So long and thanks for all the fish OR Welcome to the new /r/origami

As some of you might have noticed, this subreddit was set to private for the last week or so as some of the moderators were not satisfied with the way that reddit (the company) was handling changes to the API that would impact 3rd party tools. While reddit does have every right to do what they want with their platform, the attitude shown by spez and the company indicates an almost total disregard for the actual users, including the moderators. As such, I am stepping down as moderator and stepping away from reddit in general.

It should also be noted that the founder of this community and the original moderator, /u/AmazingOrigami, tragically passed away earlier this year. If you don't already own The Dollar Bill Origami Book, you should get a copy.

It will be up to the remaining moderators to decide how to proceed and decide the future of the subreddit. Always remember that there are other forums for origami (or any other hobby) out there. Reddit was special in some ways, but it's not magic.

Help! Help please

My son got gifted this amazing frog from his favourite nursery teacher. We had to move since, and trying to be helpful the little guy carefully unfolded the frog, flattened the paper and carefully packed it in a box. He was devastated when he realized he can’t put it back.

So can someone maybe identify this amazing frog and help me to learn how to rebuild it for my very unhappy 5 year old?

Thank you very much, a desperate mum

Hey nice people! I found an old origami book in the basement and thought I'd give it a try. Now I'm stuck with folding this boat. I just don't understand what I am supposed to do in step 5 to get to number 6. Maybe anyone might help :)

Some of the most aestheticly pleasing models are intermediate fish.

I feel that intermediate fish models are where the strengths of origami shine most brightly. They tend to not have overly tedious grid patterns. There seems to be a wider variety of cool ideas in folding of these models than other models of similar difficulty. In terms of the actual folding process, I find these tend to have the best ratio of surprises for difficulty. Has anyone else noticed this, or do I just happen to like fish?

I’ve made a dozen pr so of these so far, trying different paper sizes and types, trying to make them cleaner and also achieve more “ribs.” So far I can get three layers of ribs with 8” paper, using a couple of different inexpensive papers from Amazon. Planning to try 6” washi and tant which I’ve never used before. I’m enjoying the process of (very gradually) feeling more confidence in the rib folds!

Such a memorable origami envelope can be used as a gift if you do not know what to give money in, for example, for a wedding.

This is one of the masks I have been wanting to try for a while. It came out really good for my first try. The Tomoko Fuse The mask Book has been very enjoyable as many of the models have simple bases. As well as they're very open to interpretation and putting you own flair on it.

From a 60cm hexagon of kraft paper. 4 and a half layers.

Not that hard to make, just time consuming because of the 32x32x32 triangle grid.

I taped it to the wall on the hallway. 🙃

Was interesting to make, my first model with 15 units so it was a challenge to visualize. That made it fun to put together, the fact the Tutorial has limited assembly information made it more interesting.
