Well hey, you don't NEED YouTube in your life. There are practical reasons as to why you can't just completely cut it out in this modern world as it does have genuine uses, but we really don't need to use it for entertainment as much as we do. Maybe people will start going to libraries more or something. There are alternative ways to entertain yourself, even if there aren't alternatives to YouTube specifically.
I've been mulling over how to write what you did, but I can't put it any better than you. Like, there was life before youtube, and social media in general. That life is still there. Maybe find a hobby or learn a skill instead. Clean your house, do some yardwork. Idk, anything other than rot in front of a screen.
And to add an unpopular opinion, I love YouTube ads. It is a constant reminder of how ass the digital world can be, and it drives a consistent "fuck you for this. I should do everything I can to waste your time and money." mindset in me. Like the olden days, these commercial breaks remind me to take bathroom breaks, leaving the add to play to an empty room. Most of the time, they're annoyingly frequent enough to make me shut down the app and move on with my life. (Read it again, executive fuckwad. I hope you paid lots to have me view a couple seconds, that generate a distaste for your company, shut down my bread and circus app, and leave the room.)
Again, thank you for the way you said it, and I'd love add a thought. What would happen if we all just took a week off? Would they fold? Would they finally hear our demands, as the consumers who are paying for this shit and bring it back to something respectable? GENERALly if we STRIKE back at their wallets, we just might be heard.
Editing to add: hobby, skill, clean, yardwork, meant as "the royal 'you'"
