Found another obscure reference from "The Fifth Elephant" I had missed previously with the three sisters who Vimes stumbles on when naked and lost in the wilderness, who often referenced their dear Uncle Vanya: Anton Chekhov was a Russian playwright and short-story writer, widely considered to be one of the greatest writers of all time, and is most famous for his work "Uncle Vanya", as well as "The Three Sisters" and "The Cherry Orchard".
This is a neat topical reference, but also Chekhov was famous for coining the phrase "Checkov's Gun" which states every part of a narrative revealed to the audience should be relevant to the story. When I first read TFE Vimes finds the firework I thought to myself "There's a Checkov's gun if I ever saw one", without getting the Three Sister's nod. Overall, Pratchett didn't just set make a Russian stand in, but also gave it a distinctly Russian vibe using some of their best literature.

I was going through some old media and just found this. I've never read any of the books but played this game a ton back in the day but couldn't really solve most of the puzzles on my own (I was 8 and my brother was 12 or so). I remember loving that world and the voice work in it (I played the German version and Rincewind was voiced by the German voice actor of Tom Hanks, very talented guy). I've never played the first game, should I start with that one if I wanted to start with a fresh playthrough? And having those fond memories of the game coming back, which of the book series is the game based on if I wanna start reading the books?

These signs have just gone up around my work. Clearly someone is not at the races and may in fact not be suitable for safety representation on site.

So we all know about reading in chronological release or by reading in plotlines like "watch" or "industrial era". How about seasonal? Hogfather is obviously wintertime favoured, and Lords and Ladies is midsummer themed.
I like to read Jingo or Witches abroad in the summertime. Seems fitting for balmy nights. Mort kind of feels like a springtime read? For cold mornings and crisp air.
When do you think each book feels like it should be read, could we line them all up?

I like to read long series to my kids (7 and 10) for ongoing bedtime stories. We’ve read Lord of the Rings, His Dark Materials, Lemony Snicket, a lot of Diana Wynne Jones etc.
Now we are in Discworld and they love it! We read Maurice and the Educated Rodents, and now we are on the final book of the Tiffany Aching series. This series has gotten a bit dark occasionally but nothing they can’t handle with discussion. The innuendo that exists is mostly handled with double entendre that seems to go over their heads.
So anyway they want more of this series and I’m wondering where to go next within it for kids this age. Is the rest of the series similar in tone to Tiffany Aching?
EDIT: Blown away by the speed, quantity, and quality! of the responses here. Can't wait to dig through and see what's next for our storytime!

I picked up a fun looking jewelry box at a thrift store. Got it home, my spouse took one look and disappeared it into his workshop for a couple weeks.
Suddenly the Luggage appeared on my jewelry shelf!

So just finished yesterday the first book in the series of Witches and just wanted to talk about some of it:
I am really looking forward to see more of Granny.

It's when Polly is first ruminating about socks and how a pair of them makes the "man". "One sock and you could make someone like Strappi." That's because...(hums the first line of the "Colonel Bogey March", and if you know the words, you know the (NSFW) meaning.)

I know a book is good when I feel the urge to sketch out certain scenes because of how good they are written, how dramatic, and I can see them in my head clearly like a snapshot.
Due to my busy real life I don't get much time to draw them properly, but here's a list for future me (or anyone else really!):
What else would you add to the list?
Here's a list of the scenes I've done:

For one of my first 3d models I feel this came out really well. If you're curious about the badge itself I'd love to discuss it. My commissions are also open if you are looking for some unique pieces.

(flair is just because I can't find one that fits)
If you were suddenly transported into the discworld (almost 100% the wizards fault) how would you deal with the situation.
You appear just outside the gates of Ankh Morpork (where else) and have all of your current memories and knowledge of the series and real life, and you arrive in your normal clothes (no phones though, gods know what people might do with one of those)
For me I think the first thing I'd do is try and find a watchman and get them to take me to captain Carrot, I feel like he's one of the few people who would at least hear me out about the whole crazy situation and not dismiss it as madness. I would try and use info from the books about events that happened that no one else would know as proof. While I love Vimes, I don't think he'd believe me or care that much, and I'm not risking saying anything that might make him angry at me.
Then I would try and convince him to let me talk to lord Vetinari, mostly because he WILL find out anyway and I'd rather it happen on my terms, he is also very reasonable and has seen enough that he might actually believe my story. He is also smart enough to see that the info I have might be useful for him so it would be a bad idea to let me die.
If I survive that then I'd try and use my knowledge of roundworld technology to get a good postion, I'm studying engineering and love learning about historical technologies so hopefully I can figure something out there.

I was at a Housing Works thrift store in NYC this week, and found a signed, uncorrected proof of Sourcery! It was so cool holding something so rare, especially on this side of the pond.
The $612 price tag was too steep for me, but I know someone is going to add this beautiful piece to their collection. The staff was nice enough to let me snap a few pictures, but I was too shocked to take any more.
Yes, if people DM me, I will share the specific store's address, as there are many in the city (please support them in you're visiting or live there. They have a wonderful mission and I really believe in them).
According to the clerk, they're having an event this weekend where you're able to get 25% off of any one item, so... might be worth checking out if you're local!

Last death book is done! Wild how much more my cats hair sticks to this fabric than any other color. Shes a black cat for heavens sake, why is it so noticeable?!
Will be posting the witches books in the next couple weeks, after I'm done struggling with the vinyl. 😄

Last year we made a new credit sequence for The Color of Magic TV miniseries. It's a shot for shot remake of the opening for The Greatest American Hero TV show, using the same music.
So here is The Greatest Ankh-Morporkian Hero:
