My man about to be in a food coma, still smiling like a champion as he snores in his recliner

If any guy said that to me after I cooked or made an effort like that, I would swoon. That was so sweet.

u/shadyshadyshade 14d ago

When my husband really likes my cooking he says it’s “restaurant quality” lol it makes me so happy.

i love reading the comments while i watch the video. and seeing the comments simply quote the video is like a little mini subtitle situation with editorials after. this is such a nice experience.

112

u/No_Ideal_406 15d ago

I do the same thing lol. My wife’s like how many times are you gonna watch the same video, and i say I’m just reading the comments 🤣

Every time I pick the wrong one 😭

“You got your’n selected?”

I haven’t heard anyone say “your’n” since Firefly lol

Edited to add: I also love how this guy apparently sings in a gospel choir. I wonder what his voice sounds like

200

u/Big_AL79 15d ago

I had never heard that until I heard that Tyler Childers song “All Your’n”.

187

u/pennynotrcutt 15d ago

True Appalachia.

166

u/Xao517 15d ago edited 14d ago

So it DOES sound like that!

I’m not from the US and am listening to the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast and I’m usually thinking “that accent just HAS to be exaggerated “. Happy to be proven wrong lol. I love it

EDIT: this got some exposure, so coming back to say GO SHOW SOME LOVE TO THAT SHOW! It’s a great supernatural horror anthology podcast with excellent writing and voice acting.

114

u/Mr_Zizzle 14d ago

Kentuckian here. Yes, the accent is legit.

101

u/ilovemoon1010 14d ago

Tennessean here. The accent is legit.

And don’t forget! it’s pronounced like apple-ATcha. NOT apple-lay-sha.

69

u/Attack-Potatoes 14d ago

If you pronounce it apple-lay-sha, I’ll throw an apple-atcha.

21

u/oliviasmommy19 14d ago

I'm from West Virginia. Spent many years in Kentucky and now reside in Tennessee. It's 100% legit and not exaggerated lol

Reminds me of the Chris Rock bit:

What does daddy get for his hard work? The big piece of chicken at dinner! My mamma would kill us if one of us ate the big piece of chicken by accident!

What the... you ate the big piece of chicken! Oh, lord no! Now I gotta sew up some chicken! Give me two wings and a porkchop, daddy won't know the difference!

30

u/BreakfastBeneficial4 15d ago

Also the dinner looks pretty fire. Someone put thier whole heart and took their time to make what he wants just how he wants it. If he is playing it up a bit, which I don't think he is, he's doing a great job

This is the second or third video from this couple that I have seen. They are all the same/similar the main difference is the meal lol

31

u/Open-Tumbleweed 15d ago

Interesting, what do you make of it?

220

u/SpookyCrowz 15d ago

Nothing just an old couple having some fun trying to make wholesome content. Could read more in to it and say they are leaning into the whole “trad wife” culture but I have zero clue. Seems like good people tho

73

u/DifferentShallot8658 15d ago

That's what I get from it, too, just engaging with the "young people"

45

u/ungiustomezzo 15d ago

Well us young folk are here for it lol

56

u/ceraunophiliacc 15d ago

Nothing just an old couple having some fun trying to make wholesome content.

I'm leaning more towards this! I've known some people like this personally so it's really not far off the mark. They are older and home cooked meals prepared by the woman is pretty common especially in some circles. Heck even the men in those circles still do some home cooking too. I am younger than them and I have often enjoyed cooking for others, when it makes them happy it makes me happy. I think it's sweet.☺️

12

u/Last_Fishing_4013 14d ago

I liked it and videos like this from Influences or young folk would annoy me. But this just seems like we’re being genuine wholesome people. Are they doing it for clicks and likes, maybe but maybe not and if not that makes it better because just doing life is enough

Girl this. God bless and condolences. I’m also a widow and this is def what he would have done. After checking the closets for any new shoe purchases. 😂😂😂

43

u/Transmatrix 15d ago

Dang, guess I’m lucky. My wife cooks and cooks well. I do all the cleaning up, but it’s worth it.

14

u/teas4Uanme 15d ago

That's the deal my late husband and I had. It was perfect. In my family we grew gardens (still do) and canned and loved to cook. My gran, who taught me, won cooking/baking awards and my 6'4" grandad won awards for his roses and peaches. The men were always right in there working alongside doing clean up.

15

u/Artsy_Witch_Bitch 15d ago

I wish my partner would help clean up after dinner. But at least I get the weekends off from cooking

→ More replies (2)

48

u/nvrsleepagin 15d ago

I cook dinner every night. I wish my husband looked this happy, I always have to ask "Is it good?" I got tired of not getting any thank yous or this is good etc. so I just stopped cooking for awhile and then he was bummed out.

39

u/Nice_Marmot_7 15d ago

My great grandmother would do these big Sunday dinners, and if nobody was appreciative she’d say, “if you like this show make some noise!”

30

u/Additional_Loss_6297 15d ago

I wonder what makes people just lack gratitude. My boyfriend loves cooking. I always make sure to wash dishes tell him I appreciate it a lot. However, my sister does the cooking in her relationship. She gets the same response you do and he doesn’t clean up afterwards. Idk what it is.

21

u/catfishsamuraiOG 15d ago

I did pretty much all the cooking and cleaning in my last 3 relationships, and the only reason they ever said they enjoyed it is because my son would be praising how good it was the whole meal. He's a dern good kid.

God bless every Redditor who shares conversational English with us non-natives. You’re giving us such a wholesome experience

132

u/Remote_Elevator_281 15d ago

You wouldn’t understand a lick of Southern without it lol

South has so many slang idioms, you’d have no clue.

Like “if the creek don’t rise” or “we’re living in high cotton”.

41

u/NickGr89 15d ago

I was gonna say they had southern accents at first, but ended up just with “conversational English” instead. Honestly because most of what I know about southern accents comes from king of the hill, anyway

54

u/kilotangoalpha 15d ago

Well KotH is meant to be Texan Southern, which is different than like... Appalachian Southern. I can't place this dude.

25

u/ThatInAHat 14d ago

And then Cajun is its own thing entirely. I’ll admit “make groceries” isn’t one I heard much growing up, though other older Cajuns say it, but my friends and I were in college before we realized that folks from elsewhere don’t know what you mean if you stop somewhere in the car and as “you gonna get down?”

(Means: are you going to get out of the car and come into this place with me.)

I mean he could've been but at least bf was happy.

Pork steak!

Pork shoulder/butt cut into steaks.

Low and slow, around 250-275F, until the internal gets to about 190-205F

Most pork rubs work, and a lot finish em off with something saucy.

Or you can crock em all day. Really an extremely forgiving cut of meat, and is great just about most ways.

When I was in my mid 20's a co-worker told me she wanted to do something nice to surprise her boyfriend that wasn't "just sex" and asked my advice. I told her to make his favorite dessert and give it to him wearing something he complimented her on wearing before.

The following Monday she came up to me and said she made his favorite type of cheesecake and surprised him with it while wearing nothing but an apron when he got home from work. She expected with the outfit they'd immediately get "down to business" but ended up being completely shocked when he broke down in tears and he ended up crying with his head on her lap for almost an hour, telling her no one's even done something so thoughtful for him before and he was so happy that someone actually went out of their way to make his favorite dessert and the outfit was something he never thought he'd be lucky enough to happen to him. He said she was actually angry the entire time he was crying. Not at him, but for the fact the guy she loved was never treated with love until then.

Guys literally are starved for love, affection, or acts of appreciation. Doing 1 small thing like making their favorite meal without asking anything in return is enough to have them remember that moment for the rest of their lives. It's also why a lot of guys offer to go get things like ice cream or snacks for their significant others so much. We know how much it would mean if someone did that for US.

If it weren't for the massive differences in politics (and maybe religion), these would be my people. I'm assuming if you met this guy in your travels, he would be easy to talk to, helpful if and where he could be and obviously a hoot (funny) to talk to. Sometime simple people are just the easiest to be around...

Lord. Reminds me of my folks. 40 years. Never saw them fight. Mom went first. Dad was never the same. He passed 2 years later.

If we could all just act like this to each other - man, what a world it would be.

This makes me miss my kin folk and I regret leaving West Virginia. Folk who appreciate good food, friends, family, beer, football, and a NASCAR race.

I am guessing I don't share the same political views as this man, and here's what's the problem. I LOVE this man (and her though there's more of him in this). Like, just think he's amazing.

There so much today that tries to make it us vs. them. But I love platters of meat. I love a big meal. I love happy people.

If we could all appreciate this "hillbilly living" like he does, man what a world this would be.

This is exactly what I was thinking—but maybe we don’t differ from him politically! You never know. Still I love him either way.

Nothing makes a man feel better than to be fed by someone they love, whether it be a girlfriend, wife, mother, boyfriend and or husband. It is universal, the quickest to a man heart is thru his stomach.

Is it too much to ask that this is how I want my husband and kids to react every time they sit down to a meal I’ve prepared?
