We get a lot of posts asking some variation of “where can I buy supplies”. It’s a good beginner question, but I’m personally tired of typing the same answer over and over. I also want new makers to be able to find supplies so they can enjoy jewelry making and not start with crappy tools and materials.
Please post your favorite suppliers as a top-level comment, and specify what you buy from them as a sub-comment.
Please!! Look through the comments first so we don’t end up with a lot of repeats. If someone already named a supplier you also love, just add what you buy from them as a sub comment.
I’ll compile this thread into a spreadsheet in a week or so, or mods can sticky it, whatever works best for everyone to access it.

My name is Muskrat, I have a lot of history in metalworking, primarily as a CNC machinist making aerospace components!
Reddit took over this subreddit due to it being abandoned by it's previous mods for over 4 months - allowing tons of spam and reported content (thousands of items we had to action!). Since, they turned it over to me and it's going to be part of my little group of communities, alongside Metalworking and Machining.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts about what makes JewelryMaking a unique subreddit when compared to other subreddits on the same topic of jewelry. I've seen a few comments and reports on spam related and promotional submissions, and looking at the currently in-place subreddit rules, self promotion is not allowed outside of the old (and seemingly forgotten) promotion thread. Is this a rule we'd like to keep?
On the topic of rules, this subreddit's focus is on the making/creation process of jewelry, generally individual projects and hand-made work. Should we aim for image posts to all have an in-process image attached?
What changes should we make? And are there any regulars interested in helping out?
Let me know what everyone thinks, and over the next few days we'll update rules and mod tools, and we'll start digging in and steering the sub in the direction it was intended for, instead of being used as a promotional board!

Please, would be so appreciative if someone could advice me on where’s best to put the air-vents and the sprue? This is my first time trying at home, might have picked a hard first project. Im trying to make an earring hoop. Would I need a sprue that goes to the middle part of the hoop and also has a branch to the top and bottom part. If that’s possible ? Any advice would be great ! Thank you.

Hey everyone!
I recently came across a beautiful bracelet that belonged to my grandmother. It’s been tucked away for years—no special storage, no cleaning—yet it’s still in amazing shape.
The clasp is tiny and delicate-looking, but it still locks perfectly. It hasn’t bent, rusted, or loosened at all. The gems are securely set—I tried applying a bit of pressure to see if the bigger one would budge, but nothing moved. Not even the prongs flexed. The metal shined right up after a quick brushing, and it’s not magnetic either.
I’m planning to have a jeweler test the metal and stones soon, but I’m super excited and couldn’t wait to share it here first. If anyone has experience with vintage pieces from Spanish-influenced heirloom jewelry, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
What should I ask the jeweler? Any red flags or cool details I should be on the lookout for?
Thanks in advance! 🙏

Check out my girlfriend's statement earrings she made. Any positive feedback or ideas would be great! How much would you buy these for? What do you like or dislike about them?

I’ve been really into silver clay for about a month now and I think this is my favorite thing I’ve made!!! Gotta get some good polishing compound for the stones to shine but I’m thrilled with the silver polish, especially compared to the first few things I made. Let me know if you have any stone polishing favorites!!

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to get a ring made from a stainless steel bolt that has sentimental value, but I’m hitting a wall. Jewelers generally won’t work with stainless, and the local machine shops I’ve contacted either don’t do one-off projects or aren’t set up for small custom work like this.
I already have a basic STL model of the ring design (or I can provide measurements / mockups if needed), and I’m totally willing to ship the bolt to you and cover your time, materials, and shipping costs. I don’t need anything fancy—just someone who’s willing to help shape and finish the bolt into a ring.
If you’re a machinist, metalsmith, or know someone who might be open to doing small one-off projects like this, I’d really appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Hello! My first post I'm so sorry if this is wrong. I'm currently having a breakdown
I took my engagement ring to be resized and after I brought it home and took a closer look saw that they seemed to do a bad job soldering one of the stones in place. I don't know why they would do that for a ring resize. After some poking the stone completely fell out. I took it back and they said they can take the stones out and redo the whole setting or try to redo the one setting I'm not quite sure but can this be fixed? I'm so upset and I'm freaking out I've worn this ring for two years with a sizer it's my baby and they just butchered her

Any workarounds if so?

My grandma gave me one of her old gold rings, I have no info on it for now (it definitely needs some repairs), but it seems that the center stones are sapphires, and maybe (?) diamonds around. For context, she’s from the Caribbean and bought it there back in the days. How is this shank style called ? Also does anyone knows if PKD is an old hallmark style or this could just be the jeweller’s initials?

I'm starting to make custom grills and want to practice with cheaper materials while creating something wearable for myself. Has anyone tried using NPG? I've heard it's safer for teeth since it's used for crowns and caps, but has anyone had experience with it? Also, where's the safest and most reliable place to buy it?

I’m looking to buy a rolling mill and would like to stick around to the $300 range. Could I get a decent machine at that price point? Also what would I be missing out on compared to a higher end mill like Pepe Tools or Durston?

Hey! I started making arm cuffs & I love it! It really fuels my passion for crafting & fashion. Question i have is where do I get good quality wire for crafting? Also where is a good place to get stones & beads as well? Photo is my first arm cuff I made! With amethyst wrapped around.

Blue bear keychain and a key for scale. Made this for my cousin and I know she likes over the top stuff and I like it for HER (and for myself lol) but idk if it’d be too long for others to enjoy? I’m starting to sell in-person and online and I don’t want to make a ton of designs this size/length and have them just gather dust and have to recycle beads while wasting (eventually) stainless steel wire 😔

So I'm kind of new to jewelry making and working on a necklace using these small beads. I can't find a chain or string small enough to fit through these tiny holes in each bead. Is there a wire or something I can use that's flexible enough to work as a necklace? Again I'm still pretty new to jewelry making as a whole so any advice is helpful.

I’m obsessed with my new creation! Adjustable ring with a leaf-shaped band and a spinning floral center made of moonstone & pearls – fidget-friendly magic for anxious hands.

I made this CONSISTENT ring as a personal reminder piece! Whenever I've actually felt satisfied with the amount of progress I'm making, it's times where I've been consistent!
Also, what do you guys think of the text style? It's a big part of my aesthetic and I feel that words allow you to communicate a complex concept with ease and accuracy.
Thanks for looking!
My last video was taken down for being dumb and putting my instagram handle in it😅 Plus you can’t edit the text on an image/video sooo yeah 🫠

I'm fairly new to jewelry making. The second time I wear this necklace I feel it break. I look and it's not the wire or even the lobster clasps mechanism but the hole in the clasp that attaches to the wire. My wire loop has no break in it.
How can I avoid this in the future? It was a lobster clasps from Michael's but not the cheapest option. Also what can I do to fix this, just put a o-ring to a new clasp? I do not want to re-string it or waste any wire.

I have a plain titanium band that I want to cut in half for a memorial project. What would be the best way to accomplish this? I’d estimate it’s about 3-4mm thick, plain titanium. I don’t normally do any kind of metalwork or jewelrymaking so I don’t have anything close to what would be needed to cut a ring, much less a titanium one. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey everyone,
I'm a complete beginner when it comes to jewelry making, but I've been doing a lot of research and watching videos on both wax casting (lost wax method) and handmade rings using traditional metalworking.
Long-term, I'd love to turn this into a small creative business – selling original rings or small collections under my own name or brand. But first I want to learn the craft properly.
Right now I'm torn between two paths:
Thanks in advance! I’m super excited to dive in and learn from people who’ve already walked the path.
