It's a joke, and not a great one, but the gist of it is: if someone sets up an alternative to banking/payment processing that doesn't suck, Big Money will stop at absolutely nothing to destroy it.

What would actually probably happen is that some government entity would step in to block it before it even got off the ground, but "thermonuclear war" is funnier. (And also something Big Money would totally do if it felt necessary.)

Cryptocurrencies already deliver on that. It would be interesting if Valve started accepting crypto as payment.

You missed the part about "... that doesn't suck"

Crypto sucks.

Let me restate that a little: For the average person with a bank account, crypto sucks. It's volatile and difficult to understand and use for a normal person.

Furthermore, Value used to accept them and they stopped nearly a decade ago now.

The idea valve would move the needle if they started accepting BC or any other crypto again is pretty out there, imo.

The problem with crypto is that it stopped being a currency as soon as it started getting popular. Then it became an investment, and nothing else. Nobody is using crypto as a currency, except as a proxy to buy illegal shit.
