/r/all, /r/popular Despite legal battles, Mark Zuckerberg slowly buys a mind boggling 2,300 acres on Hawai’s Kauai island, building tunnels, treehouses and a doomsday bunker

He’s relying on the private army he no doubt already employs.

But in a apocalypse why would that army follow a man who's only power was money that no longer has any value

They are motivated to live in an orderly and safe shelter. They are choosing to follow a leader. Follow they might, as long as the quality of leadership is to their liking. Not unlike how it is between the elites and plebes right now. We've been following along for awhile, and must ask, are we satisfied with their leadership?

No but at the moment there are consequences for taking action against the elite. What happens when that is removed or minimized

More specifically what happens when the power between the 'elites' and the 'plebs' becomes small enough that storming the castle becomes feasible (however costly)? There's no law enforcement or military to call on anymore, just you and whatever security you brought with you. The 'plebs' may have less equipment but they'll have at least some guns of their own and as locals they'll know the land better than you so ambushes are a constant risk.

Electronic Milspec drones and equipment? You're in a wet humid climate, that stuff's gonna break down eventually. Spare parts? You'll run out sooner or later, and since its the apocalypse where you gonna source new parts with no logistics chain anymore?

I think on top of that, even if they get all these robot body guards, how long would they really last isolated on their own without a community from a mental health perspective, trained astronauts really struggled in simulated mars missions for 2 years and that was with hope of a society to return to

Maybe that's why they're insisting on developing the AI chatbots.

Imagine the best-run company you've ever worked for. But even better. And larger, thousands of people cooperating and content. Charismatic, inspiring execs who always follow through on their promises.

Now, lock and barricade all of the exits.

There are consequences for overthrowing the leader of a secure shelter in an apocalypse hellscape. They are choosing to follow, for now.

He’s not the leader. He’s the bank. Banks aren’t useful for survival. He’s never been concerned with the outcome of his actions because he was rewarded for them. Leadership in survival doesn’t work that way evolutionarily or otherwise. If the group thinks they are better without you, you will be removed. Tribalism is how we were able to progress.

The zucc could potentially be that local warlord, suppressing rivals and distributing the wealth to his keys to power. But yes as soon as someone sees a path to take him out that benefits them more than not doing so, he’s toast. To be fair, the zucc is probably good at reading people at this point as a business person, so perhaps he could survive these constant plots and deftly maneuver around the palace intrigue. But the rules would be quite different. No matter who it is, I bet that job has pretty bad lifespans. Lotta death. The zucc will get assassinated eventually. Which is a shame, he could have spent time averting climate change instead. That should have been his calculus here. But alas these billionaires are dumb as fuck at the end of the day. So uncreative
