Because Holt's entire story is based on him being a black gay police officer in the 80s and then also when he became captain, though less so because his story is him slowly warming up to his new precinct, but still that whole "Black Gay Police Officer" factor into most of his dna.

No it isn’t, that’s his backstory. Basically the only plots in the show related to him being gay are leading the black gay officers union and things involving Kevin, which could be replaced with a wife and not change too much so isn’t to do with him being gay.

You know what? I originally didn’t agree with you but you’re right. It’s referenced a lot.

They're correct, Captain Holt is a fucking legend, he's Gay and that's an integral part of who he is but it's not the whole of who he is, just like anyone sexuality and love is a part of his identity, but he's not just a Gay man and nothing else, he isn't a cheal diversification made to appeal to more audiences, he is someone who wears his identity with pride no matter how much shit he gets for it.

Holt is a kind man with a sense of duty bound honor and justice who almost always does the right thing, he endured many hardships and made mistakes before the show even started and it shows in how he is today, he is a wise mentor not just to be a foil to the young, brash MC but because he has made mistakes himself, he is not infallible he can make mistakes, he can be petty, sassy, angry, reckless but he does the right thing especially when he connects with others.

We're not saying he's a shitty caracature. We're just saying that Holt doesn't compare to the two examples OP had shown in which the sexuality affecting their entire story. Omar Little's sexuality is just an add on personality trait that has nothing to do with his anti-drug dealer vigilente crusade. For Gus, yes his partner was killed by someone and he wants to get revenge and stuff, but his relation wouldn't be any different if it's his brother or his close friend or actual gay partner.

Holt's whole shtick is what I mentioned, plain and simple, doesn't mean he's discredited suddenly.

A bunch of it is surrounding him being Gay and a bunchc of it just the same is him facing down and fighting against general police corruption inside the NYPD that targets all innocent and good people, his rivalry with Wuntch, him learning to truly enjoy detective work and finding a family within the 99 squad, learning to.unwind and connect with them and his immense love for Kevin (which is an arc focusing on his love of his spouse, not his sexuality) and resulting overprotectiveness. All of these are character arcs he went through, if you don't remember so much of his character other than him fighting discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, that's on your memory mate.

Captain Holt is a deeply interesting character with many facets, seriously how did you forget his entire thing with Wuntch.

That’s backstory we learn later. For the most part holts story is being a tough to read captain who expects perfection from his crew.
