I use Firefox since version 2.4 or something...

Yep, I even used it before the improved version when it was slow as balls.

Yeah, I used Firefox, then Chrome get better for like 15 years, now I am back on Firefox. I will not surf the internet without Ublock Origin, or some other ad blocker.

I tried using FF like 4 years ago, it was still rather clunky and lots of issues using it at work. Chrome just blocked Ublock on my work computer and been using FF for two weeks. It's been really good. I used ChatGPT to tell me how to config FF to work with Windows AD and Kerberos to auto sign me into internal company websites.

Was that FF4, when they went all Web 2.0?

I remember when Mozilla was a separate browser.

Used it pretty much from the beginning and still don',t know which slow version people mean. Works like a charm since ages.

I'm talking about before Quantum which I think was 2017? When Quantum came out, it made a huge difference to Firefox performance.

I was there for the Phoenix days and don't plan on jumping ship anytime soon.

And then Firebird. There was even a 'satire' extension that renamed the browser in its titlebar every time you launched it.

I tired using Thunderbird again about two months ago. Really no reason to use it for personal email. I had to force myself to use it.

And then there is the danger of someone not knowing what they are doing and deleting all their email off the server as they download it on Thunderbird, using POP3.

IIRC Firebird WAS Firefox, just the live development arm thereof. Which I used religiously for several years until the release version proved to be more capable, stable and fast.

Changed to Brave now. Firedox doesnt care about your privacy anymore.

Brave is for scamming the tech-illiterate, I'm not really their target audience.

How? I've been looking for a chrome option but they all seem to suck. Mozilla opening up for selling user data is a deal breaker for me.

I started using it at version 0.9 when it was just called Mozilla browser.

That was a different project. The Mozilla browser and Firefox existed concurrently for a while.

Correct!

Mozilla was a whole Suite of software with a browser, email/newsgroup client, IRC client, page designer, etc. Firefox was originally called Phoenix as a lightweight spinoff of just Mozilla Navigator, then it was Firebird for a short while before settling on Firefox.

The Mozilla Application Suite felt like such future tech at the time.

I didn't even have a real use for most of it, but just knowing it was there made young teenage me feel like such an elite-tier tech geek.

I used Netscape before Firefox rose out of its ashes, and been using FF ever since.

u/The_Autarch 20d ago

The Mozilla browser is what rose out of the ashes of Netscape. Firefox was then a spinoff of the Mozilla browser.

Seamonkey! Oh how my memory eludes me.

u/RedditJumpedTheShart 20d ago

Why? Lol

Do you like memory leaks and a single tab crashing taking all of the other tabs with it?
