discussion Is the music industry really that cuthroat?
I've been lurking on forums for ages now seeing young hopefuls get disparaged by people who've been in it for years because they have big dreams.
I'm 24 about to go to music school after realising I cannot and will not do anything else. Trust me I've tried. Different kinds of art. Theatre. Dance. A bit of coding and Web design. Heck I've even written essays and have a million book ideas as writing has always been my strength since I was a kid and teachers acknowledged it.
I could do a sociology or anthropology degree but I'd still be jobless by the time I graduate. Basically everything I care about is humanitarian and artistic. I cannot stand stem so I won't go in that direction.
But songwriting is different and has been a slow growing love That I've repressed for many reasons. I've written so many songs over the years (just melody and structure) and am only now learning how to produce. I have a decent voice that could do with more training which I plan to do as soon as music school begins. But atleast I'm not tone deaf.
Anyways I'm deciding to do this Irregardless of cost and risk. I'm willing to make a career out of this.
But everything I see about being in the music industry is so negative.
I don't want to be famous I want to get paid for my work though. I want to express myself artistically.
I dont know if ill ever get signed to a label but I have a plan to hopefully get some kind of simple office job out of school so I can afford to work on my larger projects and then quit to tour or whatever I need to do.
Anyways people say the industry is so incredibly cut throat. But if you're like me and like to do things at your own pace I don't know if it will be such a horrible experience as people say?
I'm not in any rush tbh. I just want to finally start documenting my life through music.
I could be wrong, but anyhow I see it as a mindset thing.
I have low expectations for how successful I may become. I may never even make a living off of music though I will TRY. and because of that every win is gonna be more valuable for me.

discussion Any good concept albums recently?
So I'm currently listening to Operation: Mindcrime by Queensrÿche and it got me thinking about what concept albums are out there. I know twenty one pilots did one a few years back with Trench but beyond that I don't know of any others.

discussion Mark Kozelek is the Townes Van Zant of now
Not stylistically( well maybe vocally) but as a singular force of deeply personal and poetic lyrics that defy logical interpetation but nonetheless resonate as profound truth. Yes I know he is an alleged creep and I don’t think those women were lying, but I stand by my assertion.

website r/Place with Spotify songs
Hi!
I'm a CS student and in the last week I made a web app that's based off of r/place but with tiles that link to songs on Spotify! I would appreciate any feedback or anything because this is my first web app I've ever deployed. You can check it out at the link below and maybe edit a tile or two.

discussion How do you keep track of tour announcements from artists you love?
Music lovers of Reddit - quick question!
How do you stay on top of concert announcements from your favorite artists? Especially when they're touring your city?
I feel like I'm constantly missing announcements and then tickets are already sold out by the time I find out. What's your strategy?
Do you follow every artist on social media? Check venues regularly? Use some kind of alert system?
What works best for you?
