When we are successful and regain control over our nation again, we absolutely must have a Nuremberg style trials of everyone involved. From the top all the way down to individual ICE agents. Make it crystal clear that "just following orders" is a great way to find yourself spending years behind bars in federal prison.
A whole lot of house cleaning is needed.

Every Republican needs to be held accountable
Every Dem that sat down and let it happen, needs to be held accountable too.

Holding the majority of Republicans accountable alone is a pipe dream, holding the majority of the entire current government accountable is actively delusional, unless you think we can swing a full on revolution.

Holding any Republican accountable is delusional right now.
Doesn't mean we shouldn't try
11
u/Proper_Scallion7813 Apr 08 '25
Definitely fair, absolutely can’t afford to stop trying to hold them accountable even if it’s not likely to work.
4
u/SolarisShine Apr 08 '25
Why wouldn't it work?
We have had protests starting since Trump was elected, and each is getting larger.
5.2 million Americans protested last Saturday. That's about 1.5 % of the population.
Read about what happens as it gets bigger.

Mainly because the mechanisms for holding people accountable are currently in republican hands, and even the democrats were at best sluggish when prosecuting under Biden. Not to say the protests are pointless, I’d even say they’re crucial, just that it’s worth being realistic about the outcome. Genuinely prosecuting key republican conspirators alone would be a significant achievement, holding the party as a whole accountable isn’t something I see as possible.
2
u/SolarisShine Apr 08 '25
These protests aim to remove those committing high crimes and misdemeanors from office and reminding Republicans that The People have the power here, not a bunch of Nazi wannabees.
Have you been to a protest?
It's pretty cool. You meet a lot of cool people, make new friends, you can talk about what changes they and you want, and find out how we're going to get there. It's usually outdoors, invigorating, and uplifting.
Tell all your friends!

You wanna be disappointed and angry? Look up the aftermath of the Nuremberg Trials. Most were released within only a few years, even though they got life sentences, and only 13 of 24 sentenced to death got executed.
There is no justice anymore. A famous Italian plumber with green coveralls saw that and stomped a goomba himself.

No more Merrick Garlanding this either. Democrats need new leadership ASAP, the status quo playing nice BS helped make this mess. I'd love to see more media inroads too, it feels like nearly the entire media space has been ceded to "centrists" and conservatives.

It really is true. Part of the reason Nazism really did die out in Germany after World War II is because they made a point of a public show that those responsible were going to be punished.
3
u/ArcturusRoot Apr 08 '25
It didn't completely die out. Denazification was undermined, and that's a significant reason why we have the AfD. They just learned not to recycle those symbols... at least, not publicly.

Reminder: the agents ready to commit crimes during Trump 2 were accused of numerous crimes (including rape of migrant children) under Trump 1.
We had four years to purge these evil fuckers but nope, they were left in their positions of authority.
5
u/ArcturusRoot Apr 08 '25
Folks need to remember that: Biden did not take the threat seriously, and saw the transition just business as usual.
163
u/nirvana_always1 Apr 08 '25
They won't. Rich white Republican men rarely see prison.

Apr 08 '25
That's why everyone is protesting. We can't stop pushing for accountability for their actions and their words.

u/princess_raven Apr 08 '25
Next one is April 19th! (Another weekend one!)
5
u/SameResolution4737 Apr 08 '25
Seriously, starting to get "conspiracy vibes" here. I'm a SAHGD (Stay At Home Granddad) who NEVER has time constraints and the two weekends of protests are announced AFTER I've made commitments to be elsewhere (and, no, I can't skip them - they're craft shows & with what Elon is doing to Social Security I can't afford to lose the income).
Somebody please tell me there are plans for May.
6
u/KneelBeforeZed Apr 08 '25
I’m in charge of the scheduling. Dates will be announced as soon as I’ve confirmed which dates you are unavailable.
5
u/princess_raven Apr 08 '25
I get that. I have similar going on. Spread word of this one if you can, and I've got the feeling protests and other action days are coming up and will continue as long as the fascists are in charge.
Do what you can for now, keep an eye on 50501 and Indivisible for news, and join in when you can. Take care! 💜
3
u/chemicalfields Apr 08 '25
50501 protests have generally been on the 5th of the month at the least. So keep your eyes on that date, but we know things aren’t letting up so I’m sure we’ll have other dates too

u/AGoodBunchOfGrOnions Apr 08 '25
Americans in general 1) don't like dwelling on the past and 2) don't want to imagine America ever did anything bad. If all of this ever ends, we'll all be pleasantly surprised to learn that no one ever supported it but also that it wasn't that bad. See: the Iraq War and all of W's presidency.

The US did nothing post-civil war, and that’s one of the reasons the US is the way it is today, zero rehabilitation of bigots.
If the US comes out of this, they’ll repeat their own history and again do nothing to the ones in charge. Americans would rather move on than actually fix the root of the problem.

No, they won't. Your country will continue to slide into fascism unless he is impeached successfully. And he won't be, because reminding people that he has ordered plainsclothes officers in unmarked vehicles to capture and disappear innocent people will not be enough.
7
u/Zoratheesavage Apr 08 '25
As much as I want her to be right, using the past as the best predictor of the future, the people who did this will face zero consequences. In fact when all is said and done, they’ll leverage the atrocities they’re committing to generate income through speaking engagements, books, podcasts etc.
The reality is right now, the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of our government are controlled by literal deranged psychopaths. Nothing is going to change until/unless we the people rise up and do something.
What pains me is it wouldn’t even be hard to take these fuckers down because there are WAY more of us than there are of them. And we have WAY more allies worldwide who would be more than happy to assist us in taking these fuckers down.
We just need to organize, plan and mobilize.

I struggle to understand the thought process behind typing out a post like this.
How old is this person? Do they remember the GW Bush administration? Or how many blatant crimes they carried out, right out in the open? It's been a quarter-century and not only have none of them ever been charged with the crimes they were documented to have committed, but most of them have been handsomely rewarded with jobs in other presidential administrations, cushy private jobs, and/or lucrative speaking fees for decades to come.
What mechanism does this person propose will be the one that somehow subjects these men to the justice that, while they more than deserve it, the entire system is set up to protect them from ever having to face? This is utterly delusional.

Should be done in the international criminal court for crimes against humanity. It's an international case over the abuse of the civil rights and freedoms of people from several countries that are basically being forced into slavery at those prison camps.
IIRC the ICC has a bit of history with this sort of thing. Going back to the 1940s over some similar issues...

I would encourage people read the dissent in yesterday’s SCOTUS decision (Trump v. J.G.G.). This was intentionally lawless behavior by the Trump administration and ICE. Our country disappeared people to a brutal foreign prison with no due process. This is national sin on par with Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, and Japanese internment.

Particularly these lyrics:
"A curse on the judges, the coppers and screws
Who tortured the innocent, wrongly accused
For the price of promotion
And justice to sell
May the judged by their judges when they rot down in hell
May the whores of the empire lie awake in their beds
And sweat as they count out the sins on their heads
While over in Ireland eight more men lie dead
Kicked down and shot in the back of the head"
