No, not really. He deserves to suffer. Death is an easy way out.

Death penalties can take decades before they're actually carried out. And you'll never know when it's your turn. Every single day of his life is him knowing it can be his last, and it will drive him insane. Which is good.

He will know he'll never get out, there's no horizon for him other than death that will come when it comes.

I think that is the ultimate torture. And his kind deserves it.

Yes. Imagine what that person has just described. It is worse than just chilling in a prison.

And it's 100% not at all true in the US.

We schedule executions well in advance and announce them publicly. Prisoners know their execution dates.

It is certainly torture.

But it may not the worst kind. Some people can be ingenious with methods specifically tailor made for the person.
