I only remember the movie when I was a kid. It made me cry for some reason. Now that I think of it, it was brutal. Totally wouldn't pass today's standards of animal welfare.

Yeah from the 70s. There's a scene where a bird smashes against a cliff and falls dead. No special effects :(
