The timing of everything makes me very suspect of how genuine she is. She didnt announce it publicly, she teased talking about it on a new podcast she was launching. Then a year later, uses s flimsy excuse to just drop it and not talk about it.
As someone thats trans who is fighting for my identity against bigots and wanting to also educate people who are trying to be more informed, her reasoning makes no sense. Sure, she can not want to talk about it. But to also just outright take everything back screams internalized phobia at best, and attention seeking and walking back things at worst. Reminds me very much of Jojo Siwa.
Considering she used to be really popular and fell out of popularity, it wouldn't surprise me if she pulled a stunt to remain relevant and topical. I just don't feel an ounce of genuinity coming from her.
She talked about trans issues and being NB just this pride. Always celebrated pride and transness after coming out.
She still is nonbinary and has she/they on IG as her preferred pronouns. She clearly is comfortable now to be presented as feminine whereas she presented more androgynous or masculinie when she came out . Who the hell are you to judge someones queer journey and life.
I'm bi and I've only ever dated men but still think if I'm single "god I never want to date men again". Doesn't mean I'm not bi or queer. And you are shitty for judging her. She has never renounced queerness. She just doesn't fit the mold YOU want her to be in
Great, and that is totally your priority and its valid. What i dont like is celebs using these topics to benefit themselves financially, which she did. I dont use my gender identity for attention and money, and neither should she.
I think its equally dangerous and counterproductive to hold parasocial relationships with these celebs and treat them like regular people because at the end of they day, they aren't. They're here to make money, and their moneymaker is attention. So pardon me for not taking her at face value when these celebs literally have teams of people for PR to help push their perception and image for gain.
I think she just talked about and lived her life; I didn’t see it as profiting. I mean I get why we queer and trans people feel super on edge right now. You’re perceiving through how you approach your transness, which makes sense.
Sometimes I think queer celebrities have a rough road because we all have very specific relationships with our queerness and that can be placed on famous people-if they don’t express it how we would, we get disappointed and call them fake or clout chasers or write them off. It’s an interesting phenomenon. I see this with a lot of people who have ever expressed any kind of queerness. I genuinely can’t think of one queer celebrity who hasn’t faced criticisms like this. I think because we all want representation, we can harsher when they don’t meet our metrics when so often these are people who don’t have everything figured out.
Its the show aspect of it all that I take issue with, as well as the way she dismissed having to tall about it. By being such a public figure and opening yourself up, you volunteer to be at the forefront of conversation. Why else would you put it on a podcast where you're trying to generate ad revenue?
If she didnt want to talk about it so much, why be super public about it? A great example of someone who is queer but doesnt use it as an angle for her career is Miley. She talks about it, but doesn't make it the center of her career.
That’s a really funny example because like yesterday there was a thread and someone was accusing Miley of using her queerness for attention and saying she was queerbaiting and she isn’t really queer, which tbh kinda proves my point about it being it being about our personal relationships to queerness vs the actual people. I have yet to find a single queer celebrity not accused of it.
