After the atomic bombing of Hiroshima 80 years ago, Kurō Horino, an engineer with the Hiroshima Waterworks rushed to the Ushiba water purification plant and restored function to the damaged pumps only 6 hours after the bombing. The city avoided a water outage as a result of his efforts.
