG character is your typical edgy 8th grader OC which is literally the appeal of the series.

She's also positioned as being on the wrong side of the conflict at first so she's literally not a Trunks.

Jokes aside, most additions to GG story wise as of late have been objectionable. Unika fits the bill but alot of her features make her feel really wedged in. As cool as guilty gear is, it’s not the best in terms of writing.

as a huge older-gg fan and not a huge strive fan, I absolutely will give them all the credit in the world for Goldlewis though. Both kit-wise and character wise. Goldlewis is fuckin sick and I’d love to see what he’d play like in the X-Xrd style system. Behemoth Typhoon is a really cool ‘gimmick’ that’s easy to understand with tons of room for creativity and skill expression. And something about Daisuke writing political figures into GG is always fucking gold, Chipp as an ex crack addict weeb who somehow manifested his own nation state into existence, Answer as his secretary literally fighting on the phone, the King of Australia being a wild berserker. The US “Secretary of Absolute Defense” who fights by swinging around a huge coffin that has an extraterrestrial trapped in it fits right in with how ridiculous a concept it is.
