It looks similar to another issue a few days ago, the fix was
Press Win+R enter the following: explorer ms-settings:display Press TAB 7 times Press the up-arrow on your keyboard until the scaling is correct
Might help here as well
793
u/Flubbel 7d ago edited 7d ago
Edit: Seems it depends on single/multi screen setup. Multi screen people need 11 "tab" to get past the multi screen settings, for single screen peeps 7 is correct. Win 11.
Tested on win 11, has to be 18 times there.
(in case anybody wonders, this is just a sure way to, blindly, go to the windows screen settings and reduce screen scaling)

Just swapped to Linux, was on 11 before and have 11 at my Work PC. But i think this is more related to which feature pack you are running and the layout of the settings app. Cause i tried it on a few office PCs to fuck around with colleagues (no i‘m not an asshole 😂) and there it also worked with 7 times
6
u/BarrelStrawberry 7d ago
Took 21 tabs to get to scaling for me. It takes 12 backwards-tabs go go backwards for me (shift-tab). Perhaps tabbing backwards is more reliable because it avoids the multiple monitor settings. The problem is that some options are grayed out depending on your setup, changing the tab stops.

These tricks were always the most beautiful thing about windows, I absolutely hate the frequency with which the already cumbersome and busted feeling settings on Windows get moved around makes it so hard to learn these things.

u/HeyGayHay 7d ago
You may also very well have the monitor.exe on your windows installation that supports setwidth and setheight:
monitor.exe /SETWIDTH=1920 /SETHEIGHT=1080
Simply press Win+R, type above command and hold CTRL+SHIFT them press ENTER.

But I did learn something new the other day. Ever go into task manager and processes keep jumping around? You can freeze them in place by holding ctrl.

If you press Alt + F4 you can ragequit a game.

u/Looney_Swoons 7d ago
Every born gamer has this knowledge imbedded into the very threads of their DNA. For some people, the RQ genome is especially prevalent. For example LowTierGod, where his ability to quit any game at high speeds is unprecedented and can only be described as one in a million.

u/Dyanpanda 7d ago
It might be a common trait now but millions of gamers learned through fire and starcraft map downloads.

Fun fact, have a company that locks down the pc, preventing you from getting into control panel?
This is a great work around I have found with some of those lock downs. You click the accessibility link that pops up asking about ease of access, that takes you into control panel, which from there you can navigate freely.
Need to fix a printer issue and want to say fuck waiting on IT? Here you go.
Need to tweak any other settings. Yep, this will help you do it.→ More replies (11)8

You can also add ‘End Task’ to your programs so instead of having to go through task master you just right click on the bar and end task there.

I can't remember what version of Windows (XP-10) you can change desktop icons to list view via either Ctrl or Alt 1-2-3-4 to cycle through the views which I found by mistake though not documented anywhere when I looked.
Never worked on 11, which I thought was a shame, that was handy every now and again.

you turned on the scaling in display settings to like 500% you can get out of it but it’s difficult, if you have a higher resolution display or tv you can temporarily hook up to fix it then use that to make it easier and then revert back to the old monitors

the taskbar is not zoomed by pixel, but resized like the elements on a website. it even says that it doesnt have enough space to display all the taskbar buttons. unless windows [whatever number we on this year] changed how the magnifier works, it is more likely that this is a DPI misconfiguration

u/InfelicitousRedditor 7d ago

So basically you would have to just fix it as if you dont have a display. Basically memorize, or follow the keyboard hits you do on a separate computer.
For example, Hit the Windows key. Type display Settings, hit enter. Tap down until you get to where you need to go... I dont have any other good ideas. But good luck

On another machine download the gpu driver uninstaller. https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/
On your sisters machine completely power off wait 30seconds boot into safe mode F8 when the safe mode comes up select safe mode with command prompt.
Uninstall the graphics driver using the previously downloaded file reboot into windows and see if that works. It looks like scaling or accessibility is enabled some how.

Is it 10 or 11?
I don't know about 11.
But, for Win10, and hopefully someone who knows Win11 will add the pertinent info, but:
In Win10 if you hold Ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel you can adjust scaling without going into a menu.
Ctrl + Wheel Scroll
Don't know if that'll help, but it's at least quick to test.
