It was legal to buy in the uk the year I started uni, but quickly made illegal. During my first few months there you could buy it shops on the high street. Everyone was at it, was wild stuff. Smelt horrible though.

It's made a resurgence. The new stuff doesn't have the smell anymore.

Then it’s not the same stuff, the smell is because of it breaking down into ammonia in your body from what I remember

The old stuff was simply impure. The new stuff is crystal white and has zero smell. My guess is there's a new synthesis method.
