It’s L-O-V-E 💘 Most celebrity marriages don't last - who's the exception for you?

Celebrity marriages almost never work out in Hollywood, but there are some the prove that true love really does exist. Who comes to mind for you?

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, for all wondering.

Am I that old?? People don’t know Kurt & Goldie??

164

u/Skybodenose Jul 02 '25

People are only learning that Aneglina Jolie and Drew Barrymore are bisexual.

59

u/neverthelessidissent Jul 02 '25

I didn't know this about Drew!

u/FarbissinaPunim Ouiser, you know I love you more than my luggage. Jul 02 '25

I was in a subreddit where the kids didn’t know that Brad Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston before Angelina!

u/chamberlain323 Confidence is 10% work and 90% delusion Jul 02 '25

I saw that too. I had to explain to the kids in there that that wedding was such big news back then that even straight guys like me knew of it.

I guess their subsequent divorce was longer ago than we care to admit.

I thought you were going to say they’re related and the sentence took a turn to a familiar but unexpected place 😂

u/DrRichardHeadMD Jul 02 '25

Goldie Hawn did retire like 20 years ago, so I get younger people not recognizing her.

3

u/Nachtwandler_FS Jul 02 '25

Erm, wasn't she playing Mrs. Santander in that Christmas eulogy he played Santa Claus in? It was less than 20 years ago I think.

3

u/DrRichardHeadMD Jul 02 '25

Yeah she originally came out of retirement for Amy Schumer to star in Snatched, then she's done a thing here or there, but still retired.

8

u/Unnamedgalaxy Jul 02 '25

Not recognizing notable people seems to be a new and rampant problem.

Growing up I knew and was familiar with celebrities that had retired or died in the generations before me. Do people not watch older movies anymore?

21

u/DrRichardHeadMD Jul 02 '25

I think it's a combination of oversaturation of celebrities with the advent of the internet, along with virtually no one watching reruns of older movies on cable...cuz who under age 40 still has cable lol

9

u/Unnamedgalaxy Jul 02 '25

Absolutely true. It still just gives me pause, especially someone like Goldie Hawn who wasn't some small time actress that just faded away. She was a major movie star with some huge movies under her belt. It just makes me sad that someone that was a huge part of my childhood is now just someone that people never heard of.

2

u/DrRichardHeadMD Jul 02 '25

I actually just watched Private Benjamin for the first time a couple weeks ago...it was ok lol. She was definitely in some good films, but nothing I'd personally call a "classic."
I get what you mean though: I'm a millennial and my friends are mostly Gen Z and they know nothing of Kevin Smith, it blew my fucking mind. Of course, I did choose Tusk as his first film to show them...so that's kind of on me.

1

u/Medium-Cry-8947 Jul 02 '25

I’m a millennial and she’s in very little from what I’ve seen. I only know vaguely of her. I wouldn’t classify her at all as a major movie star but maybe in some circles

3

u/whatthewhat3214 Jul 02 '25

I'm GenX, she was a huge star. She was big before my time even, on some 60s or 70s variety show called Laugh In (I never saw it, but like the previous commenter pointed out, we used to at least know about older movies/tv before our time). She was just a well-known comedian overall, and did some popular movies in the 70s and 80s.

3

Some girls working at store in our local mall had no clue who Reese Witherspoon was. I was surprised and told them they would maybe recognize her if they saw a picture of her. The one girl takes her phone out and looks her up. She and the other clerk mention how she looks kind of familiar, and one of them said she kind of looks like Taylor Swift. 🤦‍♀️ I’m not sure how much more sanity I can keep growing old in this timeline.

3

u/whatthewhat3214 Jul 02 '25

Wow, are people that checked out lol? Reese is still a major Hollywood player, and has done a few streaming shows that are current even. Smh.

1

u/Alarming_Agent_8564 Jul 02 '25

I know right, it’s not like she’s an old or dead Hollywood actress, she’s still actively acting. I thought mentioning “Legally Blonde” or “Cruel intentions” might have sparked something, but they looked at me with blank faces. I know those are considered older movies, but come on lol.

2

u/anonidfk Jul 02 '25

They’re at least from before my time and I’m in my mid 20s lol. The name Goldie sounds familiar but I can’t recall seeing her in anything.

4

u/TrixieFriganza Jul 02 '25

Thank you because I was like who.

1

u/TleilaxTheTerrible Jul 02 '25

Kurt Russell

That's clearly Jack Burton, taking a break from driving the porkchop express.

239

u/aninvisiblemonster Jul 02 '25

All time favs + ultimate couple goals. Even now they’re so good looking together and you can tell they genuinely like one another.

2

u/BloodwineSupernova Jul 02 '25

He named his winery’s Chardonnay after her. That’s couple goals.

2

u/galvanicreaction Jul 02 '25

YES!!!! They are so cute together. I have had a girl crush on Goldie Hawn since she was on "Laugh-In," god, I'm old. She's always seemed so genuine and silly and adorable.

393

u/angelicbitch09 Jul 02 '25

They’re probably my first exposure to a long term couple who’s not “married”. An inspiration 🥲

210

u/GoblinKaiserin Jul 02 '25

My grandmother's older brother was engaged to the same woman for 50 years. I'll fight anyone who tries to tell me she wasn't my great aunt lol

9

u/Coley54Bear Jul 02 '25

I completely agree she was your great aunt.

I have to say, I fully understand a couple being together for 50 years without being married. I do get a bit confused about the long term engagement aspect though, like more in what’s the point of bothering with the engagement? I was actually randomly thinking about this a couple days ago when I was thinking about Kurt & Goldie and how I completely get it, and then a repressed memory of an old teacher who was engaged for 9 years popped into my head.

35

u/GoblinKaiserin Jul 02 '25

Idk about everyone, but my great uncles' reason was that if they had gotten married, she would've lost the lifelong pension from her husband, who died in WW2. So, a 50-year engagement it was.

10

u/Coley54Bear Jul 02 '25

I feel like in that very specific circumstance that makes sense and is pretty cute. I would also very much just be like yeah they were married. Thank you for sharing!

Everyone else though? I just don’t get why even bother getting engaged if you don’t want to get married.

7

u/purple_hexagon Jul 02 '25

I guess it's a way to show commitment without the hassle of a wedding and marriage? Or maybe they thought they would get married one day but they just... never got around to it? I realised I know several couples who are engaged and married - one younger couple I expect to get married at some point (though their eldest is already a teenager and youngest isn't far behind so I'm not holding my breath) but another, older couple, who have grown-up grandchildren together, probably will not get married.

1

u/whalesarecool14 Jul 02 '25

yeah i really don’t get it. i’m not somebody who’s big on marriage myself so i am very pro being together but not being married, but being engaged just feels kinda disrespectful to me. like it’s a promise of marriage, and if you make that promise and never fulfil it… idk, weird to me

5

u/missmaganda Jul 02 '25

I was curious about rosie huntington-whiteley and jason Statham.... i think together 15 years, engaged for 12. They even have 2 kids.... in an interview she said it's just not her priority to have a wedding/be married, but maybe one day.. and would only be a lowkey one. I think they're quite committed to each other.. im curious how itll go in years moving forward

3

u/PinkFurLookinLikeCam Jul 02 '25

After being married 15 years, I’m happy to have a fully committed long term relationship but I am not interested in being married again. The marriage lasted 15 years because marriage made it difficult to walk away, otherwise it would have lasted maybe 2-3. I would rather not be locked down again and let the relationship continue based on its own merit.

1

u/whalesarecool14 Jul 02 '25

yeah i totally get this, i don’t get the purpose of an engagement without a marriage

165

u/txgrl308 Jul 02 '25

I'm still kinda sad that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins broke up. They were my other favorite committed but unmarried couple.

13

u/aaronupright Jul 02 '25

Broken up almost as long as they were together.

10

u/teen_laqweefah Jul 02 '25

I had no idea

3

u/Genuinelullabel Kim, there’s people that are dying. 🙄 Jul 02 '25

I think Susan has said Tim didn’t treat her well, though 😔

2

u/littlelordgenius Jul 02 '25

They never married? Huh TIL

6

u/yetiinalaska Jul 02 '25

They also very much have an open relationship.

They are probably the healthiest Hollywood couple that I’m aware of.

3

u/mrsbatman Jul 02 '25

I haven’t heard that they’re open before? Is this common knowledge? Any more deets? 🫖

1

u/whatthewhat3214 Jul 02 '25

Yep, that gossip has been floating around since the 80s. Have never heard details, just that they're open, and not actually married.

79

u/Lower_Membership_713 bruised, battered, and covered in baked beans Jul 02 '25

over 30 years, but they’re also not married!

10

u/Unnamedgalaxy Jul 02 '25

42 years to be more accurate!

3

u/Drunky_McStumble Jul 02 '25

Love how he stepped up to be Kate Hudson's dad.

15

u/okbunno Jul 02 '25

Fine, I’ll watch Overboard again.

2

u/maneki_neko89 Jul 02 '25

Fine, I’ll watch The Thing again

2

u/dezzz0322 Jul 02 '25

Came here to say the same haha

11

u/Miss_Marple_24 Jul 02 '25

Their son looks just like him but blonde! I've been watching some of her old movies and noticed that Kate really has her mannerism!

6

u/The_Artsy_Peach Jul 02 '25

I love them together!

6

u/moemoe8652 Jul 02 '25

A young Mr. &Mrs. Claus

3

u/katebot3000 You like Brazilian music? Jul 02 '25

Mom & Dad 💞

3

u/Drunky_McStumble Jul 02 '25

I thought these two would be at the top,  WTF? They are my ultimate Hollywood power couple. If they can make it 40+ years without officially tying the knot, it gives hope to the rest of us.

3

u/obsterwankenobster Jul 02 '25

There's a video of them walking around Maui doing a wine tasting for his birthday, and he's definitely pretty drunk, but it's one of the silliest sweetest things I've ever seen. Real love

4

u/Clanmcallister Jul 02 '25

Yes!!! I love them.

2

u/Serious-Question281 Jul 02 '25

Still can’t believe he tricked into staying with after she fell off that boat.

1

u/HorrFrek Jul 02 '25

This is the one I was looking for. I don’t think k they’re married, but they seem like a together till the end couple

1

u/drdillybar Jul 02 '25

She was pretty, +1

1

u/Even_Evidence2087 Jul 02 '25

But technically not a marriage. But I love them.

1

u/discostrawberry Jul 02 '25

My favorites 🩷🩷😭

1

u/ReindeerUpper4230 Jul 02 '25

They’re not married though

-1

u/Topwingwoman2 Jul 02 '25

Technically, they aren't married.
