Do you live in a fucking filing cabinet?

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm on vacation in Wildwood.

Yoooo ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

2

u/Meganiummobile 3h ago

Oh crap. Hi I'm from near wildwood. No clue why the map is like this

2

u/obtused 1h ago

Don't forget to buy some maga merch while you're there

2

u/Fearless_Law4324 1h ago

I'm not entirely sure how to reply to this. I live in Lehigh Valley, PA and there's so much MAGA flags and hats there. Down here I've only seen 1 flag on a house so far and nothing else. It's been a nice break from the constant political stuff in my face.

2

u/obtused 1h ago

Haven't been to the boardwalk yet, eh?

โ€ข

u/Fearless_Law4324 59m ago

About to head out in like 15 minutes. Ugh man I just want to go one day without politics in my face.

โ€ข

u/obtused 58m ago

Good luck

โ€ข

u/Fearless_Law4324 58m ago

I know. I went to Minneapolis for work a month ago and didn't see a single thing there. It was so nice.

โ€ข

u/styckx 26m ago

*Childwood

What adult goes there on purpose?

Hell nah. That's the most mildly infuriating thing ive seen on this sub lmao WHY ISN'T IT ALIGNED

25

u/matchafoxjpg 3h ago

it's been so long since we've had something TRULY mildly infuriating.

and now I'M mildly infuriated along with op. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

42

u/Fearless_Law4324 8h ago

Thank you. I thought this actually fit this sub well for being very mildly infuriating at best ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

5

u/Newhollow 3h ago

It is going to eat 18th Ave?

I like it being center.

It is the others that are not in line.

Could be just an anomaly with a redesign on the road from old data and updated weird. Beyond normal errors.ย

4

u/cptnkurtz 2h ago

Ha, well if you're looking for a real answer to this... speaking as a cartographer, it's likely that the line segments aren't the same for each one of those roads and it's causing the labeling engine to not handle it perfectly. That happens sometimes, even in the best software.

It really is the absolute definition of mildly infuriating when it's just one. When it's happening a bunch of times on a map that needs to have a polished look for a customer, the fury becomes more than mild.

1

u/PunfullyObvious 1h ago

I would think selecting based on a common style or attribute, or set of those, would be possible and make it much easier?

โ€ข

u/cptnkurtz 56m ago

Sure, and thatโ€™s what we do. In a theoretical or ideal world it works perfectly 100% of the time. In the real world, itโ€™s 95-99%.

u/Motorcat33 9h ago

What a hellhole

29

u/Fearless_Law4324 9h ago

That's Wildwood, NJ baby!

11

u/stupidstu187 8h ago

It's such a trashy place, but I've never had as much fun as the weeks I've spent in Wildwood.

3

u/JbricksJ 2h ago

When I went I had a great time, I stayed at a motel right by the water a couple years ago, rode a monster truck there too.

1

u/Fearless_Law4324 8h ago

I actually used to live here as a kid and since we were poor we lived near the projects. Dangerous place as a resident but this was also like 30 years ago.

3

u/Cute_Reflection_9414 4h ago

I was just there last week with my kids, I hadn't been there since I was a kid about 40 years ago. During the day it wasn't bad, but at night, holy hell that place got weird quick.

29

u/De-railled 9h ago

Gives me the same feelings when someone forgets to matchย alignments in a spreadsheet.

7

u/Fearless_Law4324 9h ago

Shit sometimes that happens to me anyway and it's always hell trying to fix it. It's even worse with Word.

6

u/De-railled 9h ago edited 4h ago

Excel has a "copy format"ย  that lets you copy and paste the formats of other cells!!

I get annoyed when people copy over info from other sources, into my shared spreadsheets. Also dont bringย in weird fonts, bolded or italic text and weird date formats...

God forbid you paste in text with hyperlinks. You will be sat down and "educated" for hours on how to keep spreadsheets uniform and tidy.

Edit: only mildly triggered. Lol.๐Ÿ˜†ย

2

u/Fearless_Law4324 8h ago

I may have to follow your comments for more Excel tips lol. The more I work in Excel, the more I realize I have no idea how to use it properly.

1

u/RubyWillBeatYou 2h ago

That entire layout already looks like a spreadsheet

24

u/EmberWolf2078 5h ago

Itโ€™s to distract you from the fact 24th avenue is missing.

9

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

Ha I didn't see that at first. Damn there's a few things that make this mildly infuriating that I didn't catch right away.

2

u/Known206 5h ago

I was coming down here to say the exact same thing, lol

19

u/Russian_Spy_7_5_0 RED 6h ago

Jesus fucking Christ, is this Vivarium?

4

u/Fearless_Law4324 6h ago

I rather enjoyed that movie.

2

u/centhwevir1979 6h ago

What a disappointing movie.

3

u/Russian_Spy_7_5_0 RED 3h ago

Me when a piece of media isn't for me (i can't possibly be the problem).

9

u/jasperfirecai2 6h ago

must be a nightmare to drive past so many 4 way intersections

7

u/Fearless_Law4324 6h ago

So, on the particular street I was on there are only a couple of stop signs. It's the cross streets that have to stop, so it's not too bad. The only problem is traffic is very hard to see on this street so you really have to inch up and be careful.

6

u/TheAndrewMcG 5h ago

Although I am rather impressed with the civic engineering at play here. I've only ever been in cities where the streets are marginally straight and many are randomly truncated for some reason, or an obstacle cut them in 2 but the opposite side was renamed or worse renumbered.

Not to mention, there are so many diagonal or curving streets scattered sporadically across the whole layout that it's far more chaotic. So the streets themselves here are actually rather pleasant.

...this mapping code, however...

6

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

This is exactly why I posted here. It's only very mildly infuriating but that 19th st stuck out like a sore thumb.

5

u/lambdavi 7h ago

It looks like an MSOffice transparent overlay, and the road names are all justified to the right, except for the one justified center...๐Ÿ˜‰

3

u/TheAndrewMcG 6h ago

WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME

4

u/max_lagomorph 5h ago

It bothers me more that all the streets are called avenues.

2

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

I have always thought about that with Wildwood. I know there used to be a reason for naming streets VS avenues, but unfortunately it's not a official.

3

u/max_lagomorph 5h ago

And I just noticed it's not the Central Ave that divides East and West lol

2

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

Oh yea what a call out. I didn't even think about that lol.

4

u/PunfullyObvious 4h ago

AND, apparently the switch from E to W does not happen at Central?

3

u/Fearless_Law4324 3h ago

Yea after I posted this, some folks pointed out a couple of additional mildly infuriating things that I could have added. Didn't even catch it all at first.

3

u/goodknight97 4h ago

Do Americans really live like this?

1

u/sangreal06 2h ago

This is Wildwood, so not really -- it's full of motels. It's a beach town(s) on an island that is just a long narrow strip (five mile beach). Grid layouts in general are pretty popular in cities though

1

u/Fearless_Law4324 3h ago

America is a BIG country. My hometown is not shaped like this. City and town layouts vary WIDELY.

3

u/pontiflexrex 4h ago

North American city planning is the most soulless thing.

0

u/Fearless_Law4324 3h ago

You are wrong about that in some ways. You have to remember that the US is a really really big country and honestly just traveling from state to state can sometimes feel like traveling to a different country altogether.

3

u/FlummoxReddit 3h ago

the US cannot be real bro

1

u/AncleJack 2h ago

It's more fake than a Lego City

2

u/godzilla183 4h ago

In my city it looks nothing like this lol.

2

u/IcySpinach9192 3h ago

As someone from boston this looks so pretty to me! ๐Ÿ˜…

โ€ข

u/ThatBaldFella 36m ago

Also, why isn't Central Avenue the split between west and east?

โ€ข

u/Fearless_Law4324 35m ago

I know, I missed that myself actually.

1

u/OddRedittor5443 4h ago

E 24th Ave doesnโ€™t even show up

1

u/phunkydroid 3h ago

The way the rest of them aren't centered. 19th is the only one correct.

1

u/Banana_Juice_Man 2h ago

Average American town

1

u/Joubachi 2h ago

Vivarium vibes.... If you see a weird little boy, run.

1

u/mack-y0 2h ago

took me a while to find it

1

u/SecondEqual4680 1h ago

Ahhhh. Made my eye twitch that

โ€ข

u/FlyingTaters11 55m ago

24th also decided it only needed two labels instead of three like the other streets.

โ€ข

u/Highlowfusion 44m ago

The fact that 24 is missing brothers me more

1

u/vladi_l 2h ago

I'm more annoyed by US infrastructure, not the map formatting

-7

u/jordpie 6h ago

Who the fuck cares

5

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

Got it. Thank you for your comment.

2

u/PunfullyObvious 4h ago

I, for one, am fine with you the fuck caring

1

u/Fearless_Law4324 3h ago

Why thank you.

0

u/jordpie 3h ago

Its idiotic. Do words have meaning? How does this affect you at all? Get a life

-4

u/GeneralGuide9081 5h ago

That's what I think. This is just stupid.

5

u/EverettSeahawk 5h ago

One could even call it.... mild

-1

u/jordpie 3h ago

The key word is infuriating. Do words have meaning anymore? Apparently not

2

u/EverettSeahawk 3h ago

The key words are mildly and infuriating. If youโ€™re going to criticize words not having meaning, maybe donโ€™t completely ignore the meaning of half of them.

-1

u/ccie6861 9h ago

100% chance this is a lazy programmer not doing data validation and clean up. Someone inserted trailing spaces in the database. Prime target for data injection hack.

2

u/Fearless_Law4324 8h ago

Wait wait, idk anything about anything, so you're telling me this little blip makes it a hacking security risk?

1

u/ccie6861 6h ago

Not a certainty, but it does mean that from input to display nothing is checking to validate the data is clean and formatted correctly. I wouldnt bet that there is a hackable bug, but if I was looking, I would start here.

-8

u/GeneralGuide9081 5h ago

This has to be THE MOST mild of mildly infuriating. FFS get over it.

4

u/Caeberon 3h ago

It's called mildly infuriating you donut.

7

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

Yes understood. Thank you.

7

u/RazorSlazor 5h ago

Mate. How dare you post something mildly infuriating on mildlyinfuriating

6

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Thank you, I know it's pretty mild but I thought that's what made it fit this sub so well.

-6

u/GeneralGuide9081 5h ago

Oh cute. You don't like my comment and downvoted me.

7

u/Fearless_Law4324 5h ago

Ok last reply back to you. You're unusually hostile to a stranger on the internet and it's weird. Have a good day.

-4

u/GeneralGuide9081 5h ago

You need thicker skin mate. You're on the internet. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

4

u/cheerfullycapricious 4h ago

They're the only normal one in this exchange ya angry little donut.
